Wonderful comedy. Wish this sort of stuff was still around. Thank you for posting. Brilliant.

Brilliant! side-splittingly hilarious. You can't say that of many contemporary " comedians" can you? I remember seeing this when it first showed, and 53 years later, it's still funny. What an achievement.

I gave this a thumbs-up before I had even played it, based purely on my memory, like you, when it was first shown on T.V.

This guy had so much talent, I loved watching him as a kid at the time. Good old Charlie, I bet he never did get his boomerang back did he. ❤ed The guy and he was so funny in his sketches, and I used to go as a kid to watch Charlie in pantomime in the 60's

Absolute gold - saw this Guy in Yarmouth as an 8 year old in the late 60's along with "Rubber neck" Nat Jackley, and many other of the old music hall entertainers. loved it then and still do. RIP all my humorous influences from them tha' days.

It was fab to discover this on You Tube and watch it again after so many years. It is very very funny and technically superb, being made before any computers were available for video manipulations. The simple idea of two parallel mirrors worked brilliantly.

Yes: technically well ahead of its time. I remember being impressed with it as a teenager, watching it in black & white, and it has stuck in my mind. The only surprise this time around was the shooting of the piano player mid Bobby Darren. I'd completely forgotten that. It was a long time ago, mind.

This is from when television was ENTERTAINING and artists such as Charlie had genuine talent, not like todays dross.I seem to remember two films of this, the earlier one in B & W.The BBC screened this a couple of years back and I was lucky enough to catch it on DVD. A deserved winner - RIP Charlie, thank you for your genius.

Oh what a find !!!! I remember watching this with my late Mum and Dad on the Tele when I was 11 years old. It was a unique piece of comedy as we had never seen anything like it before. It brought back memories, and a few tears as I remember that night when we laughed so much. My sympathy was for the triangle player too. Brilliant Comedy sadly long gone. However, thank goodness for the Internet.

Yes, exactly..... I was 11, too, and never forgotten it. I'd long ago give up trying to find this, but I mentioned it in conversation a few days ago and decided to look on TH-cam one more time.

Why the F**k does no British TV re-show Charlie Drake show or his shows like the worker. He was a GENIUS of his time and so much funnier than New Age so called comedians. Please TV companies take note. Although I know you will not.

    • @raymondlang
      @raymondlang 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I had to but the DVD box set of The Worker, as I knew I would never see it again aired on tv.
It's totally bonkers, that is how I remembered it, and proves the 60s was the best decade for tv here in England in every way, as well as for music.
Sadly tv land is now run by young idiots who have no idea what entertainment is.

Since this was before digital editing, it must have been a herculean feat in the cutting room. I wonder why the rows of musicians are always alternately left and right handed.
I have a vague memory that something similar occurred in "the ambush scene" in Marlon Brando's Julius Ceasar.
For my money, the best gag was the long-suffering triangle player.
    In this video, I mean.
    Not in Julius Ceasar.

One man, singing, miming instruments, and waving his hands around, in front of mirrors and using camera tricks. Somehow more entertaining and hilarious than 99% of the garbage you see on TV nowadays
