- Define the objective of your research - Make sure the interviewee agrees to be recorded - Ask open-ended questions so you don’t condition the type of responses you get - Group your questions by level of specificity (layers of specificity or t-shirts ;) ) - Ask a “catch all question” at the end to see if there’s any extra info they’d like to share - Ask if they have questions for you. It’s just nice too do after they’ve given you their time. Don’t take off your clothes in front of the interviewees! Lol unless you have a lot of extra t-shirts underneath
Thank you so much for this. This is often missing information when UX is taught -- all the emphasis is on the screener. I love you clothing / layers analogy - it is a great way to set up the user interview in a way that is conforting to the user.
Normally I'm just a lurker, but omg was this video helpful. I'm actually currently in the middle of a bootcamp and the research & interview phase is still quite murky for me. Explaining the way you ask questions in progressively deeper levels makes so much more sense. A video on how you analyze research and use that for ideation would also be super awesome if it's as clear-cut as this vid. Nice work.
Solid tutorial guide. Sometime in the future, I'm gonna work on some usability testing for a personal project. Off-topic, what software do you use for these videos? I like the animation and highlights that you point out. Just wondering what tools did you use?
@@Mizko Hey Michael, I’m referring more initial meeting with stakeholders (business, clients). When i have initial meetings with stakeholder to understand their problems (user & business) often stakeholder already defined problem statement them self and already set solutions. I’m always trying to help them to ask “WHY?” before they jump to the “HOW” questions. (e.g. abstraction laddering) What kind of frameworks or methodology are you use? also what kind of questions are you ask to stakeholder to define true problem and pain points? This is always challenging for me.
Thank you Mizko, I am in the 2nd week of my bootcamp and preparing for my very first research interview and this is really helpful. Just wondering if you are going to do a video about other types of foundational research with examples in the near future? such as how to plan and write good survey questions , the process how to do competitor analysis and where can we find good data for our research etc, thank you very much
