When a behind the scenes feature is massively more interesting than the film, you have to wonder what the hell was going through the minds of the people who singed off on the script.

It’s funny that the great story telling and characterisation of JAWS was overshadowed a mechanical shark that often didn’t work properly. Nevertheless it spawned 3 sequels. Amazing.

Pt 2. After all these years I don’t think Jaws The Revenge is as horrible as people think. That reward goes to Jaws 3-thankfully the 3D gimmick saved it.
When Bruce roars like an enraged lion I thought it was awesome. Now that I’m almost 40 I still think it’s awesome even though many don’t, and we know sharks can’t roar. But like actress Lorraine Gary said, “It’s psychological.” So more likely than not the roar emitted from Bruce when he rises from the water is heard only by Ellen; psychological.
I remember years ago being asked, “How did Ellen possibly know the ending scene from Jaws 1 if she wasn’t there? And what her late husband says? Come on now!!” Well after seriously thinking about the question I said, “maybe Brody mentioned the incident in bits and pieces, because the experience obviously affected him. Talking about what happened must have been his attempt at therapy which sadly didn’t work in the end. Also, we know Ellen obviously saw “The Orca” from Jaws 1. So all of this is merely replaying again and again in her mind-memories. Hence the light/dark/faded brown of those scenes, like old pictures taken from a photo album.

@@pop-culturecinephile8144 Jaws 4 amps up the stupid and ludicrous. The first Jaws was supposed to be an homage to Herman Melville's classic novel, "Moby Dick," so a small level of monster behavior was to be attributed to the shark.
And yes, Great White sharks can grow to be as big or bigger than those depicted in the movies. 25 foot and longer Great Whites are rare these days, but they are out there.

  • @thechaz83
    @thechaz83 ปีที่แล้ว +3

If somebody, anybody can answer this question I’d really appreciate it. Jaws 4 was the first Jaws movie I ever saw, my dad introduced it to me in 1989 when I was 6. I loved it!! (Yes I was a strange child…probably why today I’m a horror writer and collector 😂) The scene I still vividly remember nearly 34 years later is the banana boat scene; 2nd is Shawn’s scene in the beginning (at 6 seeing a set of large pointy teeth leap out of dark lonely water frightened and intrigued me)….but the scene I mentioned got me bc of the notion: trapped inside the mouth of a 20ft+ shark is scary. Glad to finally learn the name of the actress who colored and birthed a nightmare for me thanks to her fine acting. These days it’s not so easy to actually contact your acting heroes, but does anyone know or can suggest ways I might reach Diane, ask for an autograph, and thank her for helping to nurture my childhood with fright…eventually becoming my life’s vocation?
    Again, thank you!!!

Thanks so much for posting this! I had never seen it before. Jaws The Revenge has always held a special place with me, primarily due to childhood nostalgia. I understand why it gets all of the hate though, ha ha. I do feel that the ending most people get to see (spoilers: where the shark randomly explodes) is way inferior to the shark getting impaled by the front of the boat. I do like that Jake lives in the more common ending but I wish they would have left the boat ramming in there.

I actuslly enjoy jaws the revenge more then part 2 which is uncommon, part 3 is wlmost conplete garbage saved by a few cool scenes and i still havent seen it in 3D nor do i want to really. The goat is the perfect first one whixh is thr best by a country mile. But then the revenge is 2nd for me because it totally does not take itseld seriously. And its fun to see the white shark in those waters. Plus i enjoy wll the actors , especially Lance Guest who I loved from halloween 2 and mario van peebles who was great in new jack city and RiP to that adorable daughter of mikes whos crazy father killed her, her mom then himself the coward goof, how could you kill your little girl who trusts you more then any man and you are supposed to protect her above all and same with your wife. And even tho she wanted a divorce life's not over these assholes around the world dont seem to understand that and live in the moment. Apparently he was a real evil sob even before murdering them. He was a bad alcoholic and very abusive to both his wife and daughter and what's sad is what you hear to often , apparently the police were called and they could not press charges as they didn't have marks on them they could see. So they failed those two as apparently they called the cops several times but he evaded capture and it likely made him very mad and knew a divorce was impending. He threatened to slice their throats and then kill himself on several occasions.. then she had her window to leave him but was afraid she would lose her part of the house property for whatever reason. And when he got home he got loaded up on booze and killed his precious daughter while she slept and then his wife as she ran down the hallway to protect her child the pos murdered her next. Then he paced around the house for 2 days telling his daughters agent he was just getting his stuff together to move out when he was walking around his house for two days with his deceased family. I only hope that she didn't suffer at all and died instantly as well as his wife. Lance who played her father in the movie was wo close and shook up terribly by the whole tragedy was very shook up and got real ckose with her while shooting he was a paul bearer at her funeral. What a damper that put on the film and the life of a 10 year old girl with so much promise teken by a selfish maniac.

Terrible movie. There is only one truly great jaws movie and that is the first one.

Gosh. The overacting everysingle of the cast was just unbelivable. Jaws "IV" was the dumbest and lazyist movie plus sequel was ever filmed.

6:11// M C mentions, 'working with beautiful people' as a reason to work this film. it cost him the chance to be on stage at the oscars to accept his award. due to he being on set at the time of the awards' // he is still kicking

He would later state that working this film gave him the paycheck to buy his mother a beautiful house, so not all was lost. Funny enough he would also say that he has never watched the film.

@@johnreidroberts2838 Sorry for the delay, but i was off on a long Victoria Day weekend.
M C is not the only actor to use the funds from JAWS4 to buy themselves a house.
The Daily Jaws interview with Lance Guest provided Lance with the same sit rep.
Lance used the money from his pay from Jaws 4 to buy his house - which he slightly showed during his interview.
myop when one movie can bring such happiness (lasting too) to more than one generation of families, that be a worthy pay to check.
I want to see a JAWS 5: the 5 Families (that kept the beaches open).
If Mrs P B can put something down, have it scripted, it would be a better ending than JAWS4.
the premise is this. Mayor V has 5 families, 4 from the island/1 from NYC/NJ mafia, that force him (it was the 1970s, when the mob ruled) to KEEP the Beaches Open.
the 4 families from the island include, the hotel owner, the shop keeper (even though he had nothing on the list from his customer), the newspaper guy, and the oldest family of the island.
The point of view is from the Mayor. scenes that had the mayor (in JAWS) in them would be re shot, but it is not a action movie like JAWS (1).
I would Cast robert shaw's son as Quint. have him repeat Quint's Speech (from the Meeting).
// I would have the movie end with the mayor watching the Orca float out to sea to hunt the shark.
then have ending credits come with the Log of 'three men went out, only 2 came back'. etc etc. //
There is a lot of buzz about the Mob these days. a lot of the gangsters that are alive have you tube channels. I figure it would be easy to cast one, or more, of them as the mob family members from NYC/NJ.
imagine the look on their faces as the guy loses his leg to the shark - that scene has to be in the movie.
then the Mob and the rest of the others at the beach, would be Mad at 'our own kids were on the beach and the shark was IS real'. lolol
Jaws 4 is just not good enough to be the end of the franchise. But another shark action movie can not replace the JAWS from SS. myop better to play it as a drama, from the Mayor's Pt of V.
Jaws: the 5 Families. // just when u thought it was safe to go on vacation.
have a great rest of May. Long Live the King!
without royalty, there be no Victoria Day long weekend. LOLO God Bless //
oh, i just watched 'something is in the water'. a shark movie. it is ok.
I see there is another shark movie, 'last breathe', coming out. looks ok. but it is no JAWS.

@@johnreidroberts2838 a lot of actors do not watch their own films. it is like a job and not a fantasy.
Ray Liotta said, he never watched 'Field of Dreams'.
after the number of movies M C has been in, he might not have time to watch them. LOLOL

The best Jaws film was the first. The sequels got progressively worse as they came out.
