Honestly Zoro’s is probably my favorite of the Funimation cast! It’s awesome how he puts something in his mouth for when Zoro does the 3 swords style! And after like 5-8 episodes Luffy’s voice started to really grow on me (he honestly sounds a lot like Chris from sonic X) I’m currently at alabasta so I can’t accurately say anything about Franky and such since I’m not up to them yet.
@@awesomeocelot7475 I understand that you haven't caught up yet. But honestly you're missing out since (no spoilers) Luffy actually has very important family that are involved in the story.

I would love to see them handle the new games going forward, too. Esp if they come out with some sort of Dragonball FighterZ sort of 2D fighting game (and please not another arena fighter namco)

I'll miss the former voice actor of Balckbeard😢 R.I.P but Chris Rager is doing an alright job but it isn't top tier like the old one but hey it is what it is. I was bummed that the English version of We Are wasn't in the 1000th episode, I really miss that song
Well this is a suprise hehe always nice to see someone defending the english dub. I know the sub actors can be awesome but the dub ones are spectacluar too and deserve love just as much.
Always nice to see respect for the One Piece dub! All acting is subjective so people will always have different opinions, but One Piece seems to have an oddly bad reputation dub wise. Which doesn't make any sense. 1. It has mostly the same cast as shows where the dub has a great reputation, like Dragonball and My Hero Academia. 2. They're still making the One Piece dub 1,000 episodes and counting! Clearly it has it's fans if Crunchyroll (formerly Funimation) keeps making it
Hey, great work man, youre right, voice artists on either side have done great work and deserve respect, plus, it gives the fan an entire new way to have fun with the series itself; but cmon dude, look, Frankys voice artist was a gift to the fans dude, the artist was brought back from playing Bon Clay to have him olay Franky cause he absolutely killed it the first time; its not a competition if both the goals are the same, but that man should not be bad mouthed. Thanks again, I'm gonna watch it in English this time.
While i usually prefer the JP VA for Luffy, Colleen still does a great job Heck, I'd argue that her war cries/battle screams are BETTER than the sub. Go watch the Dubbed version of Jet-Gattling & you'll see what i mean
Yeah, I prefer the English dub for One Piece. Admittedly, that's because I've watched over 1000 episodes in dub. But yeah, the voices for the dub are so good! Super excited for the rest of Wano! Also yes, the sub VA for Franky saying "Super" will never not make me cringe.
I don't mind the dub. Love it, even. The English VAs are great. Ian Sinclair is hilarious as Brook, Stephanie Young is a Great Robin. Her performance on Enis Lobby was peak, and I can feel a solid tug at my heart everytime I watch this scene: 6:44. The rest of the cast is solid too! Never go wrong with the VAs of HALF the Z-Fighters with special guest stars Space Dandy and Scorpion from Mortal Kombat.
I admit the subs great but ya got to give credit to the dub. people hate on it way more than they need. I admit the dub has some duds for certain characters. but there are sooo many others where they just kill it! I personally believe two things, one, the infamy of the 4kids dub chases people away from the current dub of one piece, and two they're too used to the sub that hearing any other language may not feel right to them. regardless I will always be a Dub defender. and give the credit to these great voice actors, and even those who sadly are no longer with us...
In my opinion I feel that this dubbing is underrated, it could have its defects such as ridiculous voices, overacting, or silly dialogues, but personally I like this dubbing, it is much better than the 4kids dubbing, apart from that there are actors who surpass the seiyus original, and very well dubbed scenes that surpass the Japanese. I consider the Funimation dubbing to be my favorite along with the Latin dubbing for the Netflix platform, with voices like Desiree Gonzalez as Luffy in the thriller Bark arc, Gabriel Basurto, Noe Velazquez, Georgina Sanchez, etc.
I think a lot of people that "gave the dub a chance" just checked out clips of both before deciding to go sub. I would know because I was the same for a long time. But it makes such a huge difference to give the dub a genuine chance and watch it. Voices like Usopp, Buggy, Hatchan, and Kin'emon can all seem a bit rough and/or goofy at first. And if the clip you're watching is just a one-off joke or brief scene, it can come off as "cringe". It wasn't until I was committed to watching the dub that I realized that FUNimation/Crunchyroll hires *professionals* . A voice actor can have a voice so goofy you wouldn't even expect from a Cartoon Network show, but when the scene calls for some emotion and range, they can give some shockingly good delivery. The scene in question doesn't even have to exist yet. Sabaody didn't exist when George Manley was cast as Hatchan. Dressrosa didn't exist when Robert McCollum was cast as Doflamingo.
I have watched the entire series both subbed and dubbed and it's pretty great in both versions. You're spot on the money that everyone is just as good as subbed except Franky who, while I didn't dislike the voice of in sub, is infinitely better dubbed. My only gripe is that side characters with less than 20 lines are always worse dubbed but they aren't horrible and VERY rarely take me out of the action.
Literally the only reason I’m not reacting to the dub currently is because when I started, the dub hadn’t caught up to where I was. Now it has surpassed me, and I refuse to change merely out of stubbornness. I still watch it dubbed though.
Franky sub voice is good for one piece just a different character I can’t think of one that’s perfect cause that sub voice is not franky. for lack of a better word, he’s that big cool and funny friend that clearly is egotistical over his creations
I'm personally tired of hearing Chris Sabat's voice in everything. I wish they kept Marc Diraison from the 4kids Dub. Despite the writing, he was unironically better, and that scene of him screaming at Luffy in Whiskey Peak is a meme now.
Chris is awesome but I do understand what you mean, pretty sure at one point Funimation didn't have may VA's so he was cast as a bunch of characters in everything
Theres only a few that i prefer in sub but ive always been an advocate of looking at animations and enjoying the anime, than reading the sub and having to go back and having to pause and rewind just to understand the plot. But all read some sub if theres no dub Available so all do both, im not a one version purist.
I genuinely adore the dub way more than the sub. I see clips from the sub, and all the characters (excelt Luffy and Chopper) just sound like generic anime characters. But all the dub voices are so uniquely geared towards the characters they're portraying. Robins voice is mature anf elegant, Brook is manic and insane, Franky is Bombastic and Chaddish, Usopp is nasaly and cowardly, Sanji is Weasly and snobby. In the sub they just sound like random people they picked up off the streets of Japan, ans they don't carry as much pwrsonality.
I wonder if people if people who caught up to the point where the dub is decided to change to sub to catch up to current. I was hesitant to switch to sub when caught up on mha, but when I did I thought it felt the same in dub, both are great versions.
I like both, but here’s my two cents on the Straw Hat voices I prefer: Luffy English = Luffy Sub Zoro English < Zoro sub Sanji English > Sanji sub Nami English = Nami Sub Usopp English = Usopp sub Chopper English = Chopper sub Robin English < Robin sub Franky English > Franky Sub Brook English >>>> Brook sub Jimbei English < Jimbei sub. finally. I typically prefer sub for most anime. That being said there are a handful of anime Id only watch in dub. Black Lagoon, Cowboy Bebop being examples. I only just started watching OP but with 1000+ episodes, I would get so burned out on the show with sub. Thats not to say that ones better or worse, personally they sound about the same. Luffys voice sounds similar enough, some voices are more nasally or high in JP vs English, etc. But thats not worse. They seemingly spent alot of time getting good voices for the dub. Im only 400 episodes in so I cant say if it'll sound bad later.
I feel like most sub fans go into the dub defensively, actively looking for something to dislike because they've taken up an elitist position in their minds about some vague notion of "authenticity" they don't really understand. I can't claim the authentic japanese dub is "good" because I don't speak japanese. I can't truly tell when the dialogue is stilted, phoned-in, or hammy.
