Pristine Fishing in the BWCA of Northern Minnesota

  • Pete brings the cameras on his yearly trip into the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness on the northern edge of Minnesota. Over 1 million acres in size, the Boundary Waters contains thousands of lakes full of pristine wilderness fishing. They only way to access these gems of the north is in a canoe or kayak, paddled and carried in on portage trails.
Not your normal camping trip, all food must be hung from trees to avoid bear invasions. Wolves can regularly be heard howling at night and moose and loons are common during the day. Campers and fisherman are truly at the mercy of mother nature while in these rugged woods. Weather routinely dictates the days activities through wind, rain or snow.
Every lake in the BWCA has a unique fishing opportunity. Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, Northern Pike and Lake Trout are all present in incredible numbers. Pete has set out this year to catch his first Minnesota Lake trout. Fishing lake trout in a canoe can be extra challenging as the trout go deep in July, and boat positioning in a canoe can be difficult.
Heading into an area they have never explored, Pete and his buddies learn quickly the wilderness is in charge and every fish will have to be earned.

    About Another Fishing Show:
There you were minding your own business and enjoying your warm comfortable surroundings, and somehow you ended up here watching Another Fishing Show. We know, it’s a lot to take in.
So what exactly is going on here? The truth is, Another Fishing Show is a bit of an experiment. Like a good science project, we’re trying different ideas and seeing what bubbles to the surface. We believe there is much more to fishing than just catching fish and our gut tells us we should make this our focus. We hope you agree.
We strive to tell entertaining stories about unique individuals who have a passion for fishing. We truly believe that angling is as much about people as it is about fish.
So come along as we learn what drives fishermen to go to extremes in their pursuit of the outdoor experience. Maybe we’ll even learn a little more about ourselves and why we’re so nuts about feeling a tap at the end of our line.
    Greg & Pete

If you are going to be there late may and early june.
Throw top water lurs as close to shore and brush as you can't get.
Especially where there are logs in the water.
    Tiny pop r by rebel.
Also, gets yourself a rear drag reel.
That front adjustment is a pain.
Luckily you didn't lose those big ones.

I wish I could do this but I have MS and I tire easily. When tired, I'm not so stable walking and trying to do that with a heavy pack or canoe is hard to imagine. I've been working out in the weight room for the last year and half. So I hope I can get my self to that point. I would love to fly home to Minnesota for a trip like this.

What do you do with the waste after you have gutted and cleaned the fish? I'm sure you can't just toss it in the woods as a nice way to attract critters and especially large black critters, you know the one you're trying to keep your food away from.
