I'm an independent ("Restorationist") Christian (NOT Church of Christ or Disciples). I'm personally uncomfortable with the phrase "Mary, the mother of God." I think it's confusing at best, for certainly Mary was not the mother nor genesis of God the Father nor of the Holy Spirit. If you qualify the phrase as "Mary, the mother of God the Son" then I can agree with it, as certainly Mary birthed the Incarnate Word of God into this world. I have absolutely no problem with Jesus being wholly God and wholly man, but without the qualifier I suggested, it sounds dangerously close to modalism, conflating the Father, Son and Spirit. Which of course we also don't want to do. That's just my 2¢, and I'm more than willing to discuss it if you like. (I'm not sure if I'm explaining my position well, either.)

That is a theory on why the eastern church went iconoclastic in the 8th century. Not sure it holds up tho. Strict 2C obedience shows up all over church history, unrelated to Islam.
@@erc9468 I'd say it's a mutual influence: Iconoclast Christians and Jews influenced Muslims, who in turn pressured/called out Iconic Christians as Islam spread. Nestorianism has probably one of the closest relationships of any Denomination of Christianity to Islam, as Nestorians seemed the most willing to conform to the Jizya tax and keep quiet under Islamic rule, perhaps in part as a consequence of their small numbers and also a kind of "getting back" at the Catholic/Orthodox church that cast them out
I have a genuine question for you as a Muslim. I just can't see how icons and particularly depictions of God are not violations of the second commandment. Can someone explain that to me
Yeah just look at all early churches, Catholic, Orthodox, Assyrian, Coptic, they all have statues and images of Jesus and Saints. Some protestants hate so much the symbol of the cross that they say even the cross is some kind of idol worshiping.
As a gnostic I can say there are basically two kinds us, the ones who just want to grow their own knowledge of nearly lost texts that the Church (primarily the ancient Roman Catholic Church) either killed all those who had 'forbidden' knowledge or burning the books that did, and the kind that think they're above all others and that every else is stupid, the latter not learning how to put their egos aside and try and see other peoples view
@@theregent3397 Some WERE around in the Early Church like crossing yourself which originated in the ~2nd Century, But recognizing Saints occurred in the late 900’s

Completely unrelated but.... Im sure I'm not the first person to suggest this: You should add gradient to your builds. Try mixing gray blocks like stone, stone bricks, andesite, gravel, etc. While positioning the darker grays in the bottom gradually transitioning into the light grays at the top. Just having cobblestone makes it look a bit blank in my opinion. (Maybe you were already planning on doing this? I can understand it being a pain having tried it my self. Even just gathering enough cobblestone to built something like that cathedral is already hard enough without having to smelt it to stone and finally craft it into stone bricks)

The Quran isn't inconsistent about how it views the Jesus and the Gospel. It states that the original Gospel of Jesus Christ was corrupted into what it is in the modern Bible, thus there's essentially two versions of the Gospel, one that God knows and one that mankind has come to known, and it's the same with the Torah and Psalms. When the Quran says it is building upon the previous books, it's saying that the original Torah, Psalms, and Gospels (not their modern versions) were, in fact, sent by God to man through the prophets and the Quran is the continuation of God's message, connecting Islam to the books. And when it says that there are corruptions in the books, it's referring to their modern forms. In short, it says that Jesus Christ spoke the original Gospel that the Quran is building from, but the Gospel of the time of the Quran was a corrupted version of its original. Whether you buy into that is one thing but the Quran itself is at least consistent about it.
@@Zvxers7 Jafar ibn Muhammad said “If you hear something from your brother that you reject, make an excuse for him up to seventy excuses. If you cannot do it, then say: Perhaps he has an excuse I do not know.”
There where literaly witnesses in the thousands per day confirming the gospel in the days of Jesus, and so many copies where made, that to make a revised version would be to oust your self as a liar. The Gospel as recorded by Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John are accurate. Jewish historians even confirm it by trying to deny it. To give an example, the jews say the signs of the messiah where fulfilled by the power of satan. They say it because they could not deny what he did, only attempt to deny how, as if God is less authoritive than satan on what will and won't happen. If there is a religiouse text trying to courupt the people, it would be the ones trying to chang or add onto the Gosples in the bible, like the book of mormon, and the quran.
My honest humble opinion about that is no offense but God could not foresee or stop his two original messages not getting corrupted like he couldn’t see that people would reject the original message and follow the corrupted message or that he allowed Judas on the cross and allow people to think that it was Jesus on the cross and worship him because of that

Talking about the two natures of Christ is actually so hard. On one hand there is the Nestorian problem. On the other hand, anyone who hasn't studied enough theology would simply be confused by the affirmation that God died on the cross. Because people use words in different ways, it's sometimes hard to actually figure out what someone means. Sometimes it is necessary to figure out what the core of a heresy actually is. Sometimes people believe things that logically would lead to heresy but would not deny the heresy. In some sense these need to be differentiated, because otherwise believing in any two contradictory statements would be heresy (since under the rules of logic, a contradiction proves anything). There is of course also the distinction of saying something that's heretical in ignorance vs. actually affirming the heresy (an example Gavin mentions in his book would be thanking the father for dying on the cross, a misunderstanding of saying God died on the cross.
Yes, I think it’s more of a semantics thing than a full heresy, at least as the video explains it. I do believe that Mary was the mother of Jesus, and that Jesus is God, but without full context it makes it sound as if the entire Godhead were birthed by Mary. Saying Mary, mother of Jesus, rather than Mary, mother of God immediately gives a qualifier that Mary was the mother of the Incarnation of the Godhead, not the entire Godhead. That’s the hard thing about a Trinity, you gotta be specific with your language/intentions at every turn or else everybody’s heads will spin, lol.
*Romans 10:15 - “And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”* 💖 Through the Gospel and the Gospel only we may be saved, that is why we need to share this great joy with others! ❤️🔥✝️⭐️

Are you going to make an updated video on why you are not Lutheran? I didn’t think that the video was very good. I’d more like to hear why we are wrong biblically than that we we appeal to mystery too much or that we do theology by passion. Yeah it may be frustrating with mystery but that doesn’t matter if what we are saying is correct. Also we do have a pretty complex soteriological system regarding means of grace with the sacraments and Christ redemtion and fullfilling of the law in the center. There are plenty of Lutheran books on systematic theology.
Which Lutherans? It matters greatly whether you mean Melancthonian Lutherans, ELCA Lutherans, LMCS... I grew up LCMS, and what I have seen is that any group not fastidious in guarding the gate will be overrun by thieves and wolves.
@@robertbeisert3315 By Lutheran I mean confessional Lutheran. Thsie who hold to the book of Concord. That would be like the whole ILC (international Lutheran council). Elca is just from what I’ve heard very liberal borderline apostate.
I’m a Hispanic Pentecostal. And it’s hard for us to say Mary is the Mother of God because of her veneration and of the other Marian Apparitions. She is venerated to a level that it’s looks like idolatry. The Catholic culture in Latin America is a little different from Euro-American Catholics. Edit: I changed the wording a bit because I wasn’t communicating correctly.
I'm with you on that one. Mary was absolutely blessed for what she was chosen to do and her faithfulness in that. Angels themselves recognized that. But Jesus also asked in the Book of Matthew: "Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?" Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” So, Mary matters, but not exclusively. I don't think she needs to be the recipient of prayers for intercession. Alive or dead, she's not Divine.
Well, I find using the phrase "Mary is the mother of God the Son" to be just a bit more descriptive and helpful in this case. Or at least defining that she was His human mother --- because Jesus always was and always will be ("in the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God). At the same time, getting nitpicky on terminology is a slippery slope. We don't know everything --- God and who He is, is above all human comprehension. So we just have to believe full heartedly what the Bible says even if it doesn't make sense --- and in this case it's understanding Christ being fully God and fully man and understanding the trinity.
RZ, what are your thoughts on charity and poverty? How much should one give, and is it really easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle (a small gate in Jerusalem) than a rich man to enter Heaven?
. I had struggled with this and accepted someone saying "give until it hurts" but that's unbiblical. I have to find the verse but we are not called to give away until our own lives become uncomfortable, but that there would be some equality between those who have and those who do not I have to find where it was again...
Not RZ, but from my pov you should spend until they can secure their own Wellness. Also I think it means that rich people are more prone to sin and usually gained their wealh through immoral means.
I never thought about saying Mary is the mother of God was weird. I'm catholic and they say it alot. I've always wondered about what makes different Cristian denominations different. Like we would help my anut out at her Baptist church, it was different but familiar. It's interesting and a bit confusing with all the denominations.
@Zcstarwars The way I've always heard of it is in the form of the trinity. God the father, God the son, God the holy spirit. So mother of God the son I guess.
I have a Baptist friend who thinks it's bad to say hail Mary and to say that stuff so yeah it seems like some of the deep-protestants aren't exactly keen on it. I think some people don't like it when Mary is called the mother of God because that would imply that Mary is somehow above God, even though we all know that God is on top.

You should do a video on how Talmudic Judaism is NOT the religion of the Israelites. So many Christians today believe those who practice Judaism are just Christians without Christ or the New Testament, which could not be further from the truth.

Surprising you're using Nestorianism for Islam and not Arianism. There's also a very good argument to be made that Mormonism is a gnostic religion.
Regardless, very interesting video
Yes Nestorius and Teodoret from Cyrus and from Mopsuestia did not denied that Mary is Mother of Christ but instead of caling Mary Mother of God in Jesus because God even in Human flash Has no Birth or Begining he rejected that but died in comunion with Apostolic church in conthary to that his discapules rebeld and emphazised the teachings off Ibas or Apolinary of Laodycea the semiarians but now they teach the previous Nestorian teachings.Yes itis more accurate maybe to conect theherezies of Arius -arianismandFilostorgios (anomean arianism)with islamthath was a fruit off arianism, onophistism is sometimes falsly teached among some protestant-shvankeldists or some rebelies catholic groups=some sedevacantist like the Most Holy Family Abbey those are radicals that spilt off Lefevre-Fenney suporters ,denaing or neglecting the Human but Supernatural Nature off Jesus in His Flash and teaching only about His Divinithy in Human Flash .
Mormonism is in dead like some masonary groups a sort of gnosis, manicheizm and not cristianihy and leads to mithology and buddism.
Eastern Orthodox Apostolic church leads also to pelagianism and pantheism and even, henotheism or buddism also.To pelagianism leads the Baptist Christianithy.

You did a stand up job my friend, dont worry.

Are you planning to cover the Bible translation debate, or what translation you use and why?
I really think the Muslims influenced many Christians to be iconoclasts. Seems like there wasn't a problem with icons until after they showed up.
Muslims really went all out on the 2nd commandment
Thank you for your videos! Keep up the good work!
Gnosticism seems to be growing online, especially reading lists of apocrypha as if they're trying to form a new gospel.

You really think this dude does his research?
Also he is probably busy hating on other religions to reply

Viva la virgen de Guadalupe!
For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.”
So, Mary matters, but not exclusively.
She still the mother of God, cope
Mother of Jesus. The physical form. God is the source.
I have to find the verse but we are not called to give away until our own lives become uncomfortable, but that there would be some equality between those who have and those who do not
I have to find where it was again...
Found it; 2nd cor 8, entire chapter is on it and 8:12-13 state what I mentioned above.
Not RZ, but from my pov you should spend until they can secure their own Wellness. Also I think it means that rich people are more prone to sin and usually gained their wealh through immoral means.

You should do a video on Christian universalism
