    I remember the 1st model XS1100 being raced & winning the Castrol 6 hr production race in Australia in 1978. Yours is a very nice example of a classic superbike Jon...

    Hey Jon. Im glad you took good care of that old lady xs11! those are awesome bikes. about that stumble at 3000k rpm...if that happens on different gears with different throttle positions- that means problem is in the timing not fuel delivery. Those bikes have vacuum operated timing actuators. check vacuum hose and actuator( left side engine cover). cheers V.

      Thanks for the tip! I fixed the vacuum hose going to the timing. The XS1100 is running better the more I run it. I'll still pull and clean the carbs soon.

    many people would'nt believe the difference a thourough cleaning & fresh grease can do for 40 year old low milage bearings.its definately worth the labor involved for smoothness & longevity.its coming along nice bud. im sure you'll get the bugs worked out of it soon.its all part of the game.

    I don't think I could get on with the handlebars. Mind you, the bike is stunning. Beautifully shaped fuel tank. Shaft drive is good.

    Well done Jon! Love seeing these 80’s muscle cruisers on your channel. Please share what you do to get the engine bay fins and especially the fins so clean! 40+ years of oxidation is no joke.

    Hey Jon, I really look forward to these reviews of the super 70's/80's muscle cruisers! Beautiful bike, it's same as mine, but mine is the standard model, and in '81, mine came with a fairing (Yamaha contracted Vetter), and the bags are made by some company in Canada. The H-model had a bigger gas tank than the other standard models, they were 5.3 gal. Mine is 6.3gal. You've said that your father had owned one back when you were a kid right?

    The stumble is most likely the advance mechanism sticking , or vacuum line.

    It would be great to review the 78' KZ 1000 with the 78' XS 1100E same bike year the later XS's after 78 where all detuned because of EPA.

    Good job, looks so much better and above all it working well now.
    Im using only mineral oil for my old Kawasakis engine. They stays better inside of engine, just like basic oils did 1980. Sure they goes bad condition faster and with lower miles, but its ok. Oil change too often keeps engines and My mind better condition..

    Hi John, nice bike do you still have the maxim 1100 ?? It would be nice a comparison between the 1980 and the 1982. Also it seems to me you are an awesome old school bike mechanic do you offer service to customers?? By mail kinda I send you for instance the carburators and parts to do them and you rebuilt them and charge me for the labor??

      Hi Salvador, if I still have the Maxim when I finish the XS1100 I can do a comparison. I don't do customer work at this time - not enough hours in the day.🙂

    so is this really a 79? i thought in 80 most all bikes like these another makes went to square headlights and gauges?

    • @jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538
      @jonsmotorcyclerescueandrev3538  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The first XS1100 of 1978 had the square headlight, flatter seat, different tank, etc. In 1979, Yamaha introduced the "Special" model - this bike is a 1980 XS1100 Special. The "Special" line from Yamaha was similar to Kawasaki's LTD line. They were cruisers based on the standard bikes. They were produced and sold alongside the standard models. Cheers!
