    Thanks for the thorough walk-through. My six year old cooler (Captain 240) started making an intermittent noise from the pump a week ago. Tried all the tricks to get it to shut up, tapping the hoses, laying it on it's side. It would go away for a little while then come back. Finally it was making the noise all the time and wouldn't stop. It was to the point I couldn't use the pc just because of the racket. My son said it sounded like a Geiger counter. I thought that with the age on it that it could just be at the end of it's life. The temps were a little higher than normal but more than that the pump rpms were all over the place, zeroing out at times, then jumping to 4400, and everywhere in between (it should be steady around 2200).
    I roughly followed your tutorial here. After removing the cooling plate I immediately observed a BB-sized pile of sediment on it. I didn't tear the pump down to the impeller because separating the housing seemed like it would require more force than I wanted to apply, possibly breaking it beyond repair. I wanted to see if just flushing it would do the trick. It did. There was good bit of black debris that came out. I'm highly curious to what the source of the debris was and really wanted to look at the impeller to see if it was deteriorating. I suppose the interior of the radiator or the hoses could likewise be the culprit. But I refilled it, tested it, it was quiet. So I reinstalled it and the temps and motor rpms are back to normal and it's quiet again. Hallelujah. Thanks again.

    Took about 30 minutes to do all of this, had alot of fun with it minus the solder part i hate doing it. I had debated about cutting the tubes to replace with clear aquarium tubing and putting UV coolant inside for a cool visual presentation however the pipes are very well constructed and i would hate to destroy them.
    Anyhow, worked for me. If your not confident doing it im sure your local handyman will have zero issues doing this. It wasnt hard just follow the directions.
    Pro tip, use an ice tray to seperate the screws and a magnetized screw bit so you don't have to hold them their small and will fall off very easily.

    I have this same cooler for around 7 years now. It has become quite noisy with a rattle or clicky like sound when put under load. I suspect the fluid level has dropped over time or there is sediment or something. I already replaced it with a nice air cooler, but now after seeing this I think will attempt to disassemble and refurbish it. It does seem the pump is still functioning. I just couldn't tolerate the noise that happens when the system is put under load like gaming. It is still functional and felt it would be wasteful to get rid of it. Nice video. Thank you.

    It is not correct to wash the radiator under water from the tap, as salt impurities in the water can further damage the radiator. To clean the radiator from dirt, first use distilled water with citric acid, then rinse with clean distilled water.

    Interesting, thanks for sharing. One word of caution, it's advised not to use car antifreeze, see jaytwocents. Distilled water is ok to flush with, but for the long term you want coolant which wont react to the copper, or the aluminum, or the various plastics used in the AIO. I'd recommend "XSPC XS-EC6-CL Non Conductive Coolant", found on Amazon. Non-conductive in this sense means if AIO leaks it won't conduct electricity.

    • @ItaloLeivaSomov

    Nice vid but, with all due respect, if it comes to a point where it's not working, I'm simply going to go buy another Cooler Master and just replace the one not working.
    Simple solution without any extensive maintenance like in your vid. :)
    I'm no technician or PC Builder. I'm just a Gamer who wants to turn on his PC and play games and/or surf the net. That's it.
    Even if 5 years (minimum 'cause it says it can last up to 10 years) passed and there is no more coolant or whatever, I am not going to waste my time trying to refill it where all sorts of things can go wrong.
    There is no easy or simple way to refill the Cooler Master aside from the complex demonstration you just made especially involving screws that could easily fall to the floor (and disappear) or fall into the radiator or wherever.
    If Cooler Master had a more simple way where PC users can just refill it (ie. Here is a hole to put in more liquid, and we don't need to remove the cooler from the PC or disassemble the Cooler itself), then I'd be all for it but there isn't.
    I mean I have enough to worry about simply by removing the old cooler from the CPU, then putting new thermal paste, and putting on a new cooler onto the CPU (and then re-screwing it). It was not easy for me to do it the first time (just saying).

      @Zilog I'm not doing the smart-ass commenting. Much like different power steering fluids there's different mixes inside. Same thing with oil brands. These are brand specific chemical ratings. He's using concentrated BMW coolant.. not cooling fluid. Using this will cause your hoses to eventually corrode, your little rubber seal in the motors to swell and decompose and other adverse issues if it leaks on components. (He's already commented in other replies about how his setup has leak issues when it gets warm.. which isn't normal. At all.) Which signs to me it's already falling apart. Just use pc component fluids so you don't fuck up your stuff.
      Vehicle components are made of different types of rubber, plastics, etc that PC's don't commonly use.

    So all that getting the air out was a complete waste of time LOL, because you then drained 5% of the liquid. Really ! Why would you go through all that drama ? Besides that I actually enjoyed your video and it was very educational. Thank you :-)

    sir, I have a liquid cooler with a 120mm radiator... and one day I remembered that I have a 240mm radiator... it is possible to convert my previous 120mm radiator into a 240mm radiator?

      It’s possible. But not easy with prebuilt loops.

    big facepalm, NEVER use antifreeze from a car for your CPU cooler because It most likely react and break your cooler (why anti freeze, you don't use your pc in freezing cold right?). Internal components are not the same as in a car.
    Be very careful to let your cooler motor run without liquid because it can overheat and break the motor (it's designed to run with liquid!).
    If you use tab water to flush, what is not recomanded, always flush after with demineralized water.
    Some people just should not make how to video's.

    Anyone trying to remove the copper plate on the older Cooler Master Seidon 120 will find they used 'clutch head one way screws' - This TH-camr has tips on how to remove those. /watch?v=eC4dyHchnM0&t=274s

      @@X_Hale I was looking for this comment. Most clogs/restrictions happen in the micro fins underneath the cold plate. He might have seen the screws if he would have cleaned the thermal paste off. You lost me at BMW but, after your "witch fins?" comment I am convinced you don't really know what you are doing. I am glad this worked for you, but I wouldn't recommend anyone following your advice.

    Ideal would be to put a vacuum on the radiator and suck the coolant up.

    Dear author, what about the thermal expansion of a liquid? I think you shouldn't pour so much liquid into the circuit. When heated, the water will expand and the increased pressure will push the fluid onto the system components.

    • @ecologicaltime
      @ecologicaltime  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      that is why there is an amount of water removed after its filled to allow for expansion.

      actually the water in the radiator slowly evaporates overtime, depending on how long it runs yours must be kinda old. thats what i think somebody correct me if im wrong :)

      @VR46Monster 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MultiHeadshot1 yes it has an rubber seal, it can escape from there.. ivr cleaned it completely out and filled it again... it did not help because the problem wasbin pump, ive opened the pump and changed its washers places... no easher was under the blades it was really hard to spin it.. ive seen that it can be dirty but mine after 3years wasnt.. it was just stuck. in bios it was showing even that ive got no pump. so if your liquid system does not work, it could be
      :low liquid-you will probably hear really loud spining pump maybe bubles
      :bad placement of an radiator could cause pump to pump air or it could make the pump work a lot harder than it could
      :stuck pump-you will absolutel hear this one, cause that pump just stops working after few seconds and you will see in bios that your pump does not exist
      DO NOT MAKE WATERCOOLED PC IF YOU WANT TO BE TAKING IT TO YOUR FRIENDS, they really dont like changing orientations during transport.
