  • 🎶 Pressure like a 💧💧💧 that’ll never stop 🎶 See what's "Under The Surface" for Luisa with this brand-new clip featuring the music of Disney's #Encanto. Watch the movie only in theaters now!
    Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto,” is the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The all-new original film features the voice of Stephanie Beatriz as Mirabel, an ordinary 15-year-old who’s struggling to find her place in her family. “Mirabel is a really funny, loving character who also deeply yearns for something more,” says Beatriz. “She’s also not afraid to stand up for what she knows is right-something I love and relate to very much.”

    The Madrigal family isn't just admired for their powers; Luisa's strength, Pepa's weather control, and Julieta's healing powers are useful to the community (Dolores' hearing abilities could potentially be used for rescuing or finding someone/something), while Camillo's shapeshifting and Isabella's flower conjuring uplift people's spirits and entertain them. Since Mirabel has no powers, so may be seen as not being useful or interesting to the village. You can see why Luisa feels that her power makes her who she is, not the other way around.

    I love how they made the overly strong and heroic character a female for once- usually the strong independent women are usually for humour or their the bullies to the main character. This one is actually relatable to the protective people out there- It’s refreshing. *Luisa* is my favourite :) even if I haven’t watched the movie yet.

    • @GoddoDoggo
      @GoddoDoggo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Uh... what? Mulan, Tiana, and Elsa are all the definition of "strong and independent."
      And "Strong, Independent Woman" is literally a trope.

    • @williamsapong81
      @williamsapong81 2 ปีที่แล้ว +106

      @@GoddoDoggo I think they meant it more in the “extremely physically powerful” sense. Mulan, Tiana, and Elsa are strong and well-developed, but Luisa’s just fuckin’ *built* in a way that most Disney films haven’t touched in a while. That coupled with her personality and protective instincts makes her more distinct from the previously mentioned princesses.

      This is because it portrays the strength of the Colombian peasant woman. May be you don't know but here in Colombia women use to be very strong, not only physical but mentally. Here the majority of people live in the countryside so they work harder to live. Sorry for my English 😅

      I like her because she feels more like an actual person, she’s not strong and independent because she’s a woman. She’s strong and independent because her powers more or less forced her to be. Her worth is defined by her strength and if she can’t keep up with everyone because of her strength, then what is her worth? Well at least that’s what she was asking in the song :)

    I genuinely love that they're going into how having these gifts adds stress to their lives. It's so realistic and humanizes them all so much. I love this! And it shows Mirabel that having a 'gift' isn't everything she's dreaming it to be.

    Jesus I was sobbing in the theater during this song. There are so many similarities between the Madrigals and my own family. Like Luisa, I want to protect my little sister from everything and "be of service" in the world. I know that I am exceptionally talented in many areas. I've always sought to make a difference. People around me have always had high expectations for me. But who am I if I can't shoulder it all? In my teen years, I popped. I just... crumbled. I couldn't protect my sister or contribute to others. To me, that was a failure. I've grown immensely since but this song just brought it all back. I really needed it. After the movie, I had a little heart to heart with my sister. I'm grateful to have a family like the Madrigals:)

    I really like how in the scene where Luisa is catching the falling boulders (pieces of the globe), she's constantly nudging Mirabel aside so she doesn't get hurt.
    At first it seemed like a weird choice, because Luisa seems to be nudging Mirabel in the exact places the next boulder is going to fall. But after having watched this more carefully, I think Luisa is purposely pushing Mirabel in those particular places because she knows she'll be able to catch the boulders before they hit the ground. She knows exactly where they'll fall, and is nudging her little sister in those exact spots because Luisa knows she'll be able to catch them, and any other position might be unpredictable and dangerous for Mirabel to stand in.
    These details are amazing. I can't wait to watch the full movie!

    I'm seeing everyone commenting on how relatable this is because they're the older siblings... I'm the youngest, but I relate to this, specially since my older brother is very irresponsible so our parents decided that I am in charge with being responsible. It's very hard. I feel like I never had a childhood, and I feel like Luisa, because no one understands how it feels like to be under the pressure of pleasing and helping all the time, even when you're younger than the oldest sibling.

Never forget that you aren’t alone. Im so sorry you lost your childhood, that is a devastation. You shouldn’t have this pressure, but you do. Michelle Obama was speaking once at an event for Hispanic young ladies and she said that it's a commonality for our boys to act so immature and so irresponsible for so long that even the youngest girl starts feeling like the eldest. Rayshawn and Antonio have been arrested, had four kids already, have wasted thousands of the family money... But that just means their sisters have to be stronger aunts, better caregivers, and hustle harder to make money for the family. Being a gifted kid is already hard enough. Being the family's "only hope" really reminds me of this song. God, i cry every time I hear it. *Presses replay*

      I relate to this so much -- and I'm the youngest sibling of six. My brothers were always permitted to be irresponsible, incompetent and inept -- they got every opportunity for support and benefit of the doubt. If one brother can't wash dishes properly and throws a fit every time he's asked to make it more trouble to rope him in for chores than it's worth, it's up to me to do it and do it well. If another brother doesn't know how to switch on a washing machine and the laundry piles up, well, why can't I as a woman do better? If I do nothing after working all day, I'm not being part of the family and I'm not pulling my weight. If either of them don't, they're just "keeping to themselves" and "aiming for a quiet life" or "resting after work". One of my brothers still hasn't moved out of the family home in his late twenties (and to be clear, he can more than afford to) because he's permitted to be spoiled and do nothing but his day job. I'm not sure he could iron a shirt if asked. I've been working and supporting myself the minute I could. It's a crying shame, yes, but I'm not shedding any tears. They can do something for themselves for a change.

You don’t want the responsibility of three younger siblings when your 11 years old? You would rather have none? TO BAD!” Like I absolutely love my younger siblings but I never wanted them. I didn’t want (and still don’t want) to be the back up if something happens to mum and dad. I hate having to get up and cook and clean for them and I’m sure parents get sick of it to but those aren’t my kids, they shpuldn’t be my responsibility! Aside from that this movie was amazing and the songs were incredible.

    I don’t know how it happened, but this exactly how I feel all the time. I’m the youngest of all my cousins but I bear the most. I come a very intelligent family, but they’re not so good with the common sense. They’re academics. I’m the one who learned I had to face failure, rejection, everything - all the bad. And to a degree I’m proud of it, but mostly it just feels like it’s a lot of weight on me, constantly.

    • @Goonztz
      @Goonztz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Same! I’m the youngest from a Nigerian immigrant family and there’s only respect for older siblings from parents. Once the oldest fails that weight of expectation is passed on to the next. My oldest brother dropped out of college when my mother expected us to go to schools like Harvard and Yale. I have 4 brothers and my youngest brother is special needs and the ones in between the oldest and me did not reach that unrealistic expectation either. Since they’re the oldest they can avoid taking care of the youngest while they’re not even in school. So I take care of a child who’s my brother, while balancing my rigorous school work, and helping (doing) my mom’s Masters homework during the only times I think I can relax. I go to an amazing highschool because I saw the rejection they faced when they were not enough, (rightfully so) they did bad in school. My intelligence to my mom is my gift and that’s all that matters. My intelligence and what success I can bring to her name. That’s just summed up, I wish it weren’t worse. Even when I voice my opinions and how hard my own life is, it’s dismissed because I’m the youngest so that means whatever I’m dealing with is nothing serious
