I was in the grandstands watching this. It was incredible watching! And the sound! Awesome! The Velocity Invitational is a great event, put it on your bucket list, you won't be disappointed. His last hot lap I timed it at 1:16.88.
Man those V8s were something else. We didn't know how good we had it because we were still in love with the V10s lol Also Sonoma must be scary as shit on one of those
@@zerocoolkid9757 well it's a 15 y/o car, i can imagine they are lacking parts and stuff so makes sense. they also put slicks which this car didn't have at the time. the last official race was wet as well IS THAT GLOCK IS THAT GLOCK
Those car are so interesting. The aero details of the car carcass, they almost look like an armor air something like that. They have a delicate shape, yet they look aggressive at the same time. One of my favorite eras for shure.
Nah by 2008 all the aero appendages had gotten way out of control. The sleeker designs of the early 2000s were nicer. Also the V8s could never match the glory of the V10s.
@@rgt33 2000 had the best mix of sound and beauty. In 2001 they introduced traction control which brought in that awful grinding sound like stones rolling around in a barrel. 2000 sound was much more pure and crisp.
Wow, it is too bad that Racer did not include video of the car on the front straight at full speed and max RPM! I am sure it would have been spectacular!
No question the cars are the stars in F1 ... a technological tour-de-force. As a longtime fan of F1, its a shame the racing isn't as good as IndyCar racing ... that racing is the best of any major series, ie., Nascar, F1, and Indycar.
The cars are amazing but as an F1 fan of 30 years I've got to say Indycar is just incredible with it's close racing. The cars are no joke without power steering etc. Just different beasts.
The 2008 cars were the last generation of Formula One cars that the drivers were properly excited about. All the drivers love the 2005 V10. The 2021 cars are good but just way too heavy.
It’s a serious indictment on current motorsport, that drivers today don’t get to drive cars like this in either Indycar or F1. Drivers have always got excited about driving vintage cars, and as excited as they maybe there’s always been the understanding that “Yeah this is cool, but the car I drive today does all the things this car does, but better, so I love racing what I race”. For the first time ever in motorsport, that’s not the case. F1 cars in the early to late 00s, are just far better race cars than what Indycar and F1 offer, to the point where I genuinely feel sorry for the current drivers. They transform their childhood upbringing; risk financial ruin to their family, and life and limb, only to get to the pinnacle of motorsport and be presented with overweight, halo device, hybrid powered V6s.
It's such a shame that the Ron Denis legacy of building Mclaren to what it was, was just taken away from him by shareholders. He must have annoyed a lot of people when he signed Hamilton to the team.
@JamesSeaberry no need to apologise, I was suprised how tall albon is the rest I knew were tall. None as big as Dan gurney though, 6ft 4 would really struggle in a f1 car now Justin Wilson was tallest f1 driver in recent memory the same height as Dan gurney 193cm 6ft 4.
But Ferrari F2008 Car is faster than this McLaren in 2008 season. Kimi qualifying back & storming through fields, also Ferrari developed car around Massa in 2008.

What a video!!! Need to show F1 how you do your helmet cam. Sense of speed and agility was incredible. Glad he enjoyed it. Thanks for the video
now i know what the true point of view of a f1 driver sees in his seat, they have more view ahead than i thought they did after all these years
I agree, the footage captured in this video truly shows how terrifyingly fast F1 cars are
Saw the lap live, it was crazy how Pato took this car and just dropped the hammer. He wasn’t joking.
he was still probably 2 sec off an optimal lapime but yes, impressive
@@fpupesh he was able to archived the highest speed ever marked in Sonoma.
@@zerocoolkid9757 that's brilliant but they can work on setup to make it even faster.

Go back just 1 year and you have a 10x more beautiful car. 2003-2007 cars are peak F1 looks

Christmas comes early for Pato. Awesome video!
Using a stop watch, I clocked his 2nd lap at a 1:16.69. About 1.3 seconds off the unofficial track record set by the 2016 Mercedes W07 (1:15.430).
British racing fans are soooo dam lucky to have Lewis Hamilton!
You can have him!
Would be great to see Lewis drive this at the limit again
I was there today, both my boys was covering their ears, but smiling all the way. Thanks McLaren for a wonderful day.
I was working Turn 9 that weekend. Besides being blindingly fast, the McLaren had a shrieking sound that was ear-piercing.
This car is simultaneously so hideous and yet so beautiful. But at speed, it is pure magic.
well said...
I absolutely love this onboard and the sound is so clean.
as someone with a ton of laps in my slow car at Sears, him barely lifting at 10 (if at all) is just insane :-O :-O
this is one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen
How I miss that sound, so frenetic. I love it.
One of my all time fav f1 cars.
Thank you for uploading this!
2008 cars with slicks are beasts :) i like the helmet cam
We need Pato in F1 .. his passion and excitement would be a great addition
He has to get enough points.
@@ronbelanger4113check again. He has 40 SL pts.
We'd like footage from the outside too from both him and Tony!!
Marshall, you ROCK. Gracias por tu enorme trabajo, desde Santiago de Chile! PD: Saludos al Pato!
I can't imagine doing that for 2 hrs 😮.
👍😎🏁
And the cars from the 90’s were so much more violent as evident from onboard cameras.
Those cars look like they are from the future STILL
Absolute timeless what the 2000s could achieve
Absolutely timeless, just like many things the 2000s era like techno trance and action movies🤩
Lo mejor para Pato O'Ward en su carrera como piloto! Saludos desde Argentina!
Que grande Pato! Un maestro! Saludos desde Argentina!
I wanna see Pato in f1
Thanks for getting us this great footage.

The MP4/22 is my all time fav. The 23 is a close second. Come on FIA! Bring back the V10's in smaller cars!
That's a true F1 car!!! From the best epoch, one of the most beautiful in human history!
checkout the 1991 williams fw14 , that car was advanced for its time
I love this channel.. thank you ❤️🔥🔥
I believe half of the drivers in Indycar are faster than some of the current drivers in F1 no doubt about it

is the engine detuned?? it sounded like it was running lean and low reves.
I noticed that too, it sounds more like how they had the V8’s 2009 onward
yeah one of the mechanics at the end mentions about turning the engine up because it was currently detuned
For sure
