- F1 reporter Will Buxton is a LEGO® fanatic, from his formative days building DUPLO® (which inspired his hair cut!) to the complex Technic models of the modern era. For his latest project, we challenged him to build the first ever LEGO Technic F1 car, the McLaren MCL36 2022 F1 car - here’s how he got on.

TFW Will Buxton predicted the Ferrari pitstop strategy @ 0:50. Also, Lego has moved to giving you multiple bags so each type of component is only in one bag. You can pour each bag into their own bowl and that will work - they're size-stratified too so small parts are with small parts, and large parts are with large parts. Taking a set and sorting it by color is only doing extra work to make it harder.
"Now it's your turn". Already built it. It took me a modest 12 hours over 3 days but I did it 😁
I remember thinking technic sets were incredibly difficult to build when I was younger. The bugatti ended up being my first technic set so I guess I wasn't wrong 😂
Being 40 myself and 5 years old when it came out, just hearing a Johnny #5 reference makes my day.😀

What he's saying around the 7:15 mark is wrong - the Lego version is not the 2022 McLaren F1 car, it's the generic 2022 show car F1 produced in McLaren livery.

This set probably costs more than the actual F1 car at the crazy prices Lego sets go for nowadays.
180 is a lot, but for a set this detailed and big it wasnt such a big deal.

That's a good idea with the colours in different bowls for each bag. That looks great. Cosco are selling them for 80 quid
I also started my first build during lockdown I done the Sian and Chiron then I done the McLaren F1 and have the Daytona SP3, Back to the Future and Ghostbusters sets to build plus a buck of speed champion builds complete.
Iv started mine it’s brilliant love the work Iv got the wall bracket too. So far I’m doing the second part I do the same open the stage bags and put into a bowl

I usually dump the bag and that’s it
I do dump the bag into a bowl so that no pieces find their way off the table top, but I just go one bag at a time in order like the instructions show. I don't pre-sort squat...

I got one for myself last year & I was 48 last year. I took 2 days to build it.
I think my best build is the landrover, 2 days, and it has beaten my cat in a fight (she pushed it off my desk), with minor damage (cat was fine, but 3 years later, still fears it)
I really got to know will better .😊
To finish the Build you first must complete de construction of the pieces
Correct me if I'm wrong but won't the car be base on the 2021 car rather than the 2022 car
i cannot possibly say that this was the easiest technic lego that i`ve ever built, and your very lucky that you was not there to perhaps hear all the screaming, and swearing, and that before i even built anymore of it, but then it only got worse when i built the next step, but then when you finally stop saying naughty words, and your fingers have hopefully stopped bleeding by now, the end result is one of the most incredible lego models that you can perhaps ever build, and if this is the quality of lego racing cars at the moment, then i will be beyond excited to find out what they come up with next, just please can i have a little lay down first, and you sir, are a legend when you have a lego portrait of john lennon on your shelf.

Well they hid suspension from Lego. This has Push Rod the real thing employs pull rod

Probably because McLaren is the second oldest and successful f1 team in history, which has loving fans and a great reputation

@@roadrunner6224 Wheel covers, fairings, Halo, Venturi tunnels, rear wing shape, shark fin... It's as close to a 22 model as you can get with a Lego. Considering it came out almost before the actual real car also gives it bonus points for how good it looks.

It's not a 2022 car. It has basically no technic functions.
