Saw Pato at the Indy Toronto this past weekend. I was seating infront of the Maclaren pitstop, saw him walked immediately after the race to his teammate Felix after getting out his car to congratulate him on the first podium. Solid dude!
The bromance we never knew we needed! This interview was just like a chat with an old friend, loved hearing you guys compare your racing experiences and share a few laughs!
What a great interview. As a lifelong F1 fan who was introduced to Indy through Romain's move I'm really enjoying learning about the racing and the characters. Pato seems like a fantastic dude. I'd love to see him in F1, but that would be Indy's loss.
@@rulox1672 what can I say...I LOVE PATO!!!!!!! Adrian Fernandez was my first hero in indycar. Pato has since been my new found hero. Hope to see you at the races.
Listening to them talk about F1 cars really puts into perspective how fast they are, where even an Indycar driver is blown away says everything you need to know.
Great interview Romain. Despite a tough year at Andretti internally, very happy you're still having fun in IndyCar. As for Pato, great to hear his honest answers, especially about those 15 year-old F1 V10s when the cars weighed about 40 percent less than an IndyCar, and the incredible sound... fantastic!
I’ve followed pato since before all the Red Bull, Indy lights and Japan journeys - it’s so great to see him settled at mclaren and in a winning car. interesting to see what zak is doing with so many drivers signed now…that’s my only worry for pato as just imagine how cool he and lando in f1 would be.
IndyCar has the worst marketing ever. Grosjean is actually doing what they should've been doing for a LONG time. By the way; thanks to Alonso and Grosjean IndyCar has become populair again.
True. As an European, I always thought oval races were boring until I saw Alonso debuting in the indy500 while missing the monaco GP (talking about boring races lol). Then I started following indy, and while it's true it is behind technically speaking, the racing is amazing, so much action on track.
for me mclaren is also a big factor. i follow some f1 teams on twitter and mclaren started reposting their indy stuff there, which made me take a closer look into the series. This is the first year i'm watching indy and i must say i really enjoy it so far, so thanks mclaren i guess
Two of my favorite drivers in all of racing. Talent, guts, and cool guys. Thanks r8g and Patricio O! You're both world-class competitors and athletes, obviously, but in the end you both realize you're also entertainers, and you never give fans less than 100% to give us a great show, and reveal more of yourselves than most athletes performing at your level do, sharing with us who you truly as as human beings...no fake persona bulls***. And if you see that space, you're always going to try the move, because great overtakes is what racing is all about!
Wow. I’ve always been a Herta fan, but the more you get to know so many of these guys, the more likable so many of them are. I really hope Herta makes it to F1, but I will be rooting for PatO to succeed. Seems like such an honest and humble guy.
I have been watching IndyCar regularly for the first time since Nigel Mansell came over only because of Romain Grosjean. Lifelong F1 fan. Romain is doing a great job promoting IndyCar. Better than their marketing team!

Went to my first Indycar race last weekend (Toronto). What an experience! was a fun challenge trying to get panning shots of the drivers on the back straight, while getting peppered by flying rogue tire marbles xD Really surprised by the amount of access available, especially compared to the F1 paddock.
Next year, maybe buy a less expensive grandstand seat, but spend a little more on a pitlane paddock pass. You can enter the pits during FP1, 2 and 3 and qualifying, plus you get to walk the starting grid before the race. In F1 you would have to spend at least $10K or be a celebrity for that kind of access!
F1 will never be as open as other series due to the proprietary nature of the independent constructors intellectual property - i.e. they spend millions to develop their own aero solutions to the current rule book. The F1 teams often use photographers taking pictures of the other cars in action to compare progress from one session to the next or one race weekend to the next. None of this covert activity is necessary when the aero is a spec standard to reduce costs. That's the main reason why Indycar is so competitive. The cars among all the teams are very, very similar other than damper design and setup. This makes for really close racing and more opportunities for drivers and teams to score big points.
@@buttercupstruelove340 This changed a few years ago, the FIA now requires all cars to be on display openly, so everyone can look at them(except when they have the engine cover off, or are damaged). This has stopped most of the "spy" photographers from annoying the teams, because they can freely get their shots at the start of the weekend. There are also more strict design rules, so the teams can't just copy another team, they have to show at every step how they designed their aero themselves.
Grosjean is a great driver he deserved to keep his seat in F1, Pato is the reason why I'm watching again IndyCar and hopefully we will get back a race here in his hometown Monterrey.
