I so enjoyed your videos of the lava flows and the volcanos of Iceland. I appreciate the educational bits you’ve done as well. I never knew Lava was always above ground and Magma is always underground. I was a senior in High School when Mount St Helens blew. I lived north of Everett at the time and it was a Sunday morning. I remember two or three huge deep slightly muffled explosive sounds. I didn’t immediately think of Mount St Helens though. It wasn’t until we got a call from a relative saying the mountain just blew. I remember that spring and summer was the most dreary, sunless 3 to 4 months ever and there was always a thin dusting of gray ash on every surface. The first time I traveled through from Washington to Oregon I was absolutely stunned at the huge piles and drifts of gray ash that had washed down the North fork of the Toutle river. The piles of ash that had been dredged out of the waterways was the size of a three story building and a couple football fields. For years afterward everyone and his brother seemed to be making bar soap with ash from Mount St Helens.

Hi, happy to hear you like my videos :)
and very imrpessive what you write about Mt St. Helens. I had the opportunity to visit St. Helens in summer 2022 and I was stunned by how well the impact of the eruption in 1980 was still visible today...

This is Tame compared to Hawaii A'a flows. Probably because of the higher silica concentration.
