Tomintoul, while being an important player in the blend industry, tends to run very much under the radar as a single malt producer. So it's great to get a virtual distillery tour here in this video with a particularly long look at the stills and their lyne arms. The interview with the master distiller also helps us to understand what the distillery's aims are and why they produce a particularly light, estery and fruity new make, which goes into the non-peated and peated expressions alike. I was surprised to hear that the Old Balantruan uses peated malt at 55ppm. That's a high level, even if it is the milder mainland peat that's used rather than the more medicinal peated style that comes from Islay. I'll have to give it a try. Many thanks, Ben, for the tour, the great shots of the countryside and the local town, and of course the tasting with the master distiller. These videos are always a pleasure to watch. Cheers!

I wonder if this is the mainland peated spirit that Duncan Taylor is using in their Smokin' blend?
The flavor profile fits what they are describing here, and it is even called The Gentleman's Dram.
I know it is sacrilege to most Scotch lovers, but I find that I actually prefer the character of mainland peat to Islay peat.
This is proving to be a GREAT series of videos!

Excellent interview with Robert Fleming! He shared a very interesting inside view of the whisky blender's and distiller's worlds. Good photography too, I am jealous of your journey there!

It's a bit grand to call that a "tower".

So far, I prefer the 10-year-old over the 16-year-old.
