    What does the crankshaft look like? It doesn't sound like a V12, more like a V8.
    Amazing work!

    • @brente7211
      @brente7211 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The v8 sound comes from the 90 degree cylinder block with the 120 degree throws on the crank. The right bank fires at 90 degrees and the leftbank fires 30 degrees later. It smooths out with the v12 sound once it gets wound up.

      @@brente7211 I wish he would have done a drive by with the car. That engine was a TON of work! When I first saw the video I figured he'd mounted a Jaguar XJS V12, which would have been way easier to install and put on the road. Toyota and BMW also have decent inexpensive V12's available for swaps like this.

    Such a awsome build, I'm really wanting to do the same engine build. Do you have any advice or links to information on the details of the build?

    • @105Ivan
      @105Ivan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This was inspired by Jan Baker of North Carolina build of a Ford V12. I studied all the info I could find on the web but never could get in touch with Jan.
      th-cam.com/video/YAfoe5ncm9M/w-d-xo.html.
      Start collecting small block Fords so you have enough parts to ruin some stuff. If you don't have a lathe and a mill it would be too expensive to pay someone to do all the little details. You will have enough trouble finding a machine shop willing to play along with you on a project like this. Most will just blow you out with an outrageous quote. Callies wanted $50k for a crank and Valasco did it for 4K. (Valasco has a cnc dataset for this crank already in his machine) A local shop did the line bore, cylinder sleeving and head rebuild. Anyway it was a great project that took three years to complete. The biggest hurdle is spending the time reading and researching to figure out all the stuff that most will tell you can't be done like welding cast iron. A little luck helps too.
      Have fun.

      @@105Ivan …. If you still want to get in touch with Jan Baker he lives in Glenville, Georgia not very far from my home. His number might even be in the book.
      His 552” Cleveland headed Ford V-12 is definitely an inspiration for others to build something special. You’ve got a great eye for details and it shows throughout your V-12 Mustang build.
      It’s something you can be really proud of. I can appreciate how much time and effort you put into the unique items such as the main stud girdle.
      The choice of your Classic Mustang to engineer the V-12 into must have been difficult , especially considering the amount of modifications required to get everything just right. Driving it would give a nice feeling of accomplishment.
      Jan Baker has been driving his while getting it sorted out. He put his V-12 in a custom chassis that got he got a good deal on from a chassis shop. He topped the chassis with a Ford GT 40, Mark 1 body that he fabricated.
      I would imagine his is a rush to drive with the lightweight GT 40 setup. In 2017 he dyno tested the engine after getting it sorted out with three Holley 4-V carburetors and a better cam profile. It made 872 hp @ 7200 rpms and 669 torque @ 6000 rpms. Those canted valve Cleveland heads do very well at high rpms. They ran the engine on the dyno out to 8000 rpms and it was still making 811 horsepower.
      Not too shabby 🏁😉.

      I tried to ignore the cost but I did almost all the work myself so labor was sort of free. The only cost was parts. I think ballpark around $12K. No gt40's for me, I could probably get into it but I would have trouble getting back out.

    • @105Ivan
      @105Ivan  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      V12 is alive and well after 1 summer of driving to car shows and just cruising around. So far so good. Winter updates will be fixing my cobbled together oil pan that has some leaks around the corners of the stud girdle and I'm changing out the stock aluminum small block bellhousing for a steel one. Of course on a ford it's not that easy requiring a different flywheel and clutch setup.

    How did you work out the firing order?

    • @brente7211
      @brente7211 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Because of the 90 degree bank angle and the 120 degree crank the right bank fires at 90 degrees and the left fires 30 degrees later. Thats why is doesnt have the Ferrari sound. The firing order is 1,12,5,8,3,10,6,7,2,11,4,9. I used that order so as not to load any one main journal with two consecutive pulses.
