@quadruple treble 1888 It may or may not improve performance. That depends on the demands of the engine. It will allow more fuel, though the effect at full throttle is not usually much and that's where most people are looking when they are trying to find max power.

It changes the mixture from about 1/4-3/4 throttle most noticeably. Raising adds more fuel, lowering cuts back fuel delivery. It can affect more or less throttle than that, but it's most noticeable in that range.
Thank you for this! As a complete noob with these kind of things I took my carb apart today after getting a 2006 moped that ran bad and died after running it for a while and especially going on fourth gear I thought I'd give the carb a cleaning, but when putting the throttle together and thinking I had it put together right and then starting it it reved like crazy at full exhaust and I turned it off immediatently, I should have watched this first as it perhaps had to do with what you mention in the end with the wire, I tried turning the throttle grip with the spring and needle unscrewed from the carb and it goes back into position when letting go of the grip but once I put it down in the carb and screw the top on and try to turn the grip it wont return to position, hmm I need to try again tomorrow and do all the steps and hopefully I will get it back again.
Different needles would have different diameters and/or tapers and/or lengths. Thinner and shorter needles will allow more fuel flow. Thicker and longer needles allow less fuel flow. The way different needles are tapered helps to control how much fuel they are delivering at certain heights (throttle positions).
Love your videos and they are always a huge help. I am having an issue where my 1998 yamaha superjog 90cc (horizontal minarelli) will start and idle fine ( revs up fine when NOT under load) but when riding the 1/4 throttle feels good and wide open feels fine but 1/4 to 3/4 will not rev out. If i cruise at half throttle and twist to full it just bogs entirely but I am not sure if it is a lean or rich bog. The carb is a stock chinese copy of what would be the original. Engine is completely stock 90cc from Yamaha. I have tried every needle position from 1 - 5 but the scooter still remains powerless 1/4 to 3/4 throttle. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA
I would expect that to be needle position, so with it not responding I would clean the carb thoroughly and see if it improves. This also assumes that it ran well at some point prior. If it never ran well, then maybe it's the wrong needle.
@@49ccscoot thanks for the swift reply! the carb on there now is a chinese replacement that I bought new to replace the old carb that the Jog came with from the previous owner That old carb was supposedly from the same supplier but differed slightly with its layout. My fault but was eager as they are pretty rare to find the 90cc UPDATE: The needle from the old carb is longer than that of the new carb and so I have put the old longer needle with clip in middle position into the newer carb and the scooter feels much more responsive from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle. Really good detail and step by step. I have a 2005 kymco people scooter that sat for a year and a half. I changed the fuel out and did a carb clean out but still the bike just idles. It bogs down the minute I try to get moving. Any suggestions?
The clutch bell should be somewhat simple. Hold the rear brake and use a large ratchet and it should come loose. If you've got someone to help you can have them sit on the scoot and hold the rear brake to make it easier for you to use the ratchet, and their weight on the scoot will keep the wheel still easier.
Nice tutorial as always. Where is best place to find purchase this part and other carburetor parts for this set up. I have NXL 90 cc Eton with this carb. Thanks Joe
That little clip I didn’t know how to reinstall was searching you tube all day thank you now I have another problem when I start the bike it runs at full throttle can you help me it’s like I’m giving it full throttle the engine is screaming
Take the top of the carb back off and check it over. Sometimes the slide can be installed wrong and the throttle is stuck open. Before you start it, check throttle movement. If necessary, remove the air filter or airbox so you can see if the slide is down where it should be rather than risking a runaway scooter.
I usually experienced bogging at 1/4-3/4 throttle when the scooter is running from cold and start it when parked for hours. But it runs fine when already warm. Do i need to richen the needle a notch down? Or do i just need to warm up my scooter for 7-10mins where it runs fine at that time and solves the issue?haha
From another post, it sounds like maybe there's an issue with your enricher or perhaps idle settings. You cna try a position richer and see how it does though.
Could be the main jet too large or too small or clogged. Most of the time things are fine new, but not always so I clean new carbs before installing. If it takes some time before it bogs out, then maybe insufficient fuel from float height or fuel flow.
Can you please make a video on how to derestrict a first gen Eton beamer pn2 with out buying a performance cdi show me how to bypass cdi box there's no wire on my CDI box to cut
Different people have their own methods. I prefer to get the idle good enough that it doesn't die on me, then I work on finding the right main jet, then needle, then idle/pilot settings.
I’ve just rebuilt my delorto 17.5 and my needle was all the way in when I tore it down. I’ve set it to middle now and wondering if I’ve messed up! What would be the symptoms to make you want to go either way on it?
The good news is that you've richened it up (assuming all the way in means lowered all the way). If it's too rich, it may sputter part throttle or during transitions. If it's too lean, it may bog and you should see elevated CHT if you have that gauge.
@@ShalomBrother Basically. There is a guy that made DellOrto Needle Carb Fuel Mapper. It's a program that will show you the effects that changing needles and needle position should have on mixture. You still need to do test runs though.
Trying to find one of those little spring clips that holds the needle and the e clip in the round slide for a 26 mm round slide carb do you have any suggestions where I can find one
Luckily I haven't lost one of those and had to replace it. I'm not sure if there's some common spring clip or not, but if it's a name brand carb my first attempt would be looking where they sell carbs and parts of that brand. If it's generic, then see if you can find a parts site of anything that uses that carb and see if it's listed in diagrams. Sorry that's prob not a lot of help, but I'm not sure.
Clean the whole carb. Make sure the bowl is filling and staying full. Make sure you have good fuel flow. Those are the basics. If you've made changes and it's doing this, then it could need tuning. Make sure the airbox is installed and in good shape with a clean filter. If it's bogging on throttle application and then works OK, it may be as simple as a needle position adjustment.
@@49ccscoot what is your opinion on premix ratio? When I ran 250cc gp bikes there was a slight increase in hp at 25:1 over 32:1, but I’m concerned that this will load up and foul since it’s someones daily driver and not full throttle most of time. Karts we ran 16:1 without issues.
@@jimccc9467 32:1-50:1 is the common range for most scoots. I used 50:1 for years, but after seeing the difference at 32:1 I've stuck with that. Most will use 40-50:1 with stock to sport stuff, and then up the oil to 32-40:1 for anything more aggressive.
Hi, please help. My needle has 5 positions. My question is, if I have the needle is in position 5, super rich cause that’s how my kart runs fastest, should I change the pilot jet to a bigger one and then bring the needle down to position 3 or 4? My understanding is that if the needle is in position 1 or 5, you should change the pilot jet to a smaller one or bigger one, so the needle ends up in position 3 or 4, is that correct? Thanks 🙏
I usually put the needle in the middle to begin tuning. Dial in the main jet and pilot. Then figure out where the needle works best. If I can't get it right at that point, then I may go back to jetting.
My throttle isn't working at al every time I start it wants to take off maybe I didn't line up the groves correctly for the needle to go up idle sounds very loud too any idea how to adjust the the mixture and the idle screw to the correct location 🙏
I'd start by taking the throttle cable and slide assembly out and carefully reinstalling them. Usually these issues are from improper installation. Could be something sticking or the idle speed screw is set too high. You can turn idle speed screw a couple of turns out from seated. That should be good enough that it doesn't rev too high if it's the problem.
i noticed that u had a casket on your throttle is this nesarsary for a tight fit as mine as none.and it will not lie flat when the screw is tightend. thus makeing my exsellerating from 0 very slugish. thanks

You shouldn't be fiddling with the mixture and needle settings for max power. Tune high throttle positions by selecting the best main jet. www.49ccscoot.com/faq/carbtune.html

make it run lean for the testes then tune it properly after, a lot of manufacturers under tuned their bikes and made em run a bit lean so they could pass eco testes but they run a lot better with more fuel
+Ravi Shane - I believe the emission tests are done approximately at middle throttle. So the best way is to play with the needle height. Although I strongly advise you to get a set of vacuum gauges and fine tune the carbs properly your motor and your riding pleasure/pocket will thank you later. ;-) PS: Make sure the ignition system is also in tip top condition, clean spark plugs, etc. Makes quite a difference in the emissions. ;-)
I can not find out how to get my 90cc monsoon 4 wheeler to go full throttle when ever I floor it it bogs down and dies I've tried the air mixture screw and a lot I things need help! Please reply! Thanks!
Have you tried different main jets? Is the airbox installed and in good original condition? Is the air filter clean? Check for a cracked intake or hoses that could cause a vacuum leak.
does the needle have anything to do with how the bike idles. im having a hard time tuning bike up to quarter throttle. it goes on but my bike turns off after it idles for about 1-3minutes.
The needle and main jet can affect idle, but usually they only have much effect if they're way off. Try swapping pilot jets, based on what you have to do with the idle mix screw. If you have to turn the mix screw all the way rich to get it to work best, swap in a larger pilot. If it's gotta be all the way lean to work best, try a smaller pilot. Also make sure the float height is set correct. If it is set high or low it could change fuel delivery.

i noticed that u had a casket on your throttle is this nesarsary for a tight fit as mine as none.and it will not lie flat when the screw is tightend. thus makeing my exsellerating from 0 very slugish. thanks
Question. When I change the main jet, do I need to adjust the position of the needle or do I leave it as it was? Thanks
Leave it. You don't want to change a bunch of stuff at once because it gets confusing what is working and what is not. www.49ccscoot.com/faq/carbtune.html
great video! i love all your tutorials... i think i have a problem : yamaha neo's 2002, i turn it all in mixure and needle is on up to first (i have 5), and the scuter run bether whit this settings.... i have done difrent settings and this is fine, but if i do it corectly to get the high speed on the mixure screw ( aprox 1 turn left) the scooter dont have that power and in the max rpm have problem sttutering and lose speed! wen i close all the air have power...and my problem is :i think i can get more speed...i feel it how rpm increase but stil slow increase...but i do not have more to close that screw mixure...and the pilot jet its big enough! thanks for video1 can you anser me please?
You shouldn't be fiddling with the mixture and needle settings for max power. Tune high throttle positions by selecting the best main jet.

ok thx, u help me a lot :D
Great video !!
Let me ask you: I got a 50 cc Honda DIO and it's stalling when I stop. It takes ages to reach 30 km/h. Almost no power ! After 30's it goes well, I just got no power until 30 km/h.
Do you have any tips for that ? Thank you so much !
Thanks for your explanation. My bike Yamaha FZR 250. i cleaned my mikuni
carburator (4) and cleaned main jet, pilot jet and adjust air mixture 2.5
turns out from the closing point.Cleaned the air filter. My problem is 3 times failed my eco
(smoke) test and result show more petrol consumption.but last years
easily pass the eco test.My problem is need to reduce petrol. How can i
adjust/reduce petrol flow ?please help.Thank
make it run lean for the testes then tune it properly after, a lot of manufacturers under tuned their bikes and made em run a bit lean so they could pass eco testes but they run a lot better with more fuel
Thanks Charlie.
+Ravi Shane - I believe the emission tests are done approximately at middle throttle. So the best way is to play with the needle height.
Although I strongly advise you to get a set of vacuum gauges and fine tune the carbs properly your motor and your riding pleasure/pocket will thank you later. ;-)
PS: Make sure the ignition system is also in tip top condition, clean spark plugs, etc.
I had a similar problem, a quick check is to put your hand over the air intake, if it runs better when you block it than you need a bigger jet
Super
Still using this in 2018
does the needle have anything to do with how the bike idles. im having a hard time tuning bike up to quarter throttle. it goes on but my bike turns off after it idles for about 1-3minutes.
Hey brother I have the weirdest 2 stroke scooter/Pitt bike mutant I'm guessing its50 CC's it has kmb stickers but no serial numbers any where this thing is built like tank do
There's a company called Kayo KMB that makes some pit bikes. Maybe browse their site and see if you can find what you have.
Lost my ilde mixture screw on the road. Not cool. Had to make one and retap the carb to 1/4-28.
How do you readjust the throttle cable at the end without creating slack? I tried but could not get any tension on the cable.
You should be able to screw the adjuster out so it's longer and takes up slack.
@@49ccscoot Thanks! I'm gonna try it today!👍
Hi my man. Is bogging on the bottom end due to diryy carbs or fuel line issues? usually only happens everytime i first start the scooter cold during the day it bogs on take off but once warmed up after reving a few meters or so, bogging is gone.
Simple solution is let it warm up. It's likely too lean for good cold start running.
what causes that same carb in you video to flood fuel out the vent when running andto start thebike you hae to cover rhe carb forcing it rich?
I'd start by checking the float height.
Will do . I appreciate your advice and so does my adly
Moving the needle does what exactly? performance wise...
mine has trouble starting. but once its warmed up its fine. any ideas on making it easier to start
See if the automatic enricher is working, if so equipped.
90GTVert is their anyway to go around the enricher or put in a manual choke with out buying a whole new carb?
I've never done it, but there are cable chokes. Some E-Tons have them and some Polaris and possibly other ATVs that use the Minarelli.
+90GTVert hey man where did you get your jet kit? Or did you make it up as you got more?
I bought most of my jets from JetsRUs. It's not a kit. You can get small kits from PartsForScooters.
hey ive got a question so i have a dilemma so my carb needle fits in my carb but it will wiggle freely up and down (until it hits the little bit that is supposed to be holding it in i have no idea how tf i am supposed to make it stay still considering there is a chance i have the wrong piece or i way have just done sumething wrong. but the lip on the iside is so big that the needle is not held in place by the bit. looking for some help from anyone
I'm wondering if you have the wrong parts or something was worn or modified at this point. You could go on the forum at 49ccscoot.proboards.com and post pics or a quick vid so we can see it. That might get you some better advice.
I have an ATV that hasn't started in a while untill yesterday after I clean the carburetor, it idles great, but anything past 1/4 throttle the engine just bogs down and looses power, any idea how to fix this?
1st, make sure the airbox is installed and in good condition.
Are you sure you got the jets clear? Especially the main jet.
90GTVert I blasted air through the Jets, do you think a clogged/ slow fuel filter would cause that to happen
It's possible. Petcock issue or float height too low would work along the same lines.
90GTVert ok will adjust the float height hopefully that works
Is the middle on 5 slot 2t stock position on Vespa LX
do you know of any stores that carry a c clip that is small enough to replace the one on the needle in the carb?
Check local hardware stores. Ace and mom & pop stores are your best bet I think. You may also try RC hobby shops because they use some tiny clips. Take the needle with you.
Hi can i fix 100cc carburettor to a 150cc bike and will it work
Maybe. There's not 1 specific "100cc carburettor" or only 1 type of 150. Generalizing, the carb could be a little small or could work well.
