I think most people don't understand how long crochet items can take to make up. So especially when they look at the impkins for example, they see something small and think... I'm not paying that for something so small.
ik i just packed all mine away to send to my gma to sell and im thinking of unpacking them and repricing them lower bec that made me nervous. I have mine at $25 but all the accessories are removable and you can buy add on clothing items. Im prob going to leave mine they way they are but i AM sending mine TO cali and to a wealthy part of the state so im prob fine... still makes me scared they arent going to sell esp bec they took MONTHS to make.
@@darkdest6664 it should be okay if it's going to be in a wealthier neighborhood! you have to consider your client base/the community you're selling to. If you're in a community where everyone is working min wage then $25 for a single item might be a big ask, if you're in a community where people are middle class $25 is something that people may be willing to splurge on to support a small business.
Last time i purchased crochet items at a market was for my kids and the chick selling them goes aw they are this much because the yarn is so expensive and i said dont explain to me i crochet and u dont have to explain to anyone. She told me she normally had to explain her prices to everyone
Glad the Mushroom Impkin did not sell - Because I just ordered it for my kid - "Delicious in Dungeon" fan! Yay me! Thank you, Paige. I love all the impkins!
looks like you sold a lot! it's tough for noncrocheters/crafters to get why something so smol is worth so much. i would have a hard time pricing things lower than i know they're worth; we all deserve to be paid fairly for our labor.
I LOVE the checkered bags! My thought on the reason for not purchasing them would be the fact that it doesn’t have a zipper. I’m paranoid about my things falling out of pockets/bags that don’t have any kind of closure. So that could be why they didn’t sell. They are super cute, and definitely well worth the price!
honestly, I think you under price some items and the reason they didn’t sell is because it didn’t reach the right person yet. Im selling my beanies for $35 and people buy them no problem because they genuinely want them and are interested in supporting me. Your doing great and don’t lower the price if they didn’t sell that time, try to stick with the price and I know its so hard because I used to sell my paintings for $20!! Now I sell them for $150. Do price of materials x time + $/hr ❤️❤️❤️
I think it's the economy, to be honest. It sucks. I like to window shop, but I can't bring myself to buy a 36 dollar purse. Not because I don't think it's worth it, but because I have to consider what else I may need to buy or what other expenses might come up. Also, I have a hard time buying "frivolous" things for myself, because the economy is so costly just for the necessities. One thing to consider (which you did) is that maybe the vibe of that market was just not the right vibe. Here's to trying again! ❤❤
i think the checkered bags will sell around valentines day, maybe with a cute fuzzy keychain attached and the string of pearls plant could maybe have sequins or beads sewn on. the bowl cozies you could sell w a beautiful bowl, maybe even a handmade bowl so that people can really see their use. also the tarot card bags you could market as card bags, they would sell to any audience. just some ideas offhand :)
i love those checkered bags at 3:10!! for me personally i would not have bought them because of the color scheme, if it were green and/or black i'd jump for it. if it had pockets too it'd be an instant buy!!
update: i ordered the kindle cover! cant waittt! I've been following this market journey and you've inspired me to set a goal of doing my own in the Fall! I think the purses don't sell because, as far as I can tell, they don't have a zipper or closure. I personally am very clumsy and carefree with my bag and would worry about my stuff falling out. Maybe if you added those metal magnet button closures it would help? also I'm shocked the kindle cover didn't sell!!
Someone may have commented this- but I saw a story or something where the seller had the price on one side of the tag and the hours spent making it on the other. I thought that was super interesting. Haven’t done a craft show in years so idk how common that is. (Not that snarky buyers can’t be like- it’s so small or whatever it couldn’t have taken that long) but we know the truth ❤😊
I would have bought all of the bowl cozies 😂 I’ve always loved those things! Also good for cereal!! Put a bowl of cereal in one when you set up in summer ( or fake ice cream)
Something that has helped me sell more in the past is double stranding my acrylic yarn. It takes the same amount of time but is sooooo much bigger! Acrylic is pretty cheap so it doesn"t affect me with the price really. But I mostly do plushies. So this might not work with other items such as bags or accessories.
your items are beautiful and as a fellow maker i think you are definitely under pricing for all of your hard work. don’t take an item not selling as a reason for the price to be wrong or anything. i see plenty of stuff priced higher and sell just fine, if someone wants an item they will pay. might just be that specific audience, your work is so lovely and i know from experience how much time and work they take
I've just discovered your channel a few days ago (and you don't have to cry lol). An idea for the plants that didn't sell, maybe adding a few small flowers in a contrasting colour would sell? I think it would be cute though.
My thought on low sellers: -That kindle cover is everything, but not everybody owns a kindle. If you add two d-rings to the sides, to allow it to carry vertically as a purse, I'd buy it in a snap. Or, really, anything with this colourful, interesting pattern on it that I cold use. -the check purses are a tad small for the price, but simple things add versitility. Again side d-rings that allow people towear a purse cross-body will appeal to a whole other kind of purse carrier, and adding just a simple flat patch pocket into the lining helps there be just a little more organization inside, which counts for a lot. This could be somebody's all-the-time purse, so the option to wear it hands free and abny extra internal organization pockets help sell that. I expect making the colours and pattern of the kindle sleeve as a 3D lined bag with crossbody capability would be a fair bit harder, but that's what these make me long for.
There’s always the fact that people don’t understand the effort and time and materials it takes to make a higher priced item. But on top of that, especially if you’re at an event with multiple tents and setups, people want to buy a few things from as many places as they can! It’s easier to buy cheaper items when you wanna spread out your cash! But all the times that didn’t sell are items I’d still bring along bc the setting could’ve been off and you’ll always find someone who falls in love with one of your products and will pay whatever price it is just to have it! Keep up the great work!!!
Congrats on your market, you did really well. And thank you for going over everything in detail, including what didn't sell and how many, that is very helpful. I have my first market next month so I'm still looking for ideas
Thanks for sharing your experience here! ❤️ I've been toying with the idea of tabling at a market/fair, and it's super useful to see what did and didn't work for you
The tarot card holder looks like a sanitary pad holder, which I would definitely buy as it looks cure and has function for broader audience (like me) :)
I am so excited I found your channel! Loving your videos. And my daughter just asked me today to make her washcloths, so happy to have this pattern. Thank you for sharing! ❤
one of the reasons the tarot wrap might not have sold well is the sizing. Different decks have different sizes, I would be very hesitant to buy one already made and risk my cards not fitting in properly by being too big or too little, and it’s a very simple project, so many who are interested in a deck wrap would make one themselves (mine unfolds to be a big square towel, so I can read anywhere and keep them protected from dirt)
Your shoulder bags need longer handles and some type of closure, possible button and loop. Love your creativity. The frogs were cute, maybe make a pink girl frog?
this is a great breakdown, thank you for sharing, I didn't know what a bowl cozy was until you explained it for soup, awesome idea and might be worth it to have a bowl and spoon for demo. have a good weekend :)
Absolutely LOVE the checkered bags, but I’d say make some in more “accessible colors”? If you know what I mean, like something that goes with everything or toned down a bit? Like a green-brown for example. I’d wear these as well but I think that could’ve been an issue is “what do I wear w this?”
sometimes, things don't sell because of what they think it's for. obviously, if i don't have a kindle, i'm not gonna buy a kindle cover. but i could buy a book cover... maybe just rename the item! ive done that many times and sometimes it can make or break an item
I think for the string-of-pearls hanging plant if you had changed the colors like you mentioned I would buy it for more then $15, I was surprised you priced it low when it looks like a complicated pattern, Id expect at least 20-25 just looking at it. Then again, I am a crocheter, and know how long things can take lol
Idk if u care/will see this comment but that kindle cover is cool as heck and u could probably sell it if u turned it into a satchel with a cross body strap?
I've started to participate in a monthly very very small craft event in my very very small town and it's a learning curve. I don't have displays or anything, still organizing things and figuring out. It's gonna happen tomorrow and it's starting to get cold here in Brazil where I live so I hope to sell my beanies.
Did one of your cats take a bite out of your microphone? I have one that tries to eat foam like that so that's why I'm asking 😂 Also, how much did you make total and how much was the booth fee again? It sounds like it was definitely worth your time to do it. I'm glad most stuff sold well. ❤
I'm shocked about the teddy bear balaclava! But yeah, I think the season had a lot to do with it. My HONEST opinion- people have access to really cheap items and don't appreciate handmade things.
It's likely prices. People don't understand (or care) that hand made items take longer to make and that you're paying the creator for their time and for the materials. Like, okay sure you might be able to buy a plush or a bag for less at a shop but you're not actually paying the person who created that *specific* item. The person who put together that item you buy in the shop did it for pennies on the dollar and will never be given fair compensation for their work. Handmade items that are being sold in a market/fair are priced to give the creator compensation for their time and effort and skill. Ugh, sorry for the rant. It's so frustrating to see people talking about "child labor bad" "no to sweat shops" but then turn around and refuse to buy from craftspeople who actually handmake things b/c "it costs too much, I could buy it on X-drop shipping site for pennies".
I've made the same market bags. I think I priced them at $20 and they still didn't sell. I love mine though! If people only knew. Advertise the bowl cozies for bowls of ice cream during the summer. Hey paige on ur etsy it says mouse in a suitcase set for 15 dollars, is that a mistake or is that like the pattern? i know usually they're more expensive im so confused😭
i added options to the listing! so the mouse by itself is $15 and the entire package is more but i think etsy showcases the smallest price to get people to click or something
If somebody’s not buying your crochet items they are not just worth them! Btw how is your pink and white checkered back so much more perfect than the other one? Like the squares seem more defined.
I think the checkered bags are hard to sell because they have kind of a teen/young person aesthetic and they don’t want to spend that much on a bag/ don’t have that much disposable income
Don’t get discouraged. Take it to the next market and the next market and the one after that until someone wants it. All of those pieces were great and maybe just didn’t get in front of the right person that time!!
The only things I sold were washcloths and anything plant related. So that’s my big focus now since my bag stock is still super high. I sold 2 but I had 16+ so not great
As a word of constructive criticism, I can see why the items that didn’t sell, didn’t sell. I’m not sure what yarn you’re using but that would have been my biggest turn off. I can see how impkins take time but if you’re making it out of commercial acrylic yarn, essentially it’s a plastic doll. I suggest maybe using a cotton or some blend of it. Additionally, the arms look awkward and uneven (especially the alien attenas). The yarn critique applies to the balaclava as well IMO. It looks stiff and doesn’t have very nice drape that I’ve seen in ones I have purchased (not sure if you blocked it try doing that or maybe a yarn that blocks nicer). That the feeling I get with the straps of the checkered bags as well- someone mentioned a zipper which was my first thought. the mushroom pillow looks phallic especially with the loose top. I think it could be better stuffed so the shape opens up/ maybe some brighter colors. I agree that the planter is ugly. The colors are a bit dull and the actual stems and leaves look dead. They aren’t very full and resemble dead vines. I would just rename the kindle case as a tablet/ereader case and have a few universal dimensions. If people see kindle case but don’t have a kindle, they’ll skip over it.
For the chekered bag you could try making the price 35.99 because in stores a lot of items are xx.99 and it just makes the item seem like its less expencive idk, but yoy could try intead of the price being 36 dollars make it 35.99
Your prices are more than fair I think you’re undercharging. Could be difference of location cause I’m from CA (SD and LA area) so everything is expensive. Don’t sell yourself short, just learn to anticipate your audience :)
I think most people don't understand how long crochet items can take to make up. So especially when they look at the impkins for example, they see something small and think... I'm not paying that for something so small.

Seems like the small items take me more time. And I never charge what it’s worth. I’d rather sell it, than be a stickler on the price.
My blankets (baby or afghan) take 1 to 3 months to finish. I sell them for up to $100 depending on size.

You should do a Ren Faire. They would give you the attention you deserve. I don't think your prices are bad at all.
Love your videoes❤ I would love to see a grunge crochet ideas or/and crochet ideas for book lovers😊
The summer version of a bowl cozy would be an ice cream pint koozie!
Great tips!! Thanks so much! I am loving making the scrunchies and I'm about to try the headband. : )

The mimkins!!! Outrageous!
(but honestly, the economy, it's not that people don't think your products are worth it but they have to be frugal. )

Nooooo! You are underpricing your items!!!! Don’t be afraid!! They are well made and beautiful.
Thank you! I'm wanting to open a crochet business! Also pardon my English when it's day it's good but when comes night....yeah
I've started to participate in a monthly very very small craft event in my very very small town and it's a learning curve. I don't have displays or anything, still organizing things and figuring out.

Def making these for my next market ❤
I want to make a bunch of coasters for one in the fall, this made me feel like they’ll probably sell since people seem to like them
paige i love your makeup!!! and that butterfly frame in the background is gorrrgeous!!!!
I would like an alien. I love your crochet.
Enjoyed the video, but i subscribed at the beginning. Don’t cry

Also, how much did you make total and how much was the booth fee again? It sounds like it was definitely worth your time to do it. I'm glad most stuff sold well. ❤
she has cats so they were prbly chewing on it
I think Paige made a little over $1800 . . . if my math is correct 🤪She did awesome!

Hiya Paige, Aw well done girl, sounds like the market was an interesting experience . I think u did very well❣️

Bowl cozy in summer is great when eating ice cream in a dish
If somebody’s not buying your crochet items they are not just worth them! Btw how is your pink and white checkered back so much more perfect than the other one? Like the squares seem more defined.
The bowl cozies...just shift! Use them to keep your hands from freezing holding a bowl of ice cream!!
What do you do about vendors insurance for craft fairs and stuff?
I think the checkered bags are hard to sell because they have kind of a teen/young person aesthetic and they don’t want to spend that much on a bag/ don’t have that much disposable income

I love your videos I hope you get to 180k 😊😊
i love your videos so much!!! if you havent already could you do a video of crochet arm warmer ideas? also you are very pretty :3
I have always imagined that any of the Impkin creatures would sell well at a Ren fair, or certain cosplay conferences.
Thank you for sharing, this is really useful :)
I’d love to know a breakdown of how much you made and if it was worth it!
Totally seems worth it!
For the chekered bag you could try making the price 35.99 because in stores a lot of items are xx.99 and it just makes the item seem like its less expencive idk, but yoy could try intead of the price being 36 dollars make it 35.99
happy pride month bestie!!
happy pride 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
I feel like the first ones need outfits so people can choose an outfit with them for me that would be cute but that's me
For the bags, I think it’s the straps. I don’t buy any bags without adjustable straps
In my area, bowl cozies sell well, but they are priced at $8.
trisha paytas needs that pink and white checkered bag omg
Add a zipper to the checkered shoulder bag.
Great job
Bags pink and red are they cotton ? Market bags ?, dont know why they wouldnt sell.
The checkered should bags didn’t sell because, the style is too commercially flooded. No matter what, it’s going to look chintzy to casual shoppers.
For the bags get away from the pinks and do blues I bet they’ll sell
For your shoulder bags, it could be the color. I love the colors but not in a bag.
The prices are all fine. Don’t charge them!!
Your prices are more than fair I think you’re undercharging. Could be difference of location cause I’m from CA (SD and LA area) so everything is expensive. Don’t sell yourself short, just learn to anticipate your audience :)
my first market is gonna be my local pagan pride fest, so im hoping some of these items will sell better there !! fingers crossed !!!
Your prices are not too high. Stick to your prices it’s just timing ❤
