Best video on changing this watch battery. I don’t even need to change my battery, just watching for future reference and I wanted to see what the insides look like.
Over the past 24 years i have gone through 4 of these watches. I have learned the hard way NOT to ever separate the layers of the movement! Instead, when you go to change the battery, all you need to do is unhook the battery clip. Leave the movement in the case. Release the battery hold-down clip, slide the battery out, give it a slight push from the back and it comes out easily. Then put the new battery in and clip down the latch that holds it in. Then do an AC clear. I used a 1 foot long piece of #24 gauge wire to poke down in the AC hole while touching the other end of the wire to the battery plus side. Did this for both AC holes because I am not sure which one works. Got the watch running again. Good so far. The spring came out and I was only able to put it back upside down with the wire tang on top but it works ok that way, and the little piezo buzzer thingy still makes noise. The electroluminescent light works again with the new battery. Picked up the battery on Ebay for $1.36 total and it arrived 4 days later. Now after watch #4, I have finally learned how to properly change battery in a Casio A168 watch. DO NOT SEPARATE THE LAYERS OF THE WORKS. Use battery clip only. Leave the works in the case. Do an AC clear. Good to go. 😁
Thanks for the video. I have a Casio Illuminator, and I couldn't figure out how to release the clip. Without this video it is likely I would have broken it.
2:16 - I installed *NFC* tag inside my watch face! ( _Search A168 NFC_ ) and couldn't figure out where silver *Spring* came out from! (There's also Tiny Gold spring inside) Thanks for the video really helped and made sure I don't lose it / learnt from your mistake! 😊👍✨
⚠️ - NOTE: You have to install spring from inside, From the battery side ( there's a tiny leg on the spring that stops spring from coming out all the way ) - That's what I did 😊
You should never pull out the spring. It is secured on the other end and it enables the beeping of the clock. I learned this the hard way by following this video. If you are only replacing the battery, you do not even need to remove the internal assembly. DO NOT FOLLOW THIS VIDEO.

Is there a warning before the battery runs out? I don't know how old mine is, and thus not how long the battery will last for. (and I'm scared I'll miss my alarm some day)
No warning! BUT! When you run the illuminator and it barely lights up and the watch display numbers dim, you know it's time to change. :) You'll notice the dim long before the alarm fails to sound (that's how mine was, at least).
I'm a noob, in general around any sensitive electronics I don't use magnetic screwdrivers. I have no idea if it matters on watches but that's what I do.
@@junbox618 Now it does, actually its cause of the damn spring. If its not there, i wont make pressure so the alarm wont beep, if you go too hard on the screws when cloasing the case, it will make too much preassure and again, no sound. Ive though my battery was low, the watch is 5 years old. Dont know what happend, i just slept with the watch on wrist and when ive woke up the word casio was appearing all the time, now, the motherfuck3r is ready for the battle again!
@Jake Demuss I'm whisper, this is my other account. I've manage to put the spring back, the watch is making it's sounds now. Btw, don't close the case back too tight or it will not make any sounds either.
My A168 has the weakest alarm I have ever heard from any digital watch I have owned, and I've owned various brands since 1982 when I was 8 years old. Granted my hearing isn't what it used to be, but the alarm is barely audible on this watch. I have tried other 168's, and the alarms seem barely noticeable on them as well. Anybody else have this problem? My other Casio digital watch has a much louder alarm, but not this one. My guess is that it's because the 168 has a bigger case, so the sound seems weaker. I may try replacing the piezo element at a later date and see if that helps.
I agree the beeps on Casios today are less audible than Casios from the 90s I'm used to. We have so many devices that make noise and alarm us, I'm glad this isn't one of them (for me)
It really isn't. You *do not* need to remove the main part of the watch to change the battery. This video is basically a teardown of the watch. The main part of the watch can (and should) be left inside the case while you change the battery, so you have less chance of dust getting between the display and glass.

Thanks aZnDawg wooF. I should make more like these
Many thanks! I'm m so happy to have my a168 back in commission after an absence of 5 years!
Hahahaha yea for sure. It's a fun watch to come back to. We have a wedding coming up in October, I'll be sure to wear this one ;)
The spring is functional - it contacts with the piezo cell on the caseback to make the alarm and beeps.
Thanks! Good knowledge good thing I wouldn't use the alarm. LOL
@@junbox618 Thats why mine wasnt beeping.
this guy...lol...thinking its to open the case back!!

Is it possible that it's the same type A168 but the location of the springs is different?

@@junbox618 good to hear it still works 😊
Might wanna use a cloth to put under the watch, the glass scratches sooo easy! Nice video
Good idea. Hahahaha
Yes, I use a microfiber towel.

The spring comedy gold 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Doesn't the spring make an electrtical contact from something inn the watch to the metalic back cover?

You would be the first person ever to call me adorable... Hahaha

DID YOU EVER FIND THE SCREW? BECAUSE ONE JUST DROPPED FROM MY CEILING AND LANDED ON MY LIVING ROOM TABLE WITH A SINGLE SOCK. WEIRD
I have the A163 model. Is it really necessary to take out the mechanism from the case?
nope..this guy boy
cool vid, keep up the good and informative vids!
Great video
LMAO at the spring 🤣🤣
does f91 also the same?
How many years does the battery last?
About 3-4 years in my experience
can you share the link of the screwdriver? thanks
How old this watch is bro?
Where can i get cell
Where can I get cell
sorry for the spring man :/
The spring may be fell down under plastic black case. It happened me.
Does replacing the battery change its water resistance?
I think when the case back is on it's not any looser, so I imagine it's the same. But I wouldn't consider it waterproof, maybe "splash resistant"
I ending up just throwing it in the garbage and bought a new one. I do have a new battery now but I might a well just throw it away too!

Have a nice day!
Always use a torque screwdriver for the screws!
Hi,looks very easy, but which screwdriver dimension you use ?
Just a tiny one LOL don't know the size
Is your battery 6. Volt
CR2016 is a 3 volt battery!
No AC reset?
I usually do with my G Shocks, doesn't seem to matter with this one...still going months after
@@junbox618 got it, thanks
So I followed as shown but right now only the light works everything else is blank. Any ideas?
Why not use the screwdriver magnet to put back screws in those tiny holes hehe anyway nice video

The screws on the A168 are non-metallic, at least on the one I own. I have tried using a magnetic screwdriver, and the didn't stick.
@@ku4uv good knowledge thanks!!!
you cannot open the latch there is a small black block that is preventing it from opening
There are no moving parts here, it is called a module.

An automatic watch looks easier to work.
All you need to do is wind the crown set the time and forget about it.
