I studied for a year in Japan during university. The summer was indeed the worst season, mostly because of the humidity. The heat was manageable but it was so damn humid my winter jacket, which had been unused for several months and spent the entire summer hanging freely over the back of a chair (because I didn't have enough room in the tiny wardrobe of the student room to fit it in) ended up covered in mold!! _It was hanging freely, with as much air circulation as possible, and it got covered in mold in less than a month!!!_ Winter was absolutely amazing though. Much more snow than I'm used to and the skiing up in the mountains (with attached Ryokan) was extraordinary!
I studied in Japan over the summer and it was customary to have a mini fan and a towel everywhere I went. I probably bought several hundreds of vending machine waters and sodas just to try and combat the heat. I loved living there and can't wait to be back but oh my gosh, avoid the summer if you can folks, it is every bit as bad as they say.
I just finished a month-long Japan trip in September and coming from an Australian who is used to some of the hottest summers on Earth... JAPANESE HUMIDITY IS INSANE! I've never had to shower 3 times in a day before and everywhere was just so exhausting. Going to Gion in Kyoto and seeing so many people on the brink of heatstroke was not a fun sight. If you're indoors most of the time then it's pretty managable but if you're a tourist, you're likely exploring in the heat. July to September are now no-go zones for my return trips to Japan hahahaha
As someone is is Filipino who lives in California where it can reach 3 digits on most summer days Philippines summer is another beast cause of the humidity. Dry air is nothing compared to humid air 😅
My group of high school friends booked a Japan trip for our graduation during the summer. We got rained out while in Kyoto so we couldn’t go visit that temple on the cliff side but thankfully there was a covered street 5 min walk away from where we were staying so that worked. As a vancouverite, when I see rain, it’s improvise, adapt, overcome
I live in the south too and just got back from 2 weeks in tokyo...dont underestimate the heat. In america we're in our air conditioned cars or stores or houses. In japan youre typically on foot or on public transport and the ac there is pretty weak in comparison Dont let it discourage you from going though! I had an amazing time! (Just hella sweaty)
Just because you think you can endure it doesn't mean you should do it anyways. I'm born and raised in hot & sticky Miami so I thought the same as you. It completely killed my enjoyment. I did around 20k steps a day and it was miserable. It literally feels like you're swimming through the air when you walk, that's how humid it is. This time around, I'm happily going in mid-March through early April.
@@thecannabistreatment7236 I've literally described Washington humidity the same way. Maybe I'd have a higher tolerance for Japanese humidity. Then again, I grew up with Washington humidity, and I still hated it.
@@thecannabistreatment7236 That's why you have to pace yourself. I live in florida too, and because of health issues I can't handle the heat and humidity here well at all; I'm very susceptible to heat stroke and getting sick from the heat in general. Despite that though my family LOVES to drag me on trips to tampa and orlando for theme parks because they have yearly passes. That shit SUCKS.. Bit it's a thing we do yearly, as a big family thing, so I usually can't get out of it. It's become much easier to deal with when I pace myself. At times that literally means me sitting inside a resturaunt or bathroom for half an hour while the rest of my family goes and has fun. That same concept can be applied anywhere. You don't have to torture yourself in the heat and then tell others they can't handle it just because you chose to not be smart about it :/

I’ve been in Texas for 19 years of existence and still haven’t gotten used to that heat and humidity… I can only imagine Japan because it’s right next to the sea lol
It just depends on which part of Texas you live in because Texas is an Ecotone (many different biomes in a State) which parts are Woods, Grasslands, and a Desert which that last one I can understand
Being more irritable in hot weather is so relatable, anyone on the tennis team can testify that if it's hot out and I don't have my water or forgot my change of clothes, I will be crashing out through all of practice. Though I will point out I'm also the guy who will do better than usual in tennis when wearing a thin sweater and sweatpants in average weather, instead of shorts and a t-shirt.
As a person that lived in japan my whole life. I can agree that summer can be really hot, but I find it fun to go to a beach. (After pandemic LOL) But hey, we're approaching winter. just a warning, enjoying nature in winter is not much of a choice 😅 Otherwise, Y'all enjoy the time in Japan and have a great day
Today I learned people hate summer. Like genuinely can’t stand the heat, and that makes me sad. There’s something so charming about late night outdoor barbecues lit up by torches and/or string lights, starry skies, and the sound of music and chatting loved ones. Trays of sweet fruit too. Also fireflies, flashing in the trees, bushes, and grass and little me would chase them. I miss those moments and look forward to getting to create them in the future.
As a major summer girl: yeah, heat stroke is no joke and that sounds like beginning heat stroke for sure. You did right. Stay hydrated yxll (and long loose light fabrics are great for keeping the sun off your skin while letting you breathe)
I know everyone has their own experience, but this makes me kinda want to visit Japan in the summer. I live in Nebraska, where July days are usually 35C and humidity is at 95%, and those days are always my favorite. I start feeling cold around 24C, 27C if there's no wind
I hate humidity… I hate it when it’s 40%… I definitely hate when it’s 120%… humidity sucks. Edited: sounds like you were experiencing “heat exhaustion” which is a very close prior step to heat stroke if not treated immediately. So you did the right thing.
3:50 this is actually on of the reasons why I love summer, I know it's crazy and maybe it's because I grew up in the Middle East where it was hot all the time, but for some reason sweat just makes me feel alive like it reminds me I'm a breathing human being and I like that feeling idk it's hard to explain.
You don't understand what hot weather is if you never went to bed and wet the whole bed with your sweat, it's not possible to even fall asleep at that point 💀
I'm Japanese. It's true that summers in Japan are too hot. It used to not be as hot as it is now, but recent summers seem to be a scorching hell. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the temperature in the seas around Japan is rising at a higher rate than the world average due to global warming. Furthermore, this year, the El Nino phenomenon, which lasted until spring, caused temperatures in the mid-latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere to rise considerably higher. Over the past few decades, the distribution areas of insects and plants seem to have changed due to global warming. In addition, rice shortages are becoming more serious due to the visitation of extreme heat every year. I fear that if this trend continues, Japan's natural environment will change drastically.
Amen Sister. I melt in Canadian summers. Japan would kill me. From your description you had mild heatstroke. It's not just dehydration with a cognitive impact like that. When I got heatstroke I was working a grill and stopped remembering what I did 1 second ago and felt very light-headed, so had to step away. You made to right move stopping and going into somewhere with ac.
I'm traveling to Japan on a group trip, and when booking the trip the group had scheduled the trip so I had the choice to pick either a trip for the spring or fall season (I ended up picking the fall season trip). Now I know they picked those seasons for a GOOD reason.
Hey you want to swap weathers, it’s constantly wet and raining in my stupid country and NOT having freaking wet socks nearly every day would be an amazing change

honestly this video spoke to me on a spiritual level.
Having lived both in a tropical swamp and a temperate steppe(near one of the hotest deserts on the earth), I can say confidently that the dry desert heat is usually easier to tank than even the winters in the tropics
As the saying goes;
"By rain or by sweat, anyway you're gonna get wet"
I've lived worse summers in India but one thing that makes summers worse in Japan is the FACT THAT THERE ARE NO CEILING FANS ANYWHERE. 35° AND NO AIR CIRCULATION.
Pretty sure AC trumps ceiling fans and they are rather ubiquitous in Japan.
depends, if they aren't turned on and at a comfortable temp (23-24c) then they might as well be nothing@MaheerKibria
Such an indian answer xD. Aircon my dude and if your saving power, a standing fan is the more logical answer.
Every year in India summer is becoming worse than the last summer.
@@KuroRyuu86 electricity bill my dude and also 35° isn't ac weather in India. Never turned the AC on India until we hit 38-40°. Also standing fans aren't there in most places either
_It was hanging freely, with as much air circulation as possible, and it got covered in mold in less than a month!!!_
Winter was absolutely amazing though.
Same here I live in Australia and where I live crap goes both way. In the summer🥵😵. In the winter🥶😵
Oh go
How cold does it get in winter?

JAPANESE HUMIDITY IS INSANE!
I've never had to shower 3 times in a day before and everywhere was just so exhausting. Going to Gion in Kyoto and seeing so many people on the brink of heatstroke was not a fun sight. If you're indoors most of the time then it's pretty managable but if you're a tourist, you're likely exploring in the heat. July to September are now no-go zones for my return trips to Japan hahahaha
Meanwhile summer in Philippines with average temperature of at least 40 degrees Celsius, 95% humidity and still drinking hot coffee.

As someone is is Filipino who lives in California where it can reach 3 digits on most summer days Philippines summer is another beast cause of the humidity. Dry air is nothing compared to humid air 😅
then we crave ice cream, when its cold and rainy
My group of high school friends booked a Japan trip for our graduation during the summer. We got rained out while in Kyoto so we couldn’t go visit that temple on the cliff side but thankfully there was a covered street 5 min walk away from where we were staying so that worked.
As a vancouverite, when I see rain, it’s improvise, adapt, overcome
I was thinking of going to celebrate me graduating, but I grew up in the south, so satan’s armpit is nothing to me
I live in the south too and just got back from 2 weeks in tokyo...dont underestimate the heat. In america we're in our air conditioned cars or stores or houses. In japan youre typically on foot or on public transport and the ac there is pretty weak in comparison
Dont let it discourage you from going though!
@@thecannabistreatment7236kinda sounds like Georgia
You don't have to torture yourself in the heat and then tell others they can't handle it just because you chose to not be smart about it :/
Ngl sounds like Houston during the summer time she even nailed hurricane season throwing a wrench into everything. 😅 same pain different parts of the world
as someone who lives in florida, i can say that heat and humidity together are no joke although it does get a lot hotter here i can see how japan in summer would be super rough
I arrived the beginning of september for school and wore sweatpants and a long sleeved shirt… arriving at the tokyo airport i was DRENCHED IN SWEAT AND LOOKED LIKED A BAKED SOGGY SAUSAGE😭

I’ve been in Texas for 19 years of existence and still haven’t gotten used to that heat and humidity… I can only imagine Japan because it’s right next to the sea lol
As a lifelong Louisiana resident, I might be just fine in Japan. Granted, I have been inside cold areas most of the summer due to my job 😅.

Wow I love you videos Emirichu and I will make sure in the future to not go to Japan in the summer . Hope Japan is going ok for you Emirichu
As a major summer girl: yeah, heat stroke is no joke and that sounds like beginning heat stroke for sure. You did right.
Stay hydrated yxll
(and long loose light fabrics are great for keeping the sun off your skin while letting you breathe)
I know everyone has their own experience, but this makes me kinda want to visit Japan in the summer. I live in Nebraska, where July days are usually 35C and humidity is at 95%, and those days are always my favorite. I start feeling cold around 24C, 27C if there's no wind
So Emirichu thinks it’s less humiliating to put her face in a freezer in a public store than passing out in the middle of the public street
Is that the Connor three drink method 1:21
This video made myself begin to sweat and for that I blame you. Florida summer too is hell

I agree.
I like summer mostly cuz it’s humid and it’s less hot when it’s humid
3:26 how could you put the yamcha pose in your video and expect me not to laugh. Cause i did 😂😂.
I'm melting! I'm melting! - Emirichu in the summer probably
Joking aside I get what you mean about summers in Japan. Spending some summers in Chigasaki could be quite exhausting, but visiting dad's parents in Hokkaido later on in the summer was always a plus.
4:50 can totally relate. took a trip to rome during summer, and it was miserable. bring water everywhere, and god be merciful to you if you forget!
