SO HAPPY you gave it a listen with an open mind. Yes Ronnie Dunns voice is INCREDIBLE. The story is HIS.....HE LOVED THAT OLD MAN. He said it's a very hard song to sing cause the pain of losing him still hurts. An incredible song in every way. Thank You❤
I've watched over a hundred reactions to this song. Many are moved by it...but few have any sense of the core issues here. You had the very best reaction...because you GET the central message of the song! God bless you, my brother.
Brooks was on the guitar and Dunn was singing and it is his story, of growing up. To be able to open yourself up like that and sing like that, that's true belief in his voice, and it's beautiful!!
Great, great reaction to a great song. So many people have no idea what the words in red are. Ronnie Dunn was a seminary student before dropping out to follow his career in music. He was the lead singer and cowriter of this touching song. This is the first reaction of yours that I have seen and I'm really impressed by your intelligence and your sincerity.
This is based on a real life event in the singers life, he almost became a minister because of it. Also the singer was born in the little TX town I grew up in.
I appreciate that you know what the words written in red mean. Most people who review this song do not know that. You did a great job of this reaction. Thanks.
the thing i love about country music... its story telling is second to none and very very often based on true stories. And yes they say that this is ronnies true story.
Hi, I just wanted to thank you for listening to this amazing song. Ronnie Dunn wrote it about an old man who became his friend and mentor. He truly loved that man. Ronnie learned more about faith from him than in church. His vocals a great and heartfelt. Kix Brooks sings occasionally, but he plays his guitar in this song. We should all be so lucky to have a person like this man in our lives. I hope the song blessed you in some way. ❤❤❤
This song is incredibly heart wrenching and beautiful! The bond that developed between a child and an elderly neighbor can happen anywhere (this is a true story fyi) The bits of life’s knowledge that he passed on is so beautiful. I tear up every time I watch this video!!!
I've always said that the lead singer, Ronnie Dunn, can serenade me anytime that he wants to. He is a man of faith. He was going to be Baptist preacher before he went into music. Great song. Gives me the weepies!
This is probably the best faith based song I have listened to in all of my 61 years. It hits straight to the heart. If this song doesn't touch your heart and mind you are a very cold person and need to reevaluate how you look at things. Thank you Brooks and Dunn for the Beautiful story and words. Fantastic song.
Ronny Dunn is an AMAZING singer. I'm 40 and I'm a big country music fan and this is, by far, one of my favorite songs ever. I love your channel. I just subscribed.
I've seen so many reactions to this beautiful story/song,and you are the 1st one who understood the line about the words in red. Mademe subscribe to your channel. God bless
I was going to say the same thing about "the words in red." I have watched a lot of reactions to this song & I think only one other reactor knew what that meant. Sad ...
I love that this story explores relationships from 2 different perspectives. First, the friendship than can be had between the young and old. It is so rich and deep that it lasts through both lifetimes and gives both so much. The other is the small town relationships between neighbors regardless of race. Those friendships are usually ignored and that’s a disservice to all.
Your interpretation of this song is spot on. Brooks and Dunn are a powerhouse musical duo. As stated before, this is a true story for Ronny Dunn - and he is VERY spiritual. I love how you picked up on nuances in the lyrics that many people miss. (Too many people do not know what “the words written in red mean”. I subscribed to your channel after this one reaction: you listen, understand, and appreciate meaningful music. God bless you, and keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing more reactions from you. ❤
I've known this song for years. First off, thank you for letting the message play out. Its is so much more impactful to hear this one through. Your observation and impression was spot on!! B & D are yes very faithful men. The song and video creation should be very inspirational to all.
Nice job on expressing your reaction I believe because I’ve witnessed God’s power in my life so this song chokes me up every time. I was dying of alcoholism & drug addiction at the age of 30 & couldn’t stop. So I got on my knees & begged God for help. That was 34 years ago & I’ve never had a desire for booze or drugs since. When people ask me if I’m proud, I tell them I haven’t done anything but ask God for help. So I’m grateful, not proud🙏✝️
Ronnie Dunn, sang the story of his real life in song. The old gentleman was his neighbor growing up and served as a role model for Ronnie. When the old man died it hit Ronnie very hard. Ronnie still has the old man's Bible. I have heard that Ronnie inherited his farm and still owns it today as the old man had no living family left. It's a powerful song about a great old man who guided and shaped the man Ronnie became.
Ronnie Dunn the vocalist in this song is a believer. He attended Abilene Christian university and while in college he served as a music and youth minister at Avoca Baptist Church in Avoca, Texas.
Before he began his singing career professionally, Ronnie Dunn was a youth pastor in his church and had thought he would go into the ministry. I think he would have made a fantastic preacher, but I’m glad he chose a singing career.
I’m 32, i remember listening to this on CMT when i was 13 or and crying as a kid. Understanding how wrenching the story was. I use to rewatch when my dad wasn’t home so he wouldn’t see me crying lol. Brooks and Dunn is the greatest.
From the moment Ronnie started singing, I could clearly see how this song grabbed you. And yes, Ronnie has very strong faith. While the story isn't from his past, it is a true story, and he is the narrator .
What a wonderful reaction to one of my favorite Brooks & Dunn videos! Your response & comments hit the nail on the head . . . you really "got it"! Too many other reactors in your generation simply didn't grasp the Bible reference, which is so sad. Faith in God & our fellow man seems to be disappearing. Bless you!
This is a true story about Ronnie Dunn experienced with his neighbor. Ronnie is the vocalist. THIS is more than a song that was written. It was real life and memories put to music and passed on so others mat believe too!
Very astute observations about this song. Ronnie Dunn the singer, indeed had studied one time to become a minister before finding his passion. That said I attended my first concert when I was 10 with my parents in the earl 70's & have been going to shows ever since. I have seen Brooks & Dunn many times & hands down, they are in my personal top 3 live shows of all time, ANY genre of music.
Ronnie Dunn is the singer and Kix Brooks is the guitar man,,, My first time hearing this it brought me to tear...They both sing and they both play the guitar. They've both have been around a while and I love just about everything they put our They have another song that is called "Holy War" that is a more upbeat Gospel" song. They separated for a few years and have recently got back together and were seen singing at Toby Keith's memorial with many other country artists. If you have a chance listen to Toby's song "Don't let the old man in". I loved your reaction's to their music and I've watched 3 other versions of shows like this one and the reactions brought all to tears. I would love to see a city pull out all the stops and put together a bunch of songs like these for a large community..... different churches all invited and have like a huge block coming together we all need to know that we have each others backs. The world's gone crazy. THANK YOU!
Well for me, this was a really good review. (If your eyes had welled-up, it would be a perfect reaction). 😉 Personally, I really liked the way you listened carefully to the song and let it play all the way through before you gave your opinion. The aspects you pointed out were wonderful. Commenting on the singers voice, the characters feelings, explaining the "words in red". Well done! 👏👏👏
What a wonderful reaction.. I appreciated your insightful & honest words regarding critical thinking skills, being intellectually honest, the need for encouragement. I love Brooks & Dunn, & this song esp.! Tysm for your encouraging reaction, you have a new subscriber.. May you & yours have a blessed new year!😊
I’m so impressed by your reaction to this song. A lot of people don’t really listen to the lyrics in it. So God bless you. Hope you have a wonderful New Year’s Eve.
You just reacted to a song from country royalty! Brooks and Dunn also won the Country Music Association Vocal Duo of the Year award every year between 1992 and 2006, except for 2000. Two of their songs won the Grammy Award for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal: "Hard Workin' Man" in 1994 and "My Maria" in 1996.

Whew!! This song always makes me feel like I just walked out of an extremely spirited church service! I believe! Amen!
I love when younger generations find the gold in the previous generation. My generation, Color, doesn't matter. Love matters !!!!!
This is what we call country soul, if this does not touch your heart and soul, then there is something very wrong with you.
This is the last song i played at my wife's funeral she believed and i still do..
One of the most beautiful, and heart felt songs of faith in God ever. And to make a video, adds even more impact to it. Yes sir, I believe. Do you?
True Story. The singer became a believer because of the old man his friend❤ Beautiful tribute to that sweet man❤
It’s not true they said in an interview it was just a song Ronnie Dunn was a youth director before he was a singer.
Ronnie Dunn can sing and bring you deep into your feelings. Great song. Country/Church Soul. Thanks for the hard work and significant reactions.!.
The lead singer is Ronnie Dunn , he wrote this song from memories of his childhood memories ❤❤😢
Brooks was on the guitar and Dunn was singing and it is his story, of growing up. To be able to open yourself up like that and sing like that, that's true belief in his voice, and it's beautiful!!
Absolutely GREAT song and performance. Yes, Ronny Dunn is a believer in Christ Jesus.
Country music can tell you a whole story in 3 to 5 minutes! Pure genius 💜👵🏼✌🏼
Listen to his voice telling this story...MAGICAL. ❤❤
LOVE Brooks & Dunn !!! This one always makes me cry

@@glennmiller3229 I think it's more romantic or something in people's minds. It's definitely not his life story. A quick Google will let them know.

From my understanding this old man brought Ronnie to believe in Jesus. Love this song!❤
That song sends a message of how children do not see color! In this world we are all Gods children! AMEN!!! God bless you!
It's sad not every child is raised listening to music like this because I am a country woman and this is a true story.
This song always gives me goosebumps!
I’m so impressed by your reaction to this song. A lot of people don’t really listen to the lyrics in it. So God bless you. Hope you have a wonderful New Year’s Eve.
