My dad was a Marine. My brother too. I was in the Army and served during Desert Shield/Storm. My brother was killed in a terrorist attack, and is buried at Arlington. It is a peaceful, beautiful place, but the thousands of white crosses are heartbreaking. RIP Billy.
My grandfather fought in WWII at Iwo Jima. He passed away 20 years ago and was offered interment at Arlington as he made preparations for his passing a few weeks before, but he chose to be by his wife, my grandmother, who preceded him in death by a few years. I know how much Arlington means, but it was also really inspiring to hear him say he just wanted to lay beside the only woman he ever loved for all eternity. No one even thought to try and talk him out of it. He still had an amazing service, God bless the active duty Marines who came to honor him.
My grandfather was a WW2 veteran, he told me when I was teenager he said "I gave my today's for your tomorrow's." I live that to this day, and joined. Freedom isn't free.
Trace Adkins said he rarely sings this in concert because he doesn't want the song to be disrespected. Such a wonderful tribute. Arlington Cemetery is an amazing place.

My grandpa, who passed in 2014, served in the Vietnam while in the Army, Panama, Desert Storm and Operation Uphold Democracy in Haiti while in the National Guard, and as a civilian contractor he went to Iraq and Kuwait. He was also Purple Heart recipient(meaning he was wounded in combat for those who aren't American or don't know) from his time in Vietnam. Because of his service he is buried at Arlington. I went with my family and saw the ceremony, he got the 21 gun salute and everything. We also saw the Tomb of the Unknown soldier, my family saw the changing of the guard, I was sick that day so I didn't. It was a bittersweet trip for the lack of a better term. Miss you Papa.
My brother, John, was a door gunner on a helicopter in the Vietnam war. His helicopter crew saved six men from an Air Force C1 30, that went down an enemy territory. He was not recognized for the heroism at the time, but received the Silver Star, 45 years to the day after the rescue. He will be buried in Arlington Cemetery. Only the highest decorated soldiers go to Arlington.

It's ironic that it's peaceful. Considering it's in Northern Virginia, and started on land seized from General Robert E Lee. Lincoln during the Civil War. With Virginia's laws, living in a veneration in a crime.

My Dad and all of my uncles served in WWII. Two did not make it back, and I never met them. They are not in Arlington, but close to home. This is so moving.
Interesting fact that not a lot of people know about Arlington Cemetery. Before there was a cemetery, Arlington House was where General Lee (confederate general) lived. During the civil war, he used his house as a Confederate command post. After the North won the war, Lee surrendered to the North, and it was decided (not sure by who) to bury the dead soldiers of the war on Lee’s property so Lee wouldn’t live there anymore. That was the birth of Arlington Cemetery.
Do you honestly believe the Confederate military command post was only a mile or two from the Union capital? The house and lands were occupied by *Union* troops. As a punishment for Confederates the US Government imposed a special property tax. Which had to be paid *in person*, during the war itself. At the time, the property belonged to Mary Custis Lee (not Robert, but his mother), who had abandoned the house after her nephew warned her Union troops were coming to seize it. Mary Lee was elderly and infirm, certainly in no shape to cross the combat lines to pay the tax, so the government bought it at a tax auction. It was not until 70 or so years later the courts compelled the government to compensate the Lee family fully for taking the property since they occupied it *before* buying it. Which effectively meant Mary Lee had been forced to quarter soldiers in her home (even though she wasn't there) and that is unconstitutional.
We were there again last summer, and it never fails to be an emotional experience. My dad bought in WW2. but we were blessed because he came home. I love Trace, and he often sings at the annual Memorial Day concert in Washington. He has a couple more you should hear. I think one is called The Empty Chair(?). Anyway, I am glad you heard this, and that Carol has "met" Trace Adkins. Love you both.❤
Sweet Carol, never feel you have to hold your tears back. For many of us the tears are flowing too. One of my favorite quotes, “There is a sacredness in tears. They are not a mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition and of unspeakable love.” ― Washington Irving Beautiful song.
Carol, you're doing great. I cry at almost any song about the soldiers, any story because my heart breaks. I only know what Eddie and his buddies revealed and sometimes I crash because it's something I never knew. I picture him and I lose it. You have a tender heart and I respect that so much. Thank you.
This was my first time hearing this song, and I know that both Carol and I ( and dare I say Recky too) should have had a box of tissues handy! The song is so very moving and heart wrenching... I love the fact that while 'some" young ones (both in age or maturity) wouldn't appreciate this song, ordinary people just like us who live in other countries, can so easily identify with the emotions expressed.
I live in Indianapolis which is home to Crown Hill Cemetery which is one of the largest cemeteries in the country and has a huge military section dating back to before the civil war. It is very moving seeing all those soldiers. I will get to Arlington one day. It’s on my bucket list.
Trace is a good dude, in real life. Funny too. I'm trying to make a comment without crying. DID you you do Aaron Tippin yet?,"Stars and Stripes & the Eagle Flys"? Just asking.....
as an american i cry every time i hear it, and tears were running down my face as i watched her - not even an american - wiping her tears away. thank you for the song and your very respectful reaction.

My father was a World War II veteran who served the United States Armed Forces in the Far East (USAFFE). He survived the Bataan Death March in the Philippines. Although he was buried at Santa Fe Veteran's Cemetery, his name is included in the Pacific Veterans Wall at Arlington National Cemetery. When we immigrated to the US, my brother and I served in the US Navy and my sister served in the US Air Force. Both my sons and two nephews served in the US Navy, a niece served as an officer in the US Army, and another nephew served in the US Air Force. Serving was our way of thanking and giving back to this great country who welcomed us in her arms.
Good Evening Recky and Carol. Love You My Dear Faraway Friends. This song touches so many, many hearts.Sorry, I'm unable to help support your channel. I live on disability. I'll always give you a like. Love From Michigan and it's a Beautiful Evening ❤❤ Thank you so much for reacting to this video ❤❤
I'm an American daughter of a Swedish father.... thank you for showing all the emotion! I know how hard it is for my father to let the inside truth show outwardly, and I also often struggle with traditional Swedish stoicism. A visit to Arlington can be overwhelming for anyone, even without family buried under one of those white stones.
For all that sacrificed their lives for our freedoms this ex vet salutes you all and rest in peace. I for one am thankful for your dedication perseverance and patriotism unlike all of those that has passed I was fortunate to serve during peace time. GOD BLESS!!!!
Everyone should visit Arlington. The rows and rows of white markers is so moving. Beautifully sad but makes your heart swell with pride. My grandfather rested in a foreign grave in France for about 5 years until he was exhumed and brought home to Texas. He was killed in WW2. All the graves on foreign lands, graves at sea, graves in family plots and military cemeteries and there is Arlington. It's mind boggling and very humbling, the sacrifices made for our Freedom. All gave some, but some gave all.
To all the men and women in the military that made the ultimate sacrifice to keep us free I thank you and may you rest in peace. For the family members that have suffered a tragic loss May God Bless You.
Recky----you are so right---no matter what country you come from---if you stand for the "right" reason and give the ultimate sacrifice ----you ARE a hero and deserve respect. I wish we still could say the Pledge of Allegiance in schools like we used to.
I love the way many of our US entertainers honor the veterans, in song and film. Makes me so proud! I am just a tiny bit Swedish, only 7% according to Ancestry, but my son-in-law, (who looks much like Recky) was more than 50% and his daughter, my granddaughter has those Swedish good looks, hair, eyes and complexion.
Thank you for watching this. My great-uncle flew rescue missions behind German lines during WWII, and he is laid to rest in Arlington. My father-in-law served in 8 theatres of war and is also laid to rest there. Arlington is a sacred place because without those men, we wouldn't be free.
There are several other national cemeteries throughout the U.S. There are two that I know of in my state of Kentucky. The closest one to us is Camp Nelson National Cemetery. The oldest part has soldiers from the American Civil War. My dad, mom, uncle, aunt, father in law, and cousin are all buried there. My mom and aunt did not serve, but as the spouse of service members they can be buried with the service member.
I love this song. It is sung from the viewpoint of a soldier, killed in battle and buried at Arlington National Cemetery. It was inspired by United States Marine Corps Corporal Patrick Nixon, who died in battle in 2003. To be eligible to be buried at Arlington, the soldier should have received certain military decorations , such as the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Distinguished Service Medal, Silver Star, or Purple Heart.
I have been to Washington DC and have been to Arlington Cemetery, and I am glad that you respect our fallen soldiers .I respect your countries sacrifices for our world to have the freedom that we have today. ❤

@@MGower4465 thank you
We were there again last summer, and it never fails to be an emotional experience. Love you both.❤
My moms parents are buried at Arlington national cemetery. My grand pa was in the navy during WW2
Thank you for your showing respect for our fallen soldiers. All who espouse freedom can understand this message.
You should check out Radney Foster's 'Angel Flight' - but have your tissues close by. I can't hear it without crying so hard.
I cry every time too!
Another good song to react to is "If you're reading this" by Tim Mcgraw
Sweet Carol, never feel you have to hold your tears back. For many of us the tears are flowing too. One of my favorite quotes, “There is a sacredness in tears. They are not a mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition and of unspeakable love.”
― Washington Irving
Beautiful song.
Thank you for watching. I knew you both would appreciate the depth of it! Much 😘❤
Carol, you're doing great.
Incredible song and amazing artist, thank you Trace
I live in Indianapolis which is home to Crown Hill Cemetery which is one of the largest cemeteries in the country and has a huge military section dating back to before the civil war. It is very moving seeing all those soldiers. I will get to Arlington one day. It’s on my bucket list.
Trace is a good dude, in real life. Funny too. I'm trying to make a comment without crying. DID you you do Aaron Tippin yet?,"Stars and Stripes & the Eagle Flys"? Just asking.....
No we didnt, need to check it out!
I didn't make it.......
Blessings, love & respect to you both... thank you for your appreciation!
This song makes me tear up.

Thank you for your respect and perspective. All soldiers from all lands that support freedom and peaceful existence deserve this respect. God bless.

This was sung in Arlington Chaple for my friend before he was laid to rest. Beautiful Song.
Your heart needs to feel these things to really be full. Thank you for your touching reaction! Love from Michigan.
Deb
To walk the fields of Arlington, Gettysburg, or Flanders is utterly humbling. Thank you for your care and respect.
Thanks you for these patriotic videos about our America 🇺🇸 may we always be free!
I have an uncle buried there. I was named after him. I cry every time I hear it. Thank you.
I agree. It doesn't matter what part of the world you live, some family somewhere lost a loved one.
A beautiful song I don't remember hearing this one thank you for sharing. Love you guys
When you visit Arlington tears run down your cheeks before you realize it. ❤️💙🥲🇺🇸
Wow. That was a tough one. I had the privilege of visiting Arlington when at age 15. Even at that young age it was very moving.
Recky and Carol, Thank you for caring.
Great song❤
Thank you for your heartfelt reaction!!! I appreciate you both and love your channel! 🤠
The feelings that you feel at Arlington. You just can't put it into words. Thank you for your service.
Glad you liked it. I have family still in Sweden .
I have been to Washington DC and have been to Arlington Cemetery, and I am glad that you respect our fallen soldiers .I respect your countries sacrifices for our world to have the freedom that we have today. ❤
This was my 1st time hearing it my eyes are a cloudy mess.
Freedom is never free. We all have to be to go all the way for what is most important.
I got the same thing in my eyes too
