  • I’ve been to some of Thailands BEST Street Food night markets - Jodd Fairs, Chatuchak, Chiang Mai’s Sunday night market - but I didn’t expect to find one just as good as all of those in Kanchanaburi, Thailand!
    Kanchanaburi’s JJ Market shares a name with its Bangkok counterpart, and whilst not as big, it is FULL of amazing street food delights. Western Thailand Street Food is awesome!
    We try Green Curry, Churros, Pad Kra Pow, and of course... we speak about Milli at Coachella before having some Mango Sticky Rice!

    Indeed we have to eat spicy curries with extra noodles and/or white jasmine rice to divert the spiciness. I would also buy a sweet dessert to eat right away to balance the spiciness. I think Kanchanaburi night market is very much like a true traditional Thai cultural food market.

    • @josieliftsthings
      @josieliftsthings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahhh so we needed the rice with it! That makes sense! I had some churro things and mango sticky rice and it certainly helped! 😂
      I LOVED that night market. I think it was so local to me, traditional is a great way to put it. I had lots of looks with my camera 😂 amazing experience!

    I think you just had green curry with chicken. Normally, you would eat this with rice or rice noodles. It is too strong to eat the curry by itself as Thai curry is not considered soup but an entree in itself. The rice/noodles tones down the flavor, balancing it out. Another interesting point is for some reason, perhaps the heat/climate in Thailand, makes all the chili peppers there extra spicy in food compared to eating Thai food outside of Thailand.

  • @themasterflexG
    @themasterflexG 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That’s khanom jeen (rice noodle). You have them with spicy curry or soup of your choice (each region has their own specialty pairing), usually top with fresh veggies. In the northeast we also eat it as a side to som tam (spicy papaya salad).
    Green curry is usually not considered one of the spicy food among Thais but it’s definitely a spicy curry for sure.

    • @josieliftsthings
      @josieliftsthings  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ohh rice noodle! that makes sense! haha, we got to put the veggies on top but it was a little spicy for me 😂 I have had spicier here for sure!! 😂

  • @maki3953
    @maki3953 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    The white noodle you have just eaten in the local market is called “Kanom-jeen” or Thai vermicelli eaten with curry. They usually eat the noodle with curry depending on regions area such as chicken green curry , red curry plate with fish in the south , so many version of curry 99 % will taste spicy just only a few version of sweet curry. However, Kanom-jeen is one of my fevorite. Enjoy your trip.

    G’day Josie & Michael.. as many commentators have already stated, the dish is called “khanom jeen kaeng keow waarn” or green curry with a sort of soft textured rice noodle..This particular type of rice noodles are often also eaten with “ som tum pla ra” or papaya salad in a fermented fish paste like substance..I wouldn’t typically recommend it to you, Josie because it’s pretty spicy & a tad on the stinky side lol..however, Michael.. if your feeling adventurous.. you could give it a go!

    • @josieliftsthings

      @@josieliftsthings That would be Mai - Sai - Prik (Don't put chilly).... Actually, in case of Mai - Ped, an apple to apple translation would be No Spicy. Therefore, by commonsense, the chefs shouldn't add any chilli. However, No Spicy for Thai standard still maintain some level of spiciness.

    in the bowl is Rice Noodle with curry in Thai name call "ขนมจีน" (Ka-Nom-Jeen).
    You can eat it with a 4 style of curry. as
    Central style : the taste not too spicy. It is made mainly in coconut milk curry.
    North style : the taste a little spicy and sour. It is made mainly in clear curry.
    Northeast style : the taste a spicy.
    Southern style : the taste is very hot and spicy.
    all of style must be eaten with fresh vegetables.

    Hi Josie - Language tip : if you add the word "Ka" at the end of what you are saying, it will add extra politeness and show respect to the people you are talking to. For example, when you said "Chai" try "Chai-ka". It's comparable to "Yes" and "Yes please". It would make you even sweeter :). Love your vid as always !

    • @josieliftsthings
      @josieliftsthings  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I just cut it out of the edit and also when I was talking I had said it maybe 3-4 times before that so just said ka instead of the whole thing. People in stores who serve me usually smile and giggle when I said chai, ka 😂 Not many people must say it!! 😂
