This game is a physics based platformer. And the story is, there is this sad old woman, and Yarnee doesn't want her sad, so he embarks off on a journey to find trinkets of good memories to make her happy the whole yarn thing is to tie into the red string of fate and how we're all connected through memories or things by this string. The hidden meaning behind this game and the platforming is fun and challenging. Puzzles were actually very straight forward. This is pretty much 4.5/5 in my opinion.
This game affected me a lot. I live in Sweden and I really love Sweden so I could really see my own childhood in this game. Everything touched me. I am in my teens rn and this game made me think of what i want my children to experience in there childhood. This game also made me think about the purpose of life and family. And how important family really is. Wow I just can’t express my love for this game’s beauty, both the graphics and soundtrack but also the story and the depth. So i just want say that i am so glad i discovered this game and i really recommend it, especially people from Sverige🇸🇪

from what I remember the story is somewhat ironic in that it's a video game telling you to go out and enjoy the finer things in life whilst they're still there (the irony being that it's hard to do whilst i'm sat indoors playing a video game) I really liked this game though and found it to be incredibly heartwarming, though it is worth mentioning that the game does have a dark section but like with a good majority of Disney movies nobody ever remembers the dark stuff too much
I thought this game was fantastic. The story is a little open ended and really leaves the player to interpret what it all means but I think that is the point since it revolves around family and growing up with the good times and the bad, it leaves the player reminded of his or her own personal memories about family and in some respects makes you want to reconnect with your siblings or parents and reminisce about old times. There is a lot of emotion throughout this game that is brought forth by both the visuals and the sound track, however the music can get a little annoying at times as there is a set score for each level. The puzzles are not extremely difficult and simply require a little out of the box thinking, most often they are more simple than you assume but you find yourself overthinking them and end up smacking yourself in the head while saying "DUH". Collectibles in the game however can be quite challenging as some require some really intense timing to pull off and for most people there will be quite a few "F#*% that" moments. I found myself muttering "Brilliant" to myself quite a few times while playing this game, and that was very refreshing since coming from a small Indie team. You can really see the difference passion makes in creating a game rather than what we see from the big name developers that pretty much only code for sales alone. I highly recommend getting this game, and at a price tag of $20 you really can't go wrong.
Just finished it. I really enjoyed it, such a beautiful game with amazing music and a very smooth gameplay. A very relaxing and satisfying game. Congrats to the team that made this.

This takes place in Umeå i belive, one of the major river Cities/County's in northern sweden. Umeå, Skellefteå, Piteå, Luleå, Töre, Kalix, Haparanda/Torneå.
wow I felt completely different about this game then a lot of people. maybe that's because a lot of the environments and pictures reminded me of my life growing up in Montana. the game really touched me in a phenomenal way. the theme was really thought provoking and I even got goosebumps a few times (or watery eyes)... it's like the game was written for me. every chapter and level a representation of how my own life has gone such as the family, friendship, leaving home and your best friend behind, losing a loved one, etc. the music was probably my favorite part of the game and was surprised that this review barely touched on it! music can speak to our very souls and the game is worth playing through just for the music alone. "that being said" thanks for the review. lol.
I think... If you're Swedish/Scandinavian and playing this game, in some way can relate to the environment. Me personally have this sentimental feeling, thinking about my childhood, playing with friends in the forest and go swimming in the summer. And with the music, it becomes... Magical.
This game is not happy. The story goes like this: The old woman you see in the game had dementia and can't remember her past (mostly childhood), this is why the book has blurred pictures, they're memories. Yarny's job is to collect the memories and to help her to remember. This game (other than 'That Dragon, Cancer') is the only game that has made me cry (multiple times) as her story ls very similar to mine (not the dementia though). Not being able to solve a puzzle in a game used to be shit but nowadays you don't get stuck anymore because when you're really too dumb you can just check out the solution in a walkthrough on your phone real quick. With all these beautiful platformers in the last years this genre is really becoming a favourite
I stumbled across this game and paid £6 for both games in a bundle. The best way to sum it up is a 'bipolar of little nightmares' and was i surprised by the quality of this game. If, like me, you like depth to anything you get your teeth in to, you'll love this. Like little nightmares and A plague tale, the substance comes from the universe more than the game play and it's one of those games that'll pluck on your heartstrings. Full of character, challenging for anyone of any age and an absolute pleasure to play.

honestly I love the game and the idea of it also I love how much passion for the game the developer has and the the graphics are awesome to me so I give it a 4.5
It's a 9/10 to me and it has some warm humane messages within its levels in a great, non-spoken story. I still think Limbo is the best in that matter, unmechanical as second with. Leo's fortune is another nice pick if you like the ones I mentioned. I enjoyed Unravel but it was still not as hard/varied as Unmechanical nor Limbo, but the story is more decorated in compare.

This is my first "Before you buy" video I've watched just because at E3 the dev's of this game seemed very sincere and you could see that they were really excited, but also new. I liked the vid and also wouldn't want to give them a free pass just because of their sincerity and being new, but I'd give them a bit more space for things to be wrong. Reason being that for a indie game ported over by 1 guy "Dust" was a great game. It got great reviews but I didn't see much talk about it on websites. So I won't expect this to be a 100% game right off the bat for their first game (Is this correct?), but rather give them a fighting chance. What I DO expect is that it won't have a many bugs/glitches as some AAA titles out there these days.
I actually really like this game. You really have to work together, and the visuals are amazing. It’s worth your money. Oh and there is nothing wrong with the spawnpoints, you don’t have to do a whole part again... I would give it an 8/10.
I got this game for my birthday and played through it on my PS4, I can't remember how long it took me but I think it was around 2 weeks. I loved the gameplay, the soundtrack and yarns the character, the levels are absolutely stunning and so beautiful, I was mesmerised by this game, although I found it frustrating at times, it's an amazing game, I would recommend it 100%. 4.5/5 excellent game! So actually unravel is a pretty dark story, especially unravel 2. Unravel is not that dark, but the story is a grandmother or mother has lost her memory of her grandchildren or children and they might be oofed even, we don’t know. But the goal is to collect and bring back all the memories to the lady.
I actually do enjoy this game a lot but you need to be in the mood to relax and think. And knowing the creators were so into making it and even start the game with a thank you message, have to support them.

I think you guys should also announce if it's worth the full price tag or not because that's kind of essential nowadays with all these $60 games coming out.
I bought unravel on release day and I was BLASTED! The environment looks soooo good and music fills in very nice aswell. yeah sure its no Super Mario World but all in all its a very solid platformer with gorgeous grafix and an amazingly cute character. 8/10 - would recommend without hesitation
I just started this game and got past the first 2 levels. It's such a relaxing game for the most part until the puzzles become unclear. But I find that one of the best parts just because the game is challenging you to think harder and try to realize the resources you have. I'd give this game 9/10

You know... the Origin $5 a month thing is pretty awesome. You can play a bunch of the games (including Unravel) for 10 hours free. And all sales at discount. For $10 in a 2 month Sub, ill have played a bunch of games for free, upgrade to premiums + buy PVZGW2 + NFS and have saved over $20. So it really gets the money back.

I like the game. I find it a great teaching tool to teach my kids logic, problem-solving, and physics. The story is sweet and touching. I enjoyed playing it with my child. The graphics are beautiful and the music soothing. But you are right about one thing, Some of the puzzles are a bit frustrating.
Sooooo i cant help but notice that you didnt mention the idea of the story was based around the red string of faith not only a grandmas story but the metaphorical way her red string traveled
Lots of reviewers were saying sometimes the puzzles were too challenging or unclear but I thought all the puzzles were pretty easy but hard enough to feel rewarding.
I bought it, and the fact that its only 20 dollars, and that it is so gorgeous i was really happy with this game, id recommend it to anyone, i think its great for what it is.
Do people not realise that Unravel is about the story of an old woman that was going through her life and ended up alone with everyone else dead or abandoning her? To prove my point, in the first level we can see a tricycle and a picture of a girl and a tree house. The string character is a representation of her life and how it moved forward through the different scenarios, and I'm sure the levels will eventually get darker as you progress, and may show even multiple deaths as they go along.
I think the story is a personal story of one of the developers. Or atleast that's what it felt like to me. Because it really seems like they want to share their memories with you.
I had the exact same impression, A Happy Limbo. Unfortunately, Limbo is better, but Unravel was still entertaining. However, the main reason i got the game is to tide me over until/if Inside (by Playdead) is released.
I like platformers but when it comes to puzzles it's very hit and miss for me. The story actually seems very simple and heartfelt which I love, but don't want to be blocked by puzzles which seems to be the case for a lot of indie games. Idk...looks like it might piss me off at times which isn't a feeling I want from a game like this.
Yep! Just like Limbo but with a lot more time into a story/graphics. Ive gotta say... I definitely disagree with you on the storyline comment made.... the story was beautiful and at the end (not going to do a spoiler to the ending) the game really captured the feeling of the hardships of growing older and feeling alone/helpless and in pain perfectly. Even though the story was told by what you experienced in the game and with the photos- it really captured the story of life and it's ups and downs. This game is great for new or experienced gamers. if you have the patience for the strategy and the puzzels, you will easily find a reason to love this game. if you like beautiful graphics and a story that anyone can understand and relate to, you will want to experience what these developer's created. I do agree sometimes some of the levels took FOR EVERYONE to crack..... but still... I have no regrets with this purchase. ♡♡♡♡♡♡
just got this for $5 on the PS store sale. it seems like a good game to play in between all the shooters/rgs/surival horror/etc. out there. Not enough original platformers.
This game is an absolute masterpiece and especially if u like side scrolling puzzlers or games like limbo, except this game warms ur fucking heart it is amazing and I think the puzzles were very creative, fun and sometimes very challenging but that's what made this game so good 10/10 game definitely would recommend and rn it's like 4$ on psn
The game’s story is very much up to how you intrepret it. I think it was brilliant, but of course it was brilliant for me as the way i intrepreted the story. For other people might not be as great because people view things from different standpoints which affects the way you intrepret the story. Great game, gameplay and story wise, I bought it just now because it was on discount on the ps store. Even in 2022 it is comparable graphic wise to modern triple a titles, and gameplay wise to some of the newer puzzle platformer games. 5/5, you should buy it.

EA hasn't been that bad lately (with then exception of Battlefront) Garden warfare was a solid game and the sequel coming out later this month looks even better. So maybe EA is finally getting it together.
Me personally I would give it a 4.7/5 I love everything about this game and the fact that you can interpret the story in different ways. But is a little vague on what is happening. one level your in a front yard all happy and then the next you are in a in a storm by a toxic waste dump.

It's a 9/10 to me and it has some warm humane messages within its levels in a great, non-spoken story. I still think Limbo is the best in that matter, unmechanical as second with. Leo's fortune is another nice pick if you like the ones I mentioned. I enjoyed Unravel but it was still not as hard/varied as Unmechanical nor Limbo, but the story is more decorated in compare.

This is my first "Before you buy" video I've watched just because at E3 the dev's of this game seemed very sincere and you could see that they were really excited, but also new.
I liked the vid and also wouldn't want to give them a free pass just because of their sincerity and being new, but I'd give them a bit more space for things to be wrong.
Reason being that for a indie game ported over by 1 guy "Dust" was a great game. It got great reviews but I didn't see much talk about it on websites.
So I won't expect this to be a 100% game right off the bat for their first game (Is this correct?), but rather give them a fighting chance. What I DO expect is that it won't have a many bugs/glitches as some AAA titles out there these days.
There's a petition to get this released on disc. Everyone go sign it. You don't want to pay $20 just to borrow a stream of 1s and 0s, do you?
I actually really like this game. You really have to work together, and the visuals are amazing. It’s worth your money. Oh and there is nothing wrong with the spawnpoints, you don’t have to do a whole part again... I would give it an 8/10.
I got this game for my birthday and played through it on my PS4, I can't remember how long it took me but I think it was around 2 weeks. I loved the gameplay, the soundtrack and yarns the character, the levels are absolutely stunning and so beautiful, I was mesmerised by this game, although I found it frustrating at times, it's an amazing game, I would recommend it 100%. 4.5/5 excellent game! So actually unravel is a pretty dark story, especially unravel 2. Unravel is not that dark, but the story is a grandmother or mother has lost her memory of her grandchildren or children and they might be oofed even, we don’t know. But the goal is to collect and bring back all the memories to the lady.
I actually do enjoy this game a lot but you need to be in the mood to relax and think. And knowing the creators were so into making it and even start the game with a thank you message, have to support them.
I know this is 2 years old but I just got it for 8 dollars on ps4. Great game for the kids and I honestly had fun especially for less than ten dollars

The environment looks soooo good and music fills in very nice aswell.
yeah sure its no Super Mario World but all in all its a very solid platformer with gorgeous grafix and an amazingly cute character.

I just started this game and got past the first 2 levels. It's such a relaxing game for the most part until the puzzles become unclear. But I find that one of the best parts just because the game is challenging you to think harder and try to realize the resources you have. I'd give this game 9/10

You know... the Origin $5 a month thing is pretty awesome. You can play a bunch of the games (including Unravel) for 10 hours free. And all sales at discount. For $10 in a 2 month Sub, ill have played a bunch of games for free, upgrade to premiums + buy PVZGW2 + NFS and have saved over $20. So it really gets the money back.

I like the game. I find it a great teaching tool to teach my kids logic, problem-solving, and physics. The story is sweet and touching. I enjoyed playing it with my child. The graphics are beautiful and the music soothing. But you are right about one thing, Some of the puzzles are a bit frustrating.

Lots of reviewers were saying sometimes the puzzles were too challenging or unclear but I thought all the puzzles were pretty easy but hard enough to feel rewarding.

Do people not realise that Unravel is about the story of an old woman that was going through her life and ended up alone with everyone else dead or abandoning her? To prove my point, in the first level we can see a tricycle and a picture of a girl and a tree house. The string character is a representation of her life and how it moved forward through the different scenarios, and I'm sure the levels will eventually get darker as you progress, and may show even multiple deaths as they go along.
I think the story is a personal story of one of the developers. Or atleast that's what it felt like to me. Because it really seems like they want to share their memories with you.
This game is like Limbo and Little Big Planet made a baby. It's a really awesome game and I highly recommend you play it if you have the means.

I had the exact same impression, A Happy Limbo. Unfortunately, Limbo is better, but Unravel was still entertaining. However, the main reason i got the game is to tide me over until/if Inside (by Playdead) is released.

I like platformers but when it comes to puzzles it's very hit and miss for me. The story actually seems very simple and heartfelt which I love, but don't want to be blocked by puzzles which seems to be the case for a lot of indie games. Idk...looks like it might piss me off at times which isn't a feeling I want from a game like this.

Yep! Just like Limbo but with a lot more time into a story/graphics. Ive gotta say... I definitely disagree with you on the storyline comment made.... the story was beautiful and at the end (not going to do a spoiler to the ending) the game really captured the feeling of the hardships of growing older and feeling alone/helpless and in pain perfectly. Even though the story was told by what you experienced in the game and with the photos- it really captured the story of life and it's ups and downs. This game is great for new or experienced gamers. if you have the patience for the strategy and the puzzels, you will easily find a reason to love this game. if you like beautiful graphics and a story that anyone can understand and relate to, you will want to experience what these developer's created. I do agree sometimes some of the levels took FOR EVERYONE to crack..... but still... I have no regrets with this purchase. ♡♡♡♡♡♡

This game is an absolute masterpiece and especially if u like side scrolling puzzlers or games like limbo, except this game warms ur fucking heart it is amazing and I think the puzzles were very creative, fun and sometimes very challenging but that's what made this game so good 10/10 game definitely would recommend and rn it's like 4$ on psn

The game’s story is very much up to how you intrepret it. I think it was brilliant, but of course it was brilliant for me as the way i intrepreted the story. For other people might not be as great because people view things from different standpoints which affects the way you intrepret the story. Great game, gameplay and story wise, I bought it just now because it was on discount on the ps store. Even in 2022 it is comparable graphic wise to modern triple a titles, and gameplay wise to some of the newer puzzle platformer games. 5/5, you should buy it.

The fact that this is published by EA of all companies is honestly what has surprised me the most.
EA hasn't been that bad lately (with then exception of Battlefront) Garden warfare was a solid game and the sequel coming out later this month looks even better. So maybe EA is finally getting it together.

Me personally I would give it a 4.7/5 I love everything about this game and the fact that you can interpret the story in different ways. But is a little vague on what is happening. one level your in a front yard all happy and then the next you are in a in a storm by a toxic waste dump.

Just finished the game, pretty straight forward. The graphics are phenomenal.
for me the game gets 90% its perfect even tho it can be hard as fax its a fun and challenging game for me 2018 after christmas i got both games unravel and unravel 2 still playing the first but cant wait to finish playing and getting into the 2nd

I’ve just completed Creaks. It was such a great puzzle game. So, so relaxing. I’m now looking for the next game to play (played Machinarium) on PS4. Thinking of giving this game a whirl, but I get the sense that it’s maybe more frustrating than relaxing?
