Cant wait for him to find the secret map items to unlock the secret pie trail and find the hidden jojo reference with the evolved knife thrower, followed by him using the knife thrower to kill the “planned skeleton moon” to unlock the forbidden scroll to get the ghost that has the pigeon.
Vampire survivors is one of these weird indie games that instantly hooks you. I was not expecting to spend 80 hrs in it for sure. Fully upgraded bible and garlic are my go to for staying alive til the later rounds.
This game really feels like a 2D Castlevania Warriors. I grew up loving Castlevania, and it's neat to see how much inspiration this game shows with weapons and enemies
It's one of those rare games where the existence of achievements makes it EASIER to stop. For most games you're done and then you grind 20 more hours to complete inane achievements, in VS you feel at piece when you get 100% achievements. After that, we can rest.
This game - and the entire genre as a whole, really - is just pure seratonins and dopamines all the time, and it's truly amazing. The gameplay loop is just so rewarding for so many of the games in the genre, at least the good ones. Obviously there's also a LOT of garbage out there at this point, trying to cash in, but even many of those are at least still somewhat fun for a short time at least.
@@DevilJhoMama i have done solo weapon runs and run each character in all dlc. garlic is horrible for late game stuff. most other weapons don't even allow the enemies to get to you, so healing is useless. when the weapons are so big that you can't see the level anymore you are safe.
@briannelson27 yeah it's not strong enough to kill everything, but it is strong enough to keep you alive as long as you have another source of damage. It's especially powerful when paired with the evolved whip and or evolved bible.
I was just about to reference his addiction to idle breakout but just as I was about to do so, Kevin did. Good on you Kevin, recognizing it’s an addiction is the first step in recovery!
Dang Kevin is legitimately a philosopher, out here reinventing the Paradox of the Heap "If I heard someone died to three bats I'd say 'how did that even happen' but if I heard they died to like a thousand bats 'that's horrific and I don't know where the line is"
knowing just how addictive this game is first hand I would not be shocked to find out Kevin logged 270 hours just to give us these 27 minutes of content.. it's like digital crack 🤣
Bible + Garlic is actually a really good combo. Like all weapons, you have to level them up before they really come into their own, but at max level you should have multiple Bibles near constantly orbiting around you. Garlic is great for the early game as it just melts through the weaker enemies, but the damage doesn't keep up against stronger enemies. But the Garlic also increases knockback, so the combination of Bible + Garlic is actually really good at keeping enemies away from you. Other than that, you need to get a weapon that can heal you, which at this point means evolving the right weapon. Purchase upgrades and grind out those unlocks and you'll get more options opening up. Also, Empty Tome is one of the strongest passive items.
@@davidrosensin7985 La Borra used to be the most OP thing with characters that add projectiles on certain levels when I first played it. Plus there are plenty weapons greatly benefitting from AOE.
@@brohvakiindova4452 I'm just saying that there's some stuff you can do in that game that is just pure area denial. If you run 5 weapons things can get out of hand very quickly, but even JUST La Borra can carry.
Yeah eventually once, I had so many bibles orbiting me that it became literally impossible for me to take damage. Wherever I stood, enemies just kept walking into my shield of bibles and dying. That was a fun round.
Just a few tips: Empty Tome, Spinach and Duplicator are amazing. Must haves. Axe can evolve with Candelabrador, Fire Wand can evolve with Spinach and Lightning Ring can evolve with Duplicator. Other than that, you did great for your first runs!

This video convinced me to buy Vampire Survivors. I didn't really know anything about it before, maybe saw a couple screenshots of it but otherwise wouldn't give it the time of day. I'm a HUGE Castlevania fan too, so I appreciate that this game is just drenched in references to the series. It's really fun, and definitely addictive. I had no idea it was so cheap, too! I got it on sale for like a few bucks.
The whip, and subsequently Bloody Tear, is one of the most underrated weapons in the game. I almost never play a round without it, it's basically a guarantee to keep you alive until the 30 minute mark. It's just a question of all your other weapons doing enough damage (and they absolutely can and will).
I'm so addicted to Vampire Survivors that I own almost every Survivor-esque game. Each Survivor-esque game has its own quirks. My two favourites are Hall of Torment and the newly released Pathfinder Gallowspire.

I'm glad you seem a lot more energetic than in some previous videos! I hope you've recovered from whatever was up
I’d watch you play 30 hours of this straight.
It’s hilarious because while watching I went through the same stages as you did.
The video actually made me smile. I was alone. Curled up on the sofa, smiling. One of my favourite videos you’ve done recently, thank you Kevin ❤
^ THis
Did you ever go from the stage of thinking garlic was the only way you can win to never getting garlic ever?
'Curled up' on the sofa smiling sounds sinister
@@bradleymoore2797 Why would you not get garlic? I mean, I personally live my life playing 1 weapon and grabbing Divine Bloodline with the arcana that increases CDR for every empty slot...just on Poe.
Watching Kevin pick up all the worst weapons and items, and never even getting to the second bird that evolves with the pigeon to become a super weapon.
Can't wait to see when he discovers dual guns.
Cant wait for him to find the secret map items to unlock the secret pie trail and find the hidden jojo reference with the evolved knife thrower, followed by him using the knife thrower to kill the “planned skeleton moon” to unlock the forbidden scroll to get the ghost that has the pigeon.
To people who have never played that’s all real btw!
But he hates the bibles and they are super good
@@570y3n the Bible is mid as hell i agree with him
I'm so glad that these rather simple looking games still get so much love in this age of ultra high graphics! They have their own special allure
Vampire survivors brought me back to the indie scene in a big way, I have been trying so many smaller games and loving it.
Watching him die at 29 : 57 was so painful
Vampire survivors is one of these weird indie games that instantly hooks you. I was not expecting to spend 80 hrs in it for sure. Fully upgraded bible and garlic are my go to for staying alive til the later rounds.
Yeah I got the mobile app cause I was board and spent like 120 hours 100% ing it
the duplication power up, plus the duplication ring, plus bony boi, plus max level bible. It will put the fear of god into your enemies.
@robonator2945 it's almost like a cheat code for the game.
This game really feels like a 2D Castlevania Warriors. I grew up loving Castlevania, and it's neat to see how much inspiration this game shows with weapons and enemies
this is the comment I came to find. So much Castlevania in this game.
@@mariahminner1334 I think the early versions even used sprites ripped directly from Castlevania until they were changed for copyright reasons
For me the game can be summed up as, Castlevania meets Gauntlet, with a side of SMASH TV.
Yeah, I immediately got a Trevor/Richter vibe when I saw Antonio.
@astuteanansi4935 I think it was always Ersatz counterparts juiuust legally distinct enough but they upgraded the designs to be more unique
Yeah...I am ashamed to admit this game has taken over 100 hours from my life!
It's just a bit too addictive. XD
But that garlic tho 🤭
Same here. Then I saw that they released it on mobile and them hours went from 100 to 500 since I'm on the train a lot
It's one of those rare games where the existence of achievements makes it EASIER to stop. For most games you're done and then you grind 20 more hours to complete inane achievements, in VS you feel at piece when you get 100% achievements. After that, we can rest.
669.5 hours .... it not that addictive.
I've spent just over 100 hours in Cyberpunk, so that is actually crazy.
Fun fact: the developer is italian, so the game has a TON of italian puns and dumb stuff that you can only understand if you speak italian. Its great
I love how quickly Kevin worked out that Garlic is indeed the best powerup in the game 😂
and the upgraded bible... death-barrier and killing aura for anything that gets PAST that deathshield.
....for the early game. it becomes significantly less great once you get meta progression and some golden eggs
@@briannelson27 it's evolution carries in hyper levels, constant healing especially on miang if you own the dlc.
Dang Kevin is legitimately a philosopher, out here reinventing the Paradox of the Heap
"If I heard someone died to three bats I'd say 'how did that even happen' but if I heard they died to like a thousand bats 'that's horrific and I don't know where the line is"
That sounds like it's closely related to the concept of fuzzy logic. Terrifying to die to that many bats though, RIP
Absolutely based pfp!
@@captaincaspian42 ikr lol
I'd say the limit is around 20 bats.
Oh, bats are one of the biggest cariers of rabies. You only need _one_ bat.
The IRL line for death by bats not embarrassing= 143≥
The mobile version is free, and the only ads are selective for an in-game bonus, after you've died
knowing just how addictive this game is first hand I would not be shocked to find out Kevin logged 270 hours just to give us these 27 minutes of content.. it's like digital crack 🤣
This was a joy to watch. Seeing Kevin figure out how the game works was gold. Thanks for the laughs and the reminder that I have this game.
Add axe since it's powerup req (chandelier) increases area size.
There are some disgusting area denial builds in this game, and I think La Borra (santa water and attractor iirc?) is heavily slept upon.
(turns off game)...thanks...now its 245am. The wife is going to be mad.
My brother doesn't know the power of the laurel.
This was oddly pleasant to watch. I just really loved watching Kevin’s garlic melt through enemies.
Just a few tips: Empty Tome, Spinach and Duplicator are amazing. Must haves. Axe can evolve with Candelabrador, Fire Wand can evolve with Spinach and Lightning Ring can evolve with Duplicator. Other than that, you did great for your first runs!
You are very correct on the addictive nature of this game. It honestly just gets substantially weirder and more addicting as you play.
I cannot be the only one who wants to see another episode of this
i love how this kind of game has been in mobile for years now but when a game like vampire survivors release on pc then it becomes the greatest game ever
I love this game because as soon as you get used to how crazy it is, it gets so much crazier
Remember that time you get your first evolution and you're like "Wait...what?" only to find out every weapon (with a few exceptions) has one?
Always fun to see people play this for the first time. :) Once you find the garlic, you appreciate walking into clouds of bats. No big deal.
this video is a lot like your experience with Vampire survivors, let me explain, I originally thought a video on a game I knew about would be redundant to watch (especially since its vampire survivors, didn't seem like that much fun) but went ahead with it because its a callmekevin video, and now I've spent 20 minutes watching this when I planned to do something else. Great video.
as someone who 100% this game and dlcs, I need more of kevin playing, there's SO MUCH he has yet to see, mechanics, bosses, new weapons and the stupid big roster of characters. Not even mentioning the Randomazzo. Seeing someone new discovering VS brings joy to the heart lmao
I love this game and I eagerly await another vampire survivors video. I love seeing how people fare with games I very much enjoy
Kevin I’m going through a really hard time right now, and I can not really articulate how grateful I am for you and your videos. Thank you.
i love how this popularized an entire genre. My personal favourite is Soulstone Survivors, didn't really hit it off with this one
but as game design go, it's genius. Mixing old and modern gaming tricks to make it addicting
Halls of Torment pretty fun too
@@MrBertie7 Should look into Army of Ruin
Death Must Die seems like the one for me. The genre variety is pretty awesome too, right now
i prefer a little game called holocure
I hate this genre... I grew up playing games that actually looked like this... screw nostalgia... I want realism and graphics.. physics etc
This was a great video Kevin! I would love to see you do a series on this game. There is a metric TON of playable characters, all with their own weapons and abilities. It would be fun to watch you explore this game further.
I was also like this, my dad showed me the game and i was like "Wow, this sucks" And then i proceeded to get addicted to the game and complete every single achievement and level with my dad
Kevin's reactions during this game reminds me of Wheatley from Portal 2
With Kevin now hooked on Vampire Survivors and Holocure being realesed on steam soon, i am looking forward to the almost inevitable day he discovers Holocure.
Does Kev know anything about VTubers, let alone Hololive specifically? I always find it funny watching the reactions of people who know nothing about them trying to work out all the crazy references, like Maximilian playing Idol Showdown. (He ended up liking Botan the most because she is cool and has the power of GUN.)
There was a time where I played it so much that I would see the game whenever I blinked. I was severely addicted.
Hello, I hope you're safe over there? I hope this year brings happiness, prosperity, love 💚 , and peace all over the world . I would love us to be good friends in honesty and in trust so as time goes on it will bring something great for us in the future, hope you don't mind? I'm Gabriel Wood from Brooklyn New York, where are you from if I may ask
That is called Tetris Syndrome, friend
a guy told me to try this game when he walked into the 24hr gas station i worked at at 3:00 in the morning. I wasn't sure what he was talking about, and I unfortunately forgot all about it in the days following. Finding out that _this_ was what he was talking about all along...honestly makes sense for a guy who goes to gas stations at 3:00 in the morning.
This HAS to be a series
The whip, and subsequently Bloody Tear, is one of the most underrated weapons in the game. I almost never play a round without it, it's basically a guarantee to keep you alive until the 30 minute mark. It's just a question of all your other weapons doing enough damage (and they absolutely can and will).
Now we gotta get Kevin to come back to this years later to complete the full run, like he has with some other games. lol
tips, lvl 4 garlic kills all base skeletons, including the hord, but not the clothed skeletons, the candle sticks are the new torches
I'm so addicted to Vampire Survivors that I own almost every Survivor-esque game. Each Survivor-esque game has its own quirks. My two favourites are Hall of Torment and the newly released Pathfinder Gallowspire.
Bwahahaha! I am psyched to watch this video!
Everyday at work, a group of us play Vampire survivors and chat for the whole lunch hour so it was a shock to see it appear in my Kevin feed.
(Really hoping he gets to play as the tree. I think he would enjoy the silliness quite a bit)
I was never into these kinds of games until I gave this one a try, happy to see you enjoyed it too Kevin!
Just reinstalled this game. Watching Kevin get serotonins is giving me flashbacks to all the serotonin I farmed in this game
*the most normal game ever*
"ThIs Is A wEiRd GamEee"
If he would just stay still with the garlic the skeletons wouldn't even reach him and just deliver free xp
I can't believe he managed escape Vampire Survivors' nefarious grasp for this long, damn.
Welp, nothing to be done, Kevin's lost to us now.
I loved when the vampire said "It's Vampiring Surviving time!" and proceeded to vampire survive over everything.
Seeing Kevin play Vampire Survivors is strong evidence in my headcanon that Kevin, DangerouslyFunny and GrayStillPlays are all secretly the same guy
I didn’t even have to watch a video for DangerouslyFunny, just saw the names for them, and yeah that guy is definitely Gray at least.
nope they just all chase the same trends and you're so simple that you worship them for it.
it’s been a month since this was uploaded… a month since i became addicted to the game… i haven’t seen my family in weeks… all i know is big garlic… hoping kevin returns to vampire survivors bc there’s so so much more content than meets the eye
I've played games like this before, not sure what this genre is called, but yeah they are JUST as addicting as Kevin shows here.
"The pigeon saved me. It was like calling in an airstrike." 😂
HEY MAN, I JUST STOPPED BY TO SAY DAMN YOU FOR INTRODUCING ME TO THIS GAME I GOT IT OUT OF MILD CURIOSITY AND I HATE HOW MUCH I LOVE IT ALREADY. I THOUGHT THE REVIEWS ABOUT ADDICTION WERE A BIT BUT THEY HONESTLY HAVE SOME VALIDITY. THIS IS A GREAT GAME TO PLAY WHILE IGNORING THE CONSTANT PROGRESSION OF TIME AND FORGETTING WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO BLINK. I BOTH DO AND DON’T RECOMMEND THIS GAME.
This game is incredible. It does it one thing and it does it so well
One of the few games I platinumed on Steam, Vampire Survivors is absolutely a must purchase.
I played this for TWO HOURS last night after watching your video. Loved it, and especially loved knowing what powerups to go for!
There's only more and more to this game. More levels, systems, characters, some entirely new playstyles even... there's so much depth here, especially for the price.
If you keep playing Kev-O, I think you'd love the old minecart guy, like I do.
This game is very deceptive and VERY addictive lol. That last gameplay was very satisfying to watch!
I didn’t want the video to end. Games looks so fun
Damn, you were better than me at this game at first run. I had already died by that time
I LOVE vampire survivors. There's actually an Emergency Meeting DLC they collaborated with THE Among Us on. There are infact skins of different among us crewmates (preset) and overall just fun as hell.
Vampire survivors is a great game nice to see you play it i got adicted when it first came out and asmongold played it
