That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime's REFRESHING TAKE On the Isekai Formula

- I enjoy my fair share of isekai anime but I don't go around praising them as something original unless they truly are and honestly, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime might be one of the freshest isekai anime out there.

One thing that I really love about this story is that Rimuru's past as a human from modern Japan actually plays a big role in shaping who he is and how he approaches problems and develops his nation. There are so many isekai out there that honestly could have been purely fantasy stories without the summoned/reincarnated from another world element and I wouldn't have been able to tell the difference ... or it would have been markedly better if it had been purely fantasy.
From fairly early on in this anime, it's made clear that the stakes in this show doesn't really include whether Rimuru will live or die. He is personally powerful enough that he can defeat, or at least survive, almost any encounter with a hostile adversary he is likely to have. Fittingly, the "main quest" of the show isn't to defeat some ultimate opponent.
Rimuru is a very different protagonist from most other isekai because he literally doesn't want power, fame, adventure, etc. What he actually wants is a peaceful and prosperous life for himself and the citizens of his nation which includes friendly relations with the various other nations, both human and otherwise. Thus the stakes aren't about whether Rimuru will survive and defeat his enemies but rather is he able to create a nation of monsters that doesn't go the route of Ainz and Nazarik from Overlord?
Because yeah, if they really wanted to, the Nation of Tempest could likely annihilate any human nation with just Rimuru and the kijin. But Rimuru is, at his core, a kind and good person and is doing all he can to steer Tempest away from that sort of path.
In short, the main dilemma/conflict/drama of the show isn't over Rimuru's life but rather his morals and soul.
This show does bring a new breath of fresh air when it comes to most isekai anime because 80 if not 90% is always the same formula
I love it too, probably my second favorite isekai, edged out by Ascendance of a Bookworm, notable another isekai the breaks the mold by focusing on actually living in the new world and focus on the problems from having to leave your old life behind and learn the rules of a different culture
@@geraldgrenier8132 TenSura and Honzuki are by far the best isekais!
The MC in his previous life didn't feel like a loser at all. He is the average dude. He worked at a construction company and made a decent living. He is kind to his family and friends. And he died as a hero saving his friend. The only thing he could not fulfill in his life was to find a woman to marry. That's all.
Rimiru later is such an interesting guy. Yes he is very powerful. But I really like his decision making. Like you said he befriends if he can. He tries to help but he isn't overzealous and naive with that. He makes adult responsible decisions.
He becomes what I would call a true leader.
I love how he turned a small village into flourishing beautiful city. This is literally the type of shit I would love to do if you throw me into such a fantasy world.
I swear, every anime i watched after this decided to follow suit with this concept:
Slime really made me love it when isekais cover how the protagonist or other characters being transported/reincarnated really wishes they weren't. Their original world isn't forgotten and thrown in the garbage. Especially when they remember the people they left behind.
You could say the girl who got transported in the middle of WWII got a better fate, but she ended up being forced to house a spirit, not only is her lifespan drastically shortened without it, her service to the demon lord ended up killing her first friend.
Rimuru showing her how Japan has recovered, and running back to her mother after she passed actually made me cry.
I love That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, it is perhaps my favorite isekai anime and I can't wait for season 2. The characters are awesome and have great personalities.
for real this anime is the best anime i watched i just hope this anime has more than 5 seasons it would be hella worth it
Probably one of the best isekai or well one of the better isekai.
definitely one of the best isekai's.. i first drop this anime because of it's title.. but im glad i gave it a chance and it was indeed really great anime.. Rimuru was so lovable.. I like him as a slime but whenever he turns into a cute OP boy i like him more that way.. i really waited patiently until he mimic a human form..
P.S why i love this anime it's because it has the same vibe as DR.Stone and Ascendance of bookworm.. Tho Dr.stone is not an isekai anime.. i dunno why i felt the same vibe and happiness with this 3 animes. they are unique but With the same heart put in it..
I totally see what you're saying. I feel like all three of these series have an overall sense of optimism. Whether it's the joy of community, discovery, or creating something.
Same! Other chill and heartwarming isekai anime I absolutely love are Isekai Izakaya "Nobu" and Mairimashita! Iruma-kun, of which the manga is something I look forward to weekly. Speaking of chill isekai manga, Tondemo Skill De Isekai Houroumeshi and Kamitachi Ni Hirowareta Otoko are also really good. Unfortunately, the latter's anime was poorly adapted, while the manga seems to have stopped updating, but I hear the LN is apparently really good.
I need to watch Dr. STONE.
It's for sure one of the best & most unique recent isekais. I loved it and am really excited for season 2.
Next season we get 3 amazing isekai. Slime, Spider and Re:Zero.
I just took a chance after pushing it off for so long just a few days ago and finished it. I literally have the same exact mindset and reaction to this series so what a coincidence!
I miss Shizu so much, she was the best girl. I read ahead a volume and S2 is gonna be a turning point for the series!
This and Rising of Shield Hero are what brought me back to the Isekai genere. I fell in love with both series, especially this one. Its an easy recommendation to anyone
I loved that time I got reincarnated as a slime so much that I'm preparing season 2 by getting a rimuru hoodie for christmas. (Also saw all 5 OVA's)
If you want read something similar to Slime , there's "The Ride-On King" , which was funnily enough , was the actual manga that Rimuru makes in the clip in the video.
At first it initially looks like an "Isekai-Putin" parody manga , but the level of details and world building is pretty much on par if not more detailed than Slime's.
Who didn’t love this slime and merry Christmas man
hope you have a great holiday
Milim is a “figure character”, yeah that sounds about right by how cute and how much waifu she is🥰😍
Now that you mention it, this world does feel like an rpg. It feels so vast and makes me want to explore and interact with every single npc, but every single npc is a full fledged person, even the mobs. When you think about it, instead of having this colourful and cheerful atmosphere it could have easily been something desperate of dog eats dog like in tokyo ghoul. However, Rimuru's easygoing attitude and open heart allows him to see beyond the surface.
One thing I loved about this world mechanics appears in Veldora's diary entries, the dragon comments on how unique skills are in essence a representation of the person's mind, personality and desire. For a unique skill to evolve, the mind has to in turn evolve. To have more than one unique skill is to basically juggle two mindsets, which is the reason why Rimuru is a singular existence, he's by turns a selfish guy wanting to devour the world and yet has an incredible amount of wisdom, he knows what he wants and doesn't want and goes for it in a calm cheerful manner.
This is also the reason why summoned children often don't have skills to channel the great magic they were granted by jumping worlds, they lack the necessary desire and personality required for them.
I remember when he met the female elves he said eilf I mean elves
Well done on the review, I love that there are so many little details, I love them all, this reminds me of, Overlord and Dr. Stone, like the main character is OP but he does not just obliterate everyone he is grounded and uses the resources around him pretty well, world building is excellent. Also as I kept watching whenever I saw goblins it reminded me of Goblin Slayer a lot, wow.
Any show that commits to worldbuilding to this degree without just long text or monologue cannot be bad. You could try reading the spin-off manga where a gurl is writing a touristic guide on the city. A rimuru city slice of life manga.
I like this show i hope you review it when it come back
My favourite anime
Can’t wait for season 2!
I love Slime. So much that I watched the dub just to rewatch it.
It's so charming and the worldbuilding is amazing.
Gobta is best boy. Ranga is Best Best boy.
A fun thing about gobuta is his not weak he just compare himself with the wrong people he is the weakest in the strongest group BUT he is still part of the strongest group thats what he doesn't realize his strong but the others are stronger
Ive been reading the light novel and let me tell you that the anime is not the full extent of the heartof this anime. It makes me really honestly happy to watch this show and read the light novel. With the new season around the corner im really excited to see tensura stir up some more discussions within the community
I watched them whole anime first season on my Xbox One and I am now seeing the appeal. Now trying to catch up to the second season. Then I hope to read the manga and the light novels because I like the series world and worldbuilding and the other little story details.
I honestly prefer tensuras world building, character progression and even the MC over shows like One Piece, while shows are one piece are truly great, tensura just does such a good job at it's world building and i love every single one of the main cast which i can't really say about one piece.(I'm talking about one piece so much because it's always the prime example for these characteristics of a anime)
This guy spokes the Truth about his PC😂
Whoa - You had me thinking season 2 had started. I checked as recently as 2 days ago to see if season 2 had dropped yet. Then I see a video with your name on it and the series' name and I was about to take a celebratory shot of vodka. Anyways. I'll watch this, but yeah - This is another series that you follow and I do, as well. I'm still watching "Akudama Drive", which I am really enjoying, and the only reason I started it is because you cover it. Good job.
So can we expect Slime S2 review?
of course
@@AHBrandonReviews Awesome. Part 1 airs in January and part 2 airs in July.
@@AHBrandonReviews Thats nice to hear. Im really glad that you enjoyed this show.
I think that the reason why Slime is different then majority of Isekai is that Rimuri doesnt have some grand goal(like beating evil and saving the world, going back to his home world, solving the mystery of how he got transported and so powerfull).
He just wants to live a nice new life, when he meet Veldore he decides to save him (goal 1).Then meets goblins and creates a village(goal 2),getting dwarfs (goal 3).Saving forest from Orcs (goal 4) and granting Shizu's wish to save the children and find Leon (goal 5).
@@farmaceut8083 trust me he doesn’t give a shit about power but he cares for his subordinates n friends season 2 u gunna see how rimuru personality changes i so excited for season 2 i just really hope they make for than 5 seasons if they do it would deffo be worth the wait
@@S.Dot_9 I know, i didnt say that he cares about power...
I have read the WN, LN and manga so i know what happens next....
When given a name you becomes somebody. And when Rimuru gains a human body he become an international somebody. It is as easy as that.
Hope you review ssss dynazenon when it comes out
depends on the lineup, if I have room ill add it to the list
S1 is basically civilization.
All the fights doesn't feel like it has any impact cause you already know who's going to win.
Any serious male character touched by the slime gets their personality taken away and replaced with a friendly comedic personality.
If its a female beast, it gets turned into fanservice and its really wierd.
Hopefuly s2 would add more story than ass and tits.
Also me 10/10 would watch again.
Dont' worry about it. It does get more serious
They don't get replaced with a comedic personality, the side characters just become cooler.
I think the main theme for slime is having a good time
Rimurus greatest hurdle- lack of reproductive organs
It wasn't bad but I wasn't very excited over it.
I enjoyed the comedy but I like the comedy more in Konosuba or My Next Life as a Villainess.
Fair
That time i got reincarnated as a slime is my second favorite isekai. Number 1 is Konosuba.
Haha nice, this video has no dislike 🤨 (so far)
I like you.
Something tells me you'll like tsukimichi.
looks pretty good
I couldn't get pass the first few episodes of the series :/
It happens no use forcing yourself to watch something
Unfortunately, here to warn everyone that while the first season was well done, in the LN Slime's plot takes a sharp nose dive in quality later on. We should be largely fine for the upcoming second season as well, but if they continue much past that in the future...bleh. It devolves into more than half of many chapters relegated to explaining pointlessly chuuni sounding convoluted skills in confusing ways, and combat style that can be best summed up as "But this isn't even my final form! Now behold my TRUE POWER!" back and forth -_-. And since it is constantly going from battle to battle later on, this is what constitutes the bulk of each book.
The best things I can say about the second half of the series Is that the side stories that focus on daily life in his city do stay fun, though they are just that, side stories, and that the story DOES have an actual ending, which is more than I can say about many LN's.
Mechasoft. Doors MX
could not finish this
The show needs at least one more pair of pants.
