Sadly, this is a very common pattern when there are favorites in the family unit. This is what happens when one child is treated like a saint and practically deified into godhood. The favored child doesn't know how to function in the real world because the rest of the world won't put up with their crap. Essentially the favored child, thanks to their parents' coddling, has the mentality of an overgrown middle school bully who peaked at age 12 but the emotional maturity of a five-year-old.
EDIT: Since narcissists are so hell-bent on getting their way, no matter the cost, getting the last word, being in the spotlight, having all eyes on them and stroking their gigantic egos through their immediate sense of gratification by "winning” whatever conflict they dreamed up in their diseased mind, they never ever think about the consequences of their actions. I think it's safe to say that Charlotte's toxic behavior invited every bit of karma she experienced.

It is absolutely their karma. I used to know someone who was very much like Charlotte only she was a much older woman. She severely taxed every relationship she had with friends, family and even acquaintances with her toxic, boundary trampling behavior. It got to the point that when her kids were old enough to move out and cut contact, they did. Even after being effectively cut out of their lives, barred from seeing her grandchildren and napalming her second marriage, she still didn't wake up and acknowledge that she was the root cause of all of her problems. Some people hit rock bottom and just keep digging until they find a sub basement.

    • @CoRLex-jh5vx

I feel that's not a completely fair statement. Narcissism is a diagnosable mental health disorder, it can be mitigated with treatment just like any other. Saying all narcissists deserve to be alone is like saying all depressed people deserve to be alone just because some depressed people lash out at others.

    • @iononcantomascrivo
      @iononcantomascrivo 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@CoRLex-jh5vx Unfair statement or not narcissists rarely ever admit they have a problem or seek treatment. My definition alone their extremely self-absorbed, have a really huge opinion of themselves, have no respect for boundaries, zero regard for the word no and nothing resembling a sense of accountability. They're deliberately spiteful and hurt other people out of spite all for their own amusement as well as personal gain. So it's a toxic cycle of behavior which often leads to them hitting rock bottom then digging until they find a sub-basement. All the while they just keep blaming others and extenuating factors for the consequences they experience.

its cuz charlottes attempt failed and OP ended up ending their marriage. its stupid, i see this bias in friend groups all the time. one girl continually insults another over and over again but because she has no emotional reaction nobody cares. but once the bullied girl finally confronts her, the first girl cries and suddenly the other girl is in the wrong even though she wasnt the one insulting someone over and over. third parties will almost always run to comfort the crier even if they were the instigator and even if theyre crying over something thats 10 times tamer than what they were saying/doing. maybe its just in human nature to try and protect the one in emotional distress because usually theyll swap sides later the same way the parents did. its still frustrating, people dont really look at the bigger picture of whats happening once tears are involved

Really feel bad for the husband though.
It was a crush amongst teenagers that had been left in the past, but for some reason Charlotte brought it all up again.
I bet even she had not thought about it until the engagement, then she tormented her husband with comparisons and then made up something that could possibly have been believed if it weren't for the fact that everyone else had forgotten the drama 7 years ago. Strike while the iron is hot, lady.
By the time she made her move, the only person who cared anymore was her husband.
I can actually sort of see where the parents were coming from. This seemed like a temper tantrum between 2 kids with only 1 victim.
They were completely right that the husband leaving his wife over a high school crush was a bit much, but they were blaming the wrong person.

A good lesson to be learned here is that you shouldn’t keep other people in the dark when shit like this is happening. OP refused to tell her parents what was happening for YEARS, and their very first introduction to the situation was her sister’s divorce. If OP had told her parents what had been happening on the day of the wedding, this wouldn’t have been such an issue. I’m glad it worked out well for them but it’s very easy to screw yourself over. OP almost lost the relationship she had with her parents. Don’t keep your mouth shut when someone decides to make you a target.

Who never speaks to their best friend/sister again and has a whole rivalry for the rest of time because of some HIGH SCHOOL CRUSH. High school drama is no need to end a relationship. Thats why this feels fake bro

I’m actually conflicted with happened at the end with her parents cuz like all it took was the days of the honeymoon for the parents from going to console Charlotte to finally having enough of her and wanted to get dinner with the OP to reconcile. I’m like that is way too forgiving because they ignored you and expect you to apologize to the sister who’s creating unnecessary drama and pulled a stunt like that at your wedding. They least they could do is apologize first before complaining about the further actions of your step sister and apologize profusely again at dinner and want to work very hard to reconcile and earn back your trust.

If what OP said about her stepsister is true, then I have no sympathy, cause she was the one who betrayed OP first. My hunch is that the stepsister knew OP would stick to whatever promise they made, but chose to go "rules for thee, but not for me" when it comes to pursuing the person that would become OP's husband. Plus, life lesson here: if the person is not interested no matter what you do (the stepsister had a major head start, and STILL could not charm the man), maybe that person is not the problem. Honestly, I really have no idea how much drama was buried in that stepsister's psyche to become so manipulative, cause while the stepfather did give OP crap initially, he did come around to see OP's side of things, so I doubt she learned it from him.

Charlotte's marriage fell apart because her husband knew if she'd successfully gotten them to split apart she would have left him to try to get together with Noah. Charlotte thinks OP is the villain because she expected Noah to choose her and she still can't get over him not picking her.

Dear LORD I will never understand people who are “too big” to explain themselves right after the incident happens and then whine about how no one is on their side after they let the bad guy spread their tale. “My mom should understand me,” right after saying that she never tried to explain the situation when she got the chance because “she didn’t feel she had to” and then waited until AFTER she knew Charlotte had had a chance to say what she wanted.
    Allow me to scream:
IT DOESN’T MATTER IF YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT IF THE OTHER PARTY CONTROLS THE NARRATIVE!!! DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THE BASIC TENANT OF HISTORY???

If Charlotte's lie was even remotely true then her current husband would've deserved to know about it too, so Charlotte did indeed ruin her own marriage. Because it also seems like her now ex-husband tried to overlook the fact that Charlotte was in love with Noah and he tried to make it work with her, she was the one who never wanted to let go ane move on.

High school was bad enough, but "Charlotte" having an idea she had any kind of "dibs" on Noah screams volumes. The fact that she broke the "no Noah pact" first and Noah told her he didn't like her that way but preferred the OP really means that "Charlotte" is a narcissistic personality.. and potentially a violent one. The OP is very justified in how she handled things. "Charlotte" totally crossed multiple lines, and even though the parents realized what "Charlotte" was up to in the end, anyone who was family falling for "Charlotte's" lies is a huge red flag of how much they ignored her blatant sociopath behaviors in the past. I don't disbelieve the OP about "the silent years" in the same house between them, rather I seriously doubt that "Charlotte" kept her mouth shut. One of the parents, at the very least, had to have "talked to Charlotte" in order to take her side initially. As much as some may come at me with "but what if..." examples, there is a damn good reason why no parent should ever just "take one child's word against another" without thorough conversation and such.
Lastly, this is about as out there as the story of the step-sister who tried to drug and gr*pe the groom "Atlas"....
