How Did I Get Here? A Moment of Zen on California’s Central Coast

    After feeling the need to leave my home base in San Diego, I traveled North. While my intention was to travel East, my soul seems to always pull me back to the ocean. What happened on this trip was a Goldilocks moment of trying out a few beach towns to find the perfect place to stay for a few days. When I got to Shell Beach, a small community in Pismo Beach, I immediately knew I found the perfect spot.
    The last few minutes of this video is a look at just how lovely and peaceful this part of California is. I stopped talking and recorded nothing but the sights an sounds of the central coast.

    My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
    Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.
    Please follow along as I document my journey.
    My Channel Stickers are now available for purchase through PayPal. If you would like to purchase them, please send me $4 for one sticker or $7 for two stickers.
    At this time, I will only be accepting PayPal for payments.
    Please make sure to include your mailing address in the notes. Unfortunately, I will only be able to ship to the US and Canada.
    Also, I will be mailing out all orders once a week. So please be patient with me.

    This was a beautiful update, sights and sounds! I appreciate that you always offer CC on your vids - I don't know how much is up to the creators of content, but not everyone offers CC. * I grew up with the idea that beaches were places that many people went to in warmer months, to lounge around on towels, and frolic in the surf. But maybe the beaches I've come to love best are the ones too wild to swim and frolic in, best watched while walking along shore or outcropping of rock.

    • @StaticCamperVan
      @StaticCamperVan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The beaches in the Southern California are best in September through November. Few people and the water is warmer than the summer months.
      Any beach is a good beach, in my opinion.

    Hi Scott, thanks for the special shoutout at the end of the video - appreciated. Wonderful video and really great video quality. Kinda unbelievable what todays "standard" mobile phone cams are able to capture in colors, richness and dynamic range. Not overly too many years ago professional 5-6 digit broadcast studio cams hardly achieved comparable results - aint that crazy? Anyway, thanks again for taking us on your Zen-trip and I can fully understand why Pismo Beach was a perfect match for you. Good one. Take care, stay safe and all the best, J.

    If I recall Malibu tries to make tons of money off of parking. I think Santa bara bara made a law against high top vans and overly long vehicles parking in the day time. Are you allowed to stay on shadow beach over night?

    So many nice places along the central coast of California. SLO, great 1970s college experience.
    Has grown so much since.
    Well you must make the obligatory stop at the men's room in the Madonna Inn! HAHAHA!!!
    Check out the lauch schedule for Vandenberg Air Force base, now Space Force.
    Santa Maria/Lompoc a good place to watch.
    Cool Hand Luke's in Santa Maria for steak experiencne.
    Buy a nice cowboy hat in town!
    Heading to Santa Cruz? Summer weekday crowds are leaving, everyone back to school, good time to visit.
    Stop explore at Wilder Ranch State park. Near Aptos, Forest of the Nicence Redwoods (spelling?).
    And Pescadero, to Half Moon Bay. Lots of side roads to stay the night.
    Big Basin if they are open (bad fire last year, might still be closed).
    Early October often pleasant days, especially San Francisco area and coast.
    Winter, January through about March, usually nice, without the summer fog, along most of the central coast.
    Nice video! Truly special place in the country. Glad you found your zen.

    Wow. Incredibly gorgeous sunset. I ADORE the pelicans. They are so amazing. They remind me of pterodactyls and take me to a long ago time and place. One of my very most favorite things about the coast is seeing the pelicans. They are so impressive. I Love them SOOO much. Ok, you get the idea, lol. I LOVE THEM! I am very worried about them,. Like a lot of wildlife they are struggling due to a variety of consequences of environmental contamination and climate change. It is heartbreaking.
    I'm getting ready to head up the northern CA and OR coasts for a bit now that things are cooling down, and then back down the central and southern CA coast. Any particular spots you like to recommend in any of those areas? I will also be looking to get a variety of work done on my van (older Ford) in OR. CA prices will be too high for me. Any chance you know of any trustworthy mechanics up in OR or know of someone who might? Sorry, but I thought you might have some ideas.
    I wonder if monarchs are still making it to the CA coast. Would love to see them over the winter...

    • @StaticCamperVan
      @StaticCamperVan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, I don’t know any mechanics in Oregon.
      There are a lot of places to see and recommend here. Unfortunately, most of the great areas are closed now because of the wildfires. Hopefully after the 17th the National Forests will be opening back up. Until then, we are limited on areas to visit.

    • @lacha608
      @lacha608 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey. Thanks for responding. No worries. Maybe I'll try asking around in health food stores or libraries for mechanic referrals.
      Oh, are the coastal areas along highway 1 National Forest areas? I'm mainly planning to stick to the coast and just head inland for mechanics, maybe some supplies, and to see some of the OR cities on my return trip south. Yes, I know the forests are closed for now. Very sad, and the situation will presumably worsen in the coming years. Trying to see some areas before it's too late. I'll prob be spending 5-6 weeks traveling along the coast, though, rather than inland in the forests..

    • @StaticCamperVan

      Ah, I see. Port Orford OR is a place that is really beautiful. Also Thor’s Well near Yachats is a place I’ve been wanting to see. You can’t go wrong with any of the Pacific Coast.
