I just purchased a generation 4 with this exact remote. I’m currently stuck on the beginning where there is all different languages popping up. The volume button is the only thing popping up. It’s not currently letting me click on anything else. Would you be able to help with with steps I need to take ? As I can’t see to figure this out.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago with my Apple TV 2022 remote. Rebooting the remote fixed it then. However, today it appears my remote is completely dead. I did charge it for at least 30 minutes using two different chargers. I tried to do the reboot. I tried unplugging the Apple TV and replug it back in but for whatever reason the remote is unresponsive. I’m running tvOS 16.3. Thankfully, we can control Apple TV‘s with the iPhone remote. Update: I just re-paired the remote using Apple’s instructions by holding the remote 3 inches away from the Apple TV, and then pressing down the BACK button and the volume up button (+) for five seconds. That reconnect to the remote to the TV. It seems you working fine now, but from the sounds of it, this will likely be an issue until Apple releases a software fix for it.
5:40 I did the 'forget this device' and have tried multiple times now to re-pair but it won't work. The Remote was 100% battery before I unpaired it from the TV so I know it's not that. 😭😭😭😭
6:08 reconnect remote. This solved my issue. Forget device, then hold volume up and back buttons until Apple TV connects to remote. It may ask for you to place remote on Apple TV unit for pairing. Thank you!

I bought a brand new one for my mother for Christmas She lives in another state and right out of the box. The remote would not talk to the Apple TV. Not a lot of options for alternatives when you’ve never set up the Apple TV and shield didn’t have the box or anything so that I could return it.
Everyone close to my issue but not on point volume ain’t an issue my remote keeps not staying connected to actual tv it’s hooked up to. So that both Apple TV and actual screen turn off instead of staying on and leaving me needing to find the screen remote and turn it off

Omg thank you… I reset my first gen AppleTv 4k and the new silver remote I purchased separately would not pair. I used the back button and up volume… finally worked. I reached out to apple support and they never tried this, apple support blows.
I’ve been having issues with my remote doing a “double click” with only one push of the circle button. Apparently this is a common issue with this style of Apple remote. Have you experienced this at all.? I have completely erased my remote out of my 2022 Apple 4K unit. I’ve done this about three times. I even disengage the center button so it will not navigate by sliding my finger across it. When I do a reset. It seems to work for a very short minute of time. And then goes back to doing the double click problem. If you have figured out a solution to this, if you were experiencing the same thing, a video explanation would be awesome. Thank you very much
@@Techthusiasm . That’s good. I thought it was a sensitivity issue or setting on the remote. But one I did a search. Apparently it is a ongoing issue experience with others.
Just found your great and helpful video. My month old Apple Tv remote quit this afternoon. Charged it with no luck. Reset it with no luck. Disconnected it,(was very reluctant at first), moved it to the Apple box and it connected right up. Like you, I thought I needed to go to the Apple store. All is well now, thanks to you. The issue I’m having is, I turned of CEC controls on Apple Tv but on my tv it still keeps thinking I’m holding the power volume down button. Anybody know how I can get rid of this problem

But I actually hard reset the Apple TV remote itself and it solved the issue, and surprisingly still controls the tv volume. But thank you for the reply and great content
My Apple TV remote worked perfectly until I updated to iOS 17.1. Now the remote can pause, play, reverse, etc any show I’m watching, but it can not raise, lower or mute the volume of my Samsung TV. When I press the volume or mute buttons the Apple TV Box light responds but the TV does not. I have reset everything a hundred times, I am using TV via IR, I have created new TV via IR. Nothing works. Have you updated to 17.1 yet? If you have do your volume and mute buttons still work? I wish I never would have updated to the newest iOS release!

It’s changed now for the 4K Apple TV remote, or at least it worked different for me. I pressed and hold the back and volume up buttons and then it actually made the reset and reconnected.
Thank you! A reboot fixed it right away. Helpful tip: if you point the remote (or any IR remote) at the front camera on your phone and hit the volume buttons, you should see a purple light. This is the IR. When my remote was not controlling the volume, this light was not showing up. After the reboot, it works.
Like you I use the IR side of this remote to control the volume of my AVR, twice my ATV remote stopped working in quick succession (a couple of days apart), quick tip, if you point any IR based remote into a camera (iPhone camera works fine) you can see if the IR transmitter is working, mine wasn't, the reset worked both times & has been fine for a few weeks since.

Hi there. Thank you kindly! I just ran across your channel due to this issue. I had a similar yet different symptom. My volume Down button was stuck. No matter what I watch on my TV at any volume, the volume would drop down to muted. Now that's no fun. I have three remotes that all control my TV volume including my Apple TV remote, which leads out from the HDMI eARC on my TV to my Sonos system which probides the boom. I had to first diagnose which remote was the culprit. Finding it was fun. I had first taken the batteries out of the other remotes. Problem still existed. Nervous that my TV was bad, for I had selected a music streaming source for my Sonos, and the problem went away (the Volume on the remotes only work from the TV volume.) Alas, I then took my Apple TV remote into another room so the IR would not be effective, and the problem went away until I brought the remote back into the room. When I did, the symptom repeated right away. My search for a solution began. With a hot cup of coffee in hand, Techthusiasm shows up. Your video was helpful and quick to understand. You saved me from a call to Apple. I like the Apple TV Remote diagrams you provided that showed the different version remotes. Being a techie also, I appreciate concise and through answers. You did a great job explaining the problem and describing the solution. You were not the first channel I found. Others were not helpful. One guy spent 10 minutes showing how to plug in the USB connector, really, that is all, over 10 minutes talking, and nothing how to check the charge level, or rebooting it. 10/13/23 received new ATV. Couldn’t get my ATV to control the volume with my @7 year Samsung soundbar. Took your advice and plugged in the remote. I also used my iPhone to update the ATV while the remote was plugged in. Once the ATV updated I unplugged the remote and now it can control the volume on the soundbar. Thank you!
Great vid and your solutions are on point. I just tried to restart my AppleTV 4K via the remote (back button + tv screen button) and it restarted alright! The device went into an infinite loop of restarting. The only fix was to restart the remote with the steps you provided. Thank you!
Mine is whack. Brand new only about 2 weeks old. Will lose volume control, then when trying to move around the apps it will jump across the screen or zombie scroll. The reset you mentioned is what I have to do every single day because of the same exact issues over and over again. Sometimes volume down works and then volume up doesn’t and this will change from app to app.
Yeah, some folks have worse luck with this. Mine has been working well for a while for IR volume control of my Anthem STR, but just again recently, I have experienced it not working and had to do the reset a few times. Meh.
@@Techthusiasm I called Apple Support and spoke to multiple engineers. one of the guy, seemed smart, he told me to change the resolution and try and to my surprise ot worked. Not sure what it has got to pair remote.

This new siri remote software is the worst. Its a great remote design, but the volume control keeps stopping working. It’s been so frustrating. On my atv upstairs, a hard reboot fixes it, but on my atv downstairs restart doesn’t get the IR working again. Will try a disconnect and repair next.

What happens with mine is the remote will freeze and the swiping will be delayed. I’ll swipe right on the remote, and it’ll take 2-3 seconds to register. Super annoying. I hope the tvOS 16.3 update fixed it.
What kind of charger were you expecting? I don't think they include any with the Apple TV itself. They assume you'll just charge off some other USBC cable you already have.

I erased the remembered control and did the processed several times and couldn't get it to work, that when I search on TH-cam and found your video. Doing the Siri Remote Reset worked for me. Thanks!
Man this was driving me craaazy! Been having this issue for months now and fiddled with every audio setting possible and nada. Was about to order another remote and decided to google the issue again and this video popped up. Thank you SO much. Rebooting it helped!
@@Techthusiasm only my apple tv input on the avm 70. No changes have been made and the newest apple tv has been installed since it came out. The avm 70 had a firmware update recently. Now when i turn my system on with apple tv, i get a green screen. Like i said no changes have been made since the new apple tv has been installed.
Hmm, no problems like that here, but I'll update if I have any. Maybe try another HDMI or unplug everything, unplug power, leave it for a few minutes, then reconnect it all again and see.

Back button and volume up I believe was my solution
I accidently washed my controller can't get it to work, do you think its dead forever? LOL
I'd try to put it in a bag with rice or something along those lines for a bit. Try to dry it all out and test again. But likely, it is dead.
My remotes volume stopped working about a day later. Just tried the reboot and it works. Thanks for fix 👍👍👍

10/13/23 received new ATV. Couldn’t get my ATV to control the volume with my @7 year Samsung soundbar. Took your advice and plugged in the remote. That has the prior generation remote with the square touch pad. That remote might not emit the IR at all, I believe.

I erased the remembered control and did the processed several times and couldn't get it to work, that when I search on TH-cam and found your video.

Doesn’t help the tv power on and off function.
There was another comment where someone learned the power command for their TV to the mute button as a workaround since they didn't want or use mute.
@@Techthusiasm turns out my hdmi cable was not in the cec port. Changed that connection and it now works.

No, the Apple TV remote lasts for many weeks. I basically hardly ever charge it.

@@Techthusiasm only my apple tv input on the avm 70. No changes have been made and the newest apple tv has been installed since it came out. The avm 70 had a firmware update recently. Now when i turn my system on with apple tv, i get a green screen. Like i said no changes have been made since the new apple tv has been installed.
Hmm, no problems like that here, but I'll update if I have any. Maybe try another HDMI or unplug everything, unplug power, leave it for a few minutes, then reconnect it all again and see.
