Unfortunately, her passion for bugs made other people sick, and she was never really able to find friends. She tried again and again, but to no avail. The former king was playing well, and the kid was stumped. Realizing that he was in the kids position, he let the kid win on purpose. Two girls showed up, and the man asked if they wanted to play. The girl lost the family and she couldn't get over it. She became too scared to love. One night, she realized that her long lost husband was waiting for her. They got remarried and may have also had a makeout session in the wedding church. Chapter 9: There was a clown. He danced and gave out balloons and took soda cans to the face. One day while on his usual routine, a beautiful princess showed up and gave him a heart shaped balloon. Since then, he fell into a literal rollercoaster ride of suppressed emotions and embarrassment. One day he couldn't suppress his feelings anymore and admitted his feelings to the princess with a big flower bouquet. Chapter 10: There was an artist. She was good at her job. Turns out he was, when a boy and girl put trash in its rightful place. Soon after, people began to realize the old man's work and decided to help him. The sidewalks were cleaner than clean, and the old man was happy now that people have finally noticed him and his work. Geez this took a while, hope you like it.
Chapter 7 actually more tragic then it looks, In the BOOK the king of chess guy have a wife but then feel ill, he was too focused for his last chest game that he didn't show up for his wife final moments
Actually looking at Chapter 11, the firefighter dreamed about being a hero and saving people. So when a fire broke out and a person was trapped, he thought he could save her. Turns out he was too scared to rush in because the burning blaze was scarier than it looks.
The bosses make me think of Madoka Magica for some reason.. The people reach their deepest moment of despair and turn into corrupted manifestations of themselves..
It reminds me of some weird hybrid of Madoka Magica and Miraculous. Madoka, because of the designs. And Miraculous because of the concept of these designs reflecting something awful that’s happened to the victims and a mysterious villain twisting them into villains.
The cutscenes and the story are actually quite nice: People turning corrupted by being overwhelmed from despair, caused from a traumatic event that made their heart close up and turn cold.. ... It's the gameplay that's pretty donkey ass bad
Have you SEEN the dancing? It's mocap, which for dancing, unfortunately makes the characters look lifeless. Also the chess piece dancing feels threatening in a way
Actually If Balan didn't meet Emma and Leo, he wouldn't have given them a part of his power, thus the Negati feeding off the People's despair and suffering would continue to do so because the duo wouldn't have defeated them. It's true he didn't do much, but he did something. :) _it's just the gameplay didn't care about him._
@@DynoSkrimisher So... why he needed 2 children to do his work? what exactly is his power? why is Leo sad? Why Balan has a minigame where he destroy crystals? why the Tims are needed?
I feel bad for Lance, man. From the novel we know that he's the antagonist because he's trying to keep people in wonder world, and he's trying to do that because he doesn't want his friends to leave by going back to their normal lives. Then at the end when he finally gets snapped out of it, the things I assume are the negati drag him back into a literal pit of despair....
There may be a lot of things that are wrong and are to complain about, but nothing will change my mind on how beautiful the music and the graphics are in this game.
Kinda. It's like Persona, with the whole going into people's cognitions and fixing them. But instead of it being removing horrid people's desires, you are stopping them from getting depression or whatnot.

I think the Clown’s ending gives a reverse Beauty and the Beast idea, the guy only had confidence when he removed the silly mask which I thought was his real face
I thought to myself. "YOU WERE WEARING A MASK?!" When he took off his mask, and I was just sort of thinking that this clown guy was just depressed because he lacked confidence to confess to a girl that he liked her.

The little girl too, I don't quite understand what happened at the end of her fight (like, baland went back in time and prevented her cat from being ran over?) but she almost saw her cat die horribly in front of her, that's pretty traumatic for a child
@@geovanibenjamin8940 I saw it as the girl just panicked when she saw the cat crossing the street and a car was coming, and she ran away without looking back out of fear, not wanting to see her friend die...only to find out the car actually stopped in time and the cat successfully crossed the road, so it was all just a panic attack
@@dustymcwari4468 The Man Seen By No One, is by far the best one to be the final lost soul. Old age. Inevitability. Alienation. The world moving on without you. @@XX-sp3tt that’s really true, but the Bride’s not one, but two heavy nukes tossed at her prosperous life all of sudden, dropping her from her highest to her lowest point of her life in a single swoop, so much she isolates herself from the world, including her fiancé who’s worried and tried his best to help her out without disturbing her too much, but to no avail, and even though she begins to notice she has a problem, no matter how she tries, her depression keeps winning and she only sinks deeper, all the way until she nearly loses all the warmth in her heart, to fall in an eternal slumber forever. So after the boss fight, she finally manages to thaw herself out of the ice, go back to her fiancé, marry, and form a family herself, saying that no matter how much life may hurt and how low you can get, you can still make it out and continue with your life. I saw the old man’s story more about one of persistence more than anything, he wants to do a good thing to the world (keeping the streets clean), but the world itself doesn’t seem to care all that much, the man keeps trying and trying, but it’s as if the more he tried, the more invisible he becomes, and it’s as if his efforts become all the less effective the more he tries, so he’s really being pushed to throw the towel, and after still trying to keep doing that nice thing, people eventually begin to notice, and they start to help him out as well, so much so his vision is not only achieved, but he’s getting recognized for it, I guess it’s a story about how a small individual can make a big change if it’s determined to do it But guess the stories are rather open to interpretation, at least in the game, because the book does go deeper and more detailed with them
I love how the introduction includes both characters, the male and female version. Most don't they just include the one you pick. The way it played with the realities in the game.
Yeah, it's such a shame that the boy story sucks, a lot. Like, the girl makes sense why she would be depressed and sad, but the boy's story doesn't make sense, it is like. "Boy dances, everyone likes the dance, them boy is depressed"

25:55 as someone who’s had pets run over by careless drivers who don’t even have the curtesy to check and see if they’re okay or apologize for killing them, I totally relate with this girl!
@@leonardofarias8843 you’re correct, the girl saw a car coming while the cat was crossing the road, she panicked thinking the car was going to hit the cat, but the girl never actually saw the cat get run over, she turned around, ran and never looked back cause she didn’t want to see the brutal scene. However in the end, time gets reversed, and instead of the girl running away, she turns back around only to realise the car actually stopped in time and the cat crossed the road perfectly fine.
I love how from the third boss onwards every victory becomes a "Rare achievement" and goes down to 0.19% at the end ... it is a testament that being a completionist takes some serious dedication lol
So, my theory on the development of Balan Wonderworld goes as such: Yuji Naka and co. wanted to make a spiritual successor to NiGHTS into Dreams, and designed a world and characters to fit in it. They got far enough as to make the pre-rendered cutscenes, then were ordered by the publisher, Square Enix, to shift direction from a 2.5D acrobatic flight game to a 3D Platformer without moving their original deadline.
The Art and designs look like a mixture of Klonoa and Nights........ I don’t know if that’s good or bad. 🤔 At least the music is great! And the concept that each of the Bosses is a person going through their darkest moments, and they become corrupted versions of their Dreams, PHENOMENAL!! Edit: holy crap they go dark! The BRIDE chapter, Jeez Louise........
This game was released just over a week ago, and people have already blown through the entire thing. All I can say is... Damn. That certainly says something, but I'm not in a position to define what.
Here're the names of the Bosses, in order (discluding Lance) Barktholomew Anjellica Wormsworth Worville Wright Cuckoo Purrla Fortstopher IV The Grim Creeper Princess Marley Inkabella The Hydrac Hooverton I'm hoping somebody makes a video explaining the Boss designs.
I feel like the central theme for the game is grief and loss, the main boss lance amplifies it by taking said grief and manifesting it into a monster, that or the theme of depression since in the introduction the MC seems disinterested in interacting with others. End message being things can always get better. I'm also curious if they have a nightmare mode for this game to play to increase the attack speed of the bosses.
@@JabaPlay I noticed since you were just standing there for a few of those bosses. One or two did show some challenge, I noticed, but I think the story makes it worth it. Seriously, with the cat one and the bride one, I was nearly in tears, and they do it all without saying a single comprehensive word. I'm definitely going to get this game when I get the chance.
@@ThatsATHICC_RAY There are, they're just buried under the majority of people bashing the game for often-times contradicting reasons. Not BAD reasons, but reasons that seem to treat the situations as worse than they are in reality.

More like Persona 4 as you're helping people who have been overwhelmed by their trauma rather than trite cliche assholes who don't have repressed good sides which is what their shadow would've have been.
wait, Balan and Lance. They look similar to each other, could they be one and the same? also, they're names, combine them: Balan + Lance = Balance. like they're 2 halves of the same coin, so while Balan helps you, you also help them to free/save their other half. but yeah, quite the roller coaster of a theme.
@@wyrancost523 also i think the dancing after defeating bosses is like a fully 3D homage to the Kirby series of games, since after you beat bosses in those games, Kirby, and sometimes whatever companion was with him in that helped in the fight (like in Superstar, Superstar Ultra, and Star Allies), and would dance in victory.
Lance is in charge of all the negative and Balan is all the positive emotions. As the theme song saids you need balance so both are needed to help you but the game is about Lance deciding to farm negative emotions from trauma Victims indefinitely to become more powerful than Balan so working with Balan is the correction to balance them all
Balan and Lance actually are the same person. Lance was the original Balan, but after helping humans, he sorta fell into despair from all of the negative emotions. So, he created the new current Balan to take care and help those troubled people. This info is from the Balan Wonderworld novel

The game reminds me of a ps1 game called Threads of Fate, one of the main characters, Hue, had the power to transform in many of the enemies we defeated. While the bosses remind me a bit of some ones of the klonoa franchise. The game design it reminds me more like a mix between nights into dreams and klonoa. With balan being a "nights" of sorts.
@@flowertiew1473 no just joking about how the fireman's stage is a burning city. There is a level in Sonic 06 called Crisis City which is, in turn, a burning city. The cause of it was because of a rampaging fire demigod let loose from a princess named Elise which was sealed away in her. And the stupid part is, the only way to break the seal was for her cry. Sonic 06's story was not a good one. (It was very bad...)
This is what we got instead of a sequel to that game. If they had just struck back when the iron was hot, they would’ve had a trilogy they could put into an HD collection like with Spyro and Crash. Ah well, I’m working on my own stuff now. If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself.

Just a little idea I made if a chapter title were to pop up just before the final boss battle. SPOILERS, DON'T LOOK UNLESS YOU WISHED TO BE SPOILED OR ALREADY KNOW Chapter 13: The maestro who was before
Seems like a game that worries more about it's artistic expression than coherency, so to speak. Which I can respect to a degree, letting a game display vision and ideas over the need to create a narrative is certainly a valid approach. I think the game looks well made and visually great even if the gameplay might be sort of excessive and slow-ish. The bosses don't look like they have a particular theming around them. No one boss seems to have any real connection to the source it came from but they're colorful and bright and I enjoy the designs. Especially Balan himself. It's like a cartoon made with eastern designs rather than western designing. Over the top and maybe not entirely readable, so to speak, but it looks like it would at least be fun to experience.
DON’T! The controls and gameplay are mind numbingly simple. And there are a billion costumes that act as your health bar. Because of this, there is so. Much. Backtracking. Save your money. Please.

I saw the old man’s story more about one of persistence more than anything, he wants to do a good thing to the world (keeping the streets clean), but the world itself doesn’t seem to care all that much, the man keeps trying and trying, but it’s as if the more he tried, the more invisible he becomes, and it’s as if his efforts become all the less effective the more he tries, so he’s really being pushed to throw the towel, and after still trying to keep doing that nice thing, people eventually begin to notice, and they start to help him out as well, so much so his vision is not only achieved, but he’s getting recognized for it, I guess it’s a story about how a small individual can make a big change if it’s determined to do it
But guess the stories are rather open to interpretation, at least in the game, because the book does go deeper and more detailed with them

Also that is a great analysis on your part, didn't notice the thing about the name until you pointed it out
@@wyrancost523 also i think the dancing after defeating bosses is like a fully 3D homage to the Kirby series of games, since after you beat bosses in those games, Kirby, and sometimes whatever companion was with him in that helped in the fight (like in Superstar, Superstar Ultra, and Star Allies), and would dance in victory.

I don’t know about that
Intro makes me think about "Friends From The Other Side"
I got a Balan Wonderland ad while seeing this
god damn balan and lance look good asf ❤️
35:23 to 35:37
It be funnier if we just beat up the small one and then proceeded to launch him into the air (in which he falls) but then he turns into the big one
(Kinda like the one that’s from shovel knight from a weak boss to a hard and tough boss, I’m referring to tinker knight)
Ngl, that ending made me tear up
It kinda reminded me of deltarune's ralsei face reveal.
It's honestly a shame this game flopped. It has some cool ideas
