I adopted one of these cats in Oct 2010. He's the sweetest fella. He's in the clip, about 17 seconds in, sitting in the window. It's sad to think about where he came from. He has permanent respiratory problems and he's a bit beat up, but what a sweetheart. I hope they all found forever loving homes.
Hi Karla Willis, Someone left their cat behind. She was a beautiful Tabby. I named her Scampy because she used to go around the neighborhood for handouts but I was the only one who fed her! When winter came, I tried to invite her inside, even though my own cat had hissed at her at the window all spring, summer and fall. She wouldn't come even though it was very cold outside. Scampy used to let me hold her so one day I tried to put her into a crate and get her to a shelter where she could be adopted, she wanted no part of it. I have since had to move from the area and neighbors told me that Scampy was waiting for me on my old front door steps. I hope someone else realized what a good soul she is and was able to care for her on her terms. That happened over two years ago and I still miss her!! I still have my cat who does not want to share her home. What can you do but accept their needs and wishes. PS: I informed the local shelter before I left, but as usual, they don't come unless there is a "problem" IE: You have to bring the animal to them.
Lizzy inA Tizzy This cat chose you. Come back for her. Jackson Galaxy actually has a couple of tips on how to introduce cats to each other so try those out! Maybe your own cat would end up accepting her eventually.
Thanks so much for your reply!! I am so very far from the area and have no contacts so I do not even know if she is alive. I can only hope to see her on the Rainbow Bridge. Don't worry for her, I am positive she found another loving soul. There is no way she would let someone hurt her! She is too smart, but what worries me is her age, I'm old and so is she, that is way I wish I could have taken her with me.
+alleycatalog Hello, thank you for watching our video! The cats were transported to temporary shelters where they received veterinary care and were able to rehabilitate. After this they were adopted out of shelters into loving forever homes :)
Good, because I saw a video where they removed 250 cats from a hoarding situation, only to euthanize them all! That's just shitty and if you don't have the resources to follow through, find someone who does, or split it up among others. Because pulling them out just to euthanize them is just as fucking horrible as leaving them in the first place.
after watching this i went to my cat and gave her a big hug to know she is safe and happy ........only if all animals could live this way its just not fair
Jack Shields same here i eat meat but i feel guilty when i do.....i have cut back on it lately and i feel meat is ok in smaller amounts and in a humane way we usually get our meat from a friend of the family ( the daughter is my best friend) and we know they had a full healthy life like the one bull we ate only because he as starting to get very aggressive and unsafe.... (trust me he had plenty of kids lol) and the chicken were pretty much free roaming they cage was outdoors and very large they couldnt roam because the dogs would have attacked them and we mainly eat a lot of venison which lasts us a long time so i dont feel so bad eating that because i know they grew up happy and healthy.
One of my cats I found on a side of a highway it was a really skinny and small Russian blue kitten so I pulled over and tried to get but it started running down to this drive through for a food place so we went down to there and the cat ran into a persons car so we got it out and at first it was very aggressive but as it got more comfortable it wasn't like when I first got her. She had burnt her paws a little but recovered very fast. And after we had Her at my house for a little we got her checked up at the vet and named her Hidie. I love her so much!!
I believe people with animal hording issues need to helped. It is a compulsion. Animals are expensive. I have one cat and he eats a lot. 150 cats is a lot. The owner had a large yard which would have been better for the cats, if a larger separate building was constructed. I hope all the cats get sprayed and neutered. I hope both the cats and the former owner get better.
I cried. I love cats so much and I would treat every single one of these cats with love and affection and provide them great shelter and safety. In the future, I didn't have big plans, I wanted to be a fashion designer, part-time bar tender, etc., and watching this has just made me want to work in an animal rescuing shelter.
Im really envy of america.. Here in Indonesia, there's no such big rescue whatsoever.. Yes there are some independent rescue here and there but nothing like this.. I tried to save as many strays as i can, but i had limits too and its difficult to reach for help.. So far i had more than 20 stray cats that needs high maintainance because most of them are sick and injured.. Me and my mom tried our best to help them 😊😊😊 wish us luck 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
They were so loving and careful with those cats,I appreciate their rescue efforts! I hope most if not all of those babies were restored to health and found good homes♡
I have no sympathy for the hoarder of animals. You wanna hoard? hoard junk...it's about control and insane denial, nothing about anything there expresses love.
+Tracy Buening Most hoarders think they are helping them. Hoarding at this level is a true mental disorder and help should be given to the human as well.
Total agreement that this is a mental health issue, a form of OCD, anxiety and depression. The difference in animal hoarding is the animals can't consent to live that way. The person may profess deep affection and love for their pets. The conditions would refute this in EVERY way. It's a kin to torture to be forced to live in conditions like this, the conditions of the environment it's self was killing them. That is not love, and mental illness can't excuse it. Animal hoarders almost always reoffend, it's a stubborn disorder, and it always ends badly for everyone. I think this is one of those things that a real clear message has to be sent to offenders really for their own good and the safety of another living beings.
+Tracy Buening In this case, it seems almost understandable. These cats are well fed, and there doesn't seem to be any issues with the owner complying with the removal. The real problem I can see from this is most likely someone having the best intentions, but not able to keep up with the medical costs. Spaying a neutering. This probably started with a small handful taken in, then boom.. the breeding began. The humans should have done something sooner.
FoxgloveWanderer I think that animals can tell who is trying to help them and are just as capable of showing gratitude as humans. Some may be a bit more distrusting then others but most are so sick they can't really put up a fight even if they wanted.
Seriously. I have three adult cats that I rescued as tiny babies 8 1/2 years ago, and they would NOT be this nice to anyone coming in. LOL. They're so rude. Hahaha
Like the guy in the video said, it all starts out with good intentions but soon gets out of control. If you take in say, 4 cats as pets and 2 of them aren't fixed, they will mate and multiply like crazy...
I'm amazed for the number of cats that were in and around the home, most were very complacent and seemed to be socialized. Normally when I see rescues of this scale, the cats are feral and are very afraid of being handled.
sad thing is, the humane society in my city end up "putting down" a lot of cats that are captured or taken from hoarders because of not enough funds to keep them alive waiting to be fostered or adopted.
In my city, they only put down cats if they are in a lot of pain and are incurable, or if they are too vicious and have been there for years and never get adopted. At least the cats get a quick and painless death instead of staying in the shelter their whole life.
After watching this, I went to both my cats and said " I love you, you know that?" You might think thats weird and obviously my cat won't respond, but judging by the face, he knows what Im saying and for these poor sweet neglected cats, I wish them all the best, I hope they're all rescued! I hope The Humane Society Of The United States will rescue more of the sweet angels!
OMG... this is so heartbreaking. One thing of note though, one has to admit that even under the most unlivable conditions, cats do manage to live harmoniously and be sociable. They are better off physically now but they have all lost the cat friends and loved ones they've been living with. Hopefully most of them will survive and be adopted into a new loving family.
I'm sure these animal hoarders did have good intention by taking in homeless strays but the fail to realize that they aren't doing the animals any favors if they cannot provide them with adequate food, clean water, and medical care. I have two cats and cannot take in any more because that is all I can provide well for. My cats are healthy, clean, and happy. If I had more money and a bigger house, I would be happy to take in more cats or dogs.
Oh my god, when they pulled out those kittens...broke my heart. My mom adopted a kitten from a shelter when she was about 16. The kitten she found was a calico Siamese mix and incredibly malnourished. Mom told my grandma to put her hand in the cage and the kitten wrapped her paws around Grandma's hand. They named the kitten Juliet. All cats deserve a good, loving home.
We are fostering our first pair of tabby siblings that are the survivors out of five. It is a really tough job but gives so much happiness. At 6 weeks they are so full of energy and love and of course food. We are going to be their forever home. They were under a shed in our back yard. No mom ever returned. They were meant to belong to us. I've never had cats at such a young age.
Every time one of the cats meowed in the video my cat Blue would go walking around the house meowing like he was trying to find them! It was sad and cute at the same time.
HSUS, I just want to thank you guys for what you've done to these poor helpless animals living in hell. You truly are an inspiration, to me in particular as I am wanting to work at a place where you do this sort of stuff because I am a MASSIVE animal lover... Trust me ;) and helping animals is in my blood! I'm 13 and have already saved many animals before like my Pomeranian, ducklings, kittens, birds and many more. I hope my passion stays with me so that I can work with you or Eldad Hager or any one like that! Thank you for reading. :)
Hailey Corrin Hi! Wow, what a brave girl you are for saving all of those animals. We are so happy to hear that you are making a difference. Keep up the great work!
I hope you’ve grown up and kept your passion! There’s always something you can do to help animals even if life has taken you in other directions. You can volunteer at your local shelter, pursue a career helping animals or you can foster. I foster aggressive cats who would be put down otherwise. I rehab them to find good homes! Find where you can help and do amazing things!
+Evelyn S. Did you see how these animals lived? That's not good intention. I come from a family of cat hoarders, trust me, they don't give a shit about the animal's health. It's about control, not love.
I think people get cats out of love and then their own lives (and/or mental & physical health) get out of hand. Though there could be numerous reasons for this.
I got my little pal from the humane society about two months ago and he is the happiest kitten alive! I'm so glad I got to rescue him😊 I hope all of those sweet little kitties got a good home!
Oh they are so beautiful, these kitties. Thanks to these kind people who saved and who handled them so tenderly, thank God. The owners originally must have meant well but could not manage to care for them all, but were perhaps afraid to turn them out thinking they might be put to sleep. Any way, i am so in love with these kitties, and i would adopt these beautiful cute animals if i could. I live thousands of miles away.
I find it amazing how calm many of them seemed. Usually these videos are full of essentially feral cats doing everything they can to get away. That's good news for them, they'll be much more likely to get rehomed!
This made me appreciate my cat even more. Knowing he’s safe from any danger that I rescued him from. I actually rescued him myself he was really malnourished and a kitten he’s now big and a normal weight ❤️
I have a cat that I found and rescued myself. She was pregnant when I got her, so the shelter got the babies out and saved her. The kittens stayed there, and I took Lily(the cat), home with me. I am soooo thankful that I have her😄😌😌😌🙏🙏
I noticed that cat immediately! He looks like my Grey Molly, who is half grey tiger and half Chartreux. A wide face that can make a big smile. The vet calls her a Cheshire cat. Good on you for adopting a cat with special needs.
How do they begin to find enough foster homes for this many cats? And, if they can't find fosters, how do they socialize these guys to they're ready to be adopted?
Hoarding is not about numbers. It’s defined by the condition of the animals and the condition of the place they are kept in. I just watched a video of a guy in Long Island that has 300 cats on his property. He has a very clean home with tons of perches and space for them to roam indoors and outdoors while at the same time they can’t get out of his property. They are all happy, healthy, well fed, social, and fixed. That is the difference.
I do TNR & am feeding what I consider to be a large number of cats but this was crazy. There is no way 1 or 2 people could take care of this many cats. This person (people) just let it go in far too long until they were overwhelmed. Horrible situation for the people AND the animals. Great job guys! ! ! You probably saved the lives of a lot of these cats.
Is it too rash for me to say I want to rescue animals? I feel like it is but I'm overwhelmed with wanting to help these good people and the jobs they do! Videos like this break my heart while mending it.
I was watching this with my cat and half way through the video I looked at him and he had his paws over his eyes when I pulled his paws away from his face he had the saddest expression I have ever seen it’s like he understood what they were going through even though he has been with me since he was born ( literally I watched his mom give birth to him ) so I pause the video and hugged him and explained to him they were going to good homes and they will be much better right now he is in the living room playing with our new kittens we rescued a few weeks ago
If I had the money, time and proper sized big house (unground shelter-hobbit type, because they are big and cheap yet tuff), then I would want to resue as many cats as I could if they could all live in a comfortable, warm, healthy and spaceous house that could still allow my friends, family, wife and myself to live in our own spaces. Also, I would need to beable to afford each of the cat's vet bills and to also figure out at what point is there to many to keep track of, like if one got sick, I would need to beable to know and observe each cat to allow me to properly take care of them. My question is though is, how many is to many? From what I currently think is, depending on how you answer this, if you can provide all that is required from above and some more, then are you good to go? Is 2-5 good? Are people with 24 bad or are people with even 6 okay? Would it be okay for me to have 12-20 if I am even more responsible and loving than a shelter would be? Or, could I never equal that of somone who has 5 cats because I would be too over extended? Any thoughts? I just love helping animals and am doing work for my humane society, but an just tired of seeing animals die. :(
You sound like one of those hoarders. That's how it always starts, rescuing as many cats as you find and bringing them home. Then reality kicks in and you realize you can't help all of them on your own.
I love cats! Seeing this video has shown me that some will start out responsible and loving, but over time, their love turns into obsession and carelessness. This person probably only had a handful of cats. But by not taking care of them and letting them breed recklessly has lead to this torturous life-style. It's heartbreaking. People have to be responsible enough to be reasonable and to not let their fascination turn into a deadly, inhumane case like this.
Also I do understand many are upset, trust me having a cat myself who is my whole world I am too, but you have to try and see things from the hoarders perspective. They think they’re helping them and protecting them. They do not see what is wrong with what they’re doing. It is a very sad and very serious mental problem.
The guy that said: ‘I’m sorry Mumma!’ to the mother cat ..... ❤️ this! He climbed in there the rescue her & her babies, and apologised if he (by accident) hurt her @ all!
this video made me want to cry those poor kitties. people start out with the best intentions but those cats deserve a loving home and when theres that many in one place its hard to care for each one individually. the cat at the end was just loving that lady and this video made me so sad i had to pick up my cat and give her some love
i saw a lot of hate comments and why they put the cats there ( in those tiny cages ) are because they want to make sure all the cats are cured and healthy before they go to new homes :)
Why I personally draw the line at having four cats. If you let good intentions go out of control the results will end up like this and I don't want that for myself or any cat.
I know this is a realllly old video but do you guys post follow ups about the conditions of these cats? Really would like to know how it turned out for them. its been almost 6 years, hope that all have found better homes
I could be wrong but Id guess quite a few of them were put down. most of the kittens would be adoptable but the older sickly cats wouldn't be. hopefully I'm wrong tho
I feel sorry for the cats who had to put up with such poor and unhealthy living environment, but I have to admit it feels like heaven when you open a door and a roomful of those adorable angles start to look at you and go "meow".
in this type of situation some of the cats may be put down due to extreme illness or very bad temperament. it all depends are the funding, available volunteers and foster homes and available space. the organization does the best they can with what they have. they have my total respect for the work they do
Oml I love the big muscly guy with the tatoos and how he carries puppies and kittens when really you would think he’s a big tough biker. He’s such a gentle giant
I saw a news Article where a guy named Jon Conway and his fiancé MacKenzie lived in a house down in West Virginia. They were removed from the home because the house was condemned. They had over 300 cats. The house was boarded up and no one came back for the cats. After a year it went from 300 down to about 75. Apparently the cats started killing each other for food, killing and eating kittens. The 75 that we’re eventually removed were so feral and out of control they were sent to a high kill shelter and put down upon arriving from the house. The ASPCA called it one of the worst cases it’s seen in West Virginia.
I was shocked they were all so friendly to all those strangers, even the moms nursing kittens were willing to be picked up
that because they are highly Socialized cats
Probably because they’re so weak and desperate 😓
Because cat's are very affectionate

This person had the best intentions, but it just got out of hand.
THANK YOU
XD
Agreed. great intentions, poor judgement. Trap / spay / neuter / return (TNR) is the best answer for cat overpopulation.
💜 GOD BLESS YOU ALL FOR SAVING ALL THESE PRECIOUS BEAUTIFUL CAT'S & KITTENS 🐱😇🙏 YOU ARE EARTH ANGEL'S, STAY BLESSED ☺🤗😇😺😻🙏🙏💜💜💜
Holy cow, it's like angels sent to help these poor creatures.
Hello Laure how are you doing happy 😊new year 🎊 god bless you!
Thank you so much GOD BLESS Y'ALL
What kind brave heroic people to go into this home and rescue so many cats in such despicable circumstances. My hat's off.
I'm so grateful to God that through my wife I'm learned to be a loving person to love and hug the animals.. and now we have 19 cats at home..
This is heartbreaking thank god they received the help they needed god bless people that help like this
Oh they are so beautiful, these kitties.
Che dire di voi? Dire che siete meravigliosi è poco! Grazie per aver salvato tutti quei poveri gatti❤
Once the cats are rescued, please someone get some help to the woman who kept them.
My cat that I rescued was in this position a yr ago. It's a hard watch for me. So much respect for these people
Hello Mia Leeann e how are you doing happy 😊new year 🎊 god bless you!
thank you for saving them.
Hello Susan how are you doing happy 😊new year 🎊 god bless you!
After watching this I went to give my kitty a big hug I love her and I wish that all kitties could have a good life
This is so sad. Keep saving lives! great job.
Hello Eddie how are you doing happy 😊new year 🎊 god bless you!
Cats and kittens deserve to be loved and cuddled and kisses
Courage, staying on the task, compassion and activism. These people do amazing work. Let's get on board with Humane...
Hello Cynthia how are you doing happy 😊new year 🎊 god bless you!
Exactly as the lady said: I feel sorry for the people and I feel sorry for the animals...
Thank you for saving them.
im so glad my cat is a rescue
Thank you 🐱❤️
Hello Renee how are you doing happy 😊new year 🎊 god bless you!
You're a kind person, thank you
How do they begin to find enough foster homes for this many cats? And, if they can't find fosters, how do they socialize these guys to they're ready to be adopted?
Hello Charlotte how are you doing happy 😊new year 🎊 god bless you!
So sad! Thank you!!
Hello Cindy how are you doing happy 😊new year 🎊 god bless you!
holy shit, dude..... humane society, you are doing a wonderful job.
Hello Shannon how are you doing happy 😊new year 🎊 god bless you!
20 is the legal limit.
But 2-5 is fine as long as they have proper conditions
You sound like one of those hoarders. That's how it always starts, rescuing as many cats as you find and bringing them home. Then reality kicks in and you realize you can't help all of them on your own.
I love cats! Seeing this video has shown me that some will start out responsible and loving, but over time, their love turns into obsession and carelessness. This person probably only had a handful of cats. But by not taking care of them and letting them breed recklessly has lead to this torturous life-style. It's heartbreaking. People have to be responsible enough to be reasonable and to not let their fascination turn into a deadly, inhumane case like this.
You should foster but only like 2-5
Watching this just broke my heart. This is just animal cruelty.
kudos to all of the people who rescued these cats from a horrible situation.
No animal deserves to be abandoned and treated like that
Hello Diana how are you doing happy 😊new year 🎊 god bless you!
@3:47 I'm so glad the humane society came just in time to save these baby kittens, I'm so happy they won't have to suffer like their mom did
Wow! So happy you saved them🌹
the old lady is a vet working alongside the HSUS team. (: so glad they were able to do something for these animals!
all the cats are beautiful... they deserved to be love and care
i was disturbed when i realized those cats were living next to very sharp tools..
Also I do understand many are upset, trust me having a cat myself who is my whole world I am too, but you have to try and see things from the hoarders perspective. They think they’re helping them and protecting them. They do not see what is wrong with what they’re doing. It is a very sad and very serious mental problem.
Hello Lynette how are you doing happy 😊new year 🎊 god bless you!
If I could I'd adopt all of these cats and give them all the love in the world! ❤️
Quite eerie. Such a relief to see them taken to a better & cleaner environment.
The smell alone would kill me!!Most of these cats were killed, very sad!!
This was heartbreaking, I do have a question how do you know you got all of them?
wow thats really sad, seeing all those animals neglected, i really hope they find a loving family
I know when the animals are seized they see a vet, get mediated, get fixed. So glad. In all States and countries so many that need homes.
Thanks again so much ❤️💋♥️♥️🙏🙏
such beautiful peaceful looking bunch! glad they could be saved! and hopefully soon properly cared for...
i saw a lot of hate comments and why they put the cats there ( in those tiny cages ) are because they want to make sure all the cats are cured and healthy before they go to new homes :)
Why I personally draw the line at having four cats. If you let good intentions go out of control the results will end up like this and I don't want that for myself or any cat.
May God always bless you all 🐈🐾🌻
I know this is a realllly old video but do you guys post follow ups about the conditions of these cats? Really would like to know how it turned out for them. its been almost 6 years, hope that all have found better homes
I could be wrong but Id guess quite a few of them were put down. most of the kittens would be adoptable but the older sickly cats wouldn't be. hopefully I'm wrong tho
I feel sorry for the cats who had to put up with such poor and unhealthy living environment, but I have to admit it feels like heaven when you open a door and a roomful of those adorable angles start to look at you and go "meow".
in this type of situation some of the cats may be put down due to extreme illness or very bad temperament. it all depends are the funding, available volunteers and foster homes and available space. the organization does the best they can with what they have. they have my total respect for the work they do
I'm amazed at how the cats seem used to human contact. I've seen other shows where the cats were terrified.
Oml I love the big muscly guy with the tatoos and how he carries puppies and kittens when really you would think he’s a big tough biker. He’s such a gentle giant
Difficult to watch. Hope they are all rescued and are healthy. My heart goes out to all of them.
Thanks again so much 🙏🙏❤️❤️😇😇
OMG those poor cats, and I was amazed at how friendly they were. Probably knew they were being rescued.
