Quite a few of those companies were based near to my home. Lloyds of Ludlow? I passed their depot almost daily on my way up to the North west, with a stop at the Lazy Trout cafe, for breakfast. great days, thanks for posting.

classic Guy trucks with the motor panels cab, just great, remember them in the 70s as we used to supply engines to them [AEC av 505]. i think they were in Wolverhampton

Great, very informative, was Phil Read a relation to the Forest of Dean Reads, Great lads. I think my question was answered further when I saw Richard and George Read. Good old Rothdeans with
that Berliet.I had the SAVIUM first then the Berliet which was a much better truck, One thing against both in an accident was no interior padding. just steel.Thanks for those memories.

As a little lad I would sit all night at Boots Corner Cheltenham..(Still The A40).and note The Welsh and Foresters take the bend ...Steel up (Fords Dagenham) (Vauxhalls at Luton )...Scrap bales back ...Still active cab happy at 81....!!!!!

I remember my first outings in a 1984 Ford Cargo 0811 in about 1987/88. At the time my Uncle Jim still drove a Foden S26 6x4 tipper drawing away from a new industrial estate being built.
A local food processor ran a Ford D1614 fridge with big tanks on long distance work. The Scania 3 Series was just starting to filter through.
From my School days in the late 70s early 80s I remember Mother's Pride running a Foden S80 trunker with those huge headlamps and Sunblest had just taken delivery of an ERF unit with a big low revving Gardner 240 Straight 8.
Leyland Clydesdales and Buffaloes were everywhere and the Foden FY was starting to emerge. What everyone wanted was Volvo F6/F7 or Daf 2100 and 2300s.

Let me give you more details to qualify what I say I did tramping sleeping across bonnet and seats the heater only blew cold air because it had a 180 Gardner engine which wouldn't pull you out off bed , starting engine from cold was like thick fog it was noisy, uncomfortable had control's like a old bus had a massive steering wheel witch restricted space for the driver probably because there was no power steering, besides that it was ok he lied, 😭
