Nevsky is, as you say, one of the best ships in the game.
I find it's not often used to its potential by mid-skill players because you have to be comfortable with being shot at it in open water - and even be willing to trade some health for positioning, which many are uncomfortable with.
The lowish effective DPM limits it somewhat (probably a good thing!) but 100k in a Nevsky is almost certainly more valuable than 200k in a Hindenberg, for instance.
Now I drool for range mod Nevsky! Thank you PQ for this video, hope we see more "old" tech tree ships played and explained ofc.
Very nice nevsky game! You played forward, supporting your dd's and applying lots of pressure. Stark contrast to the red nevsky, Arrow_of_Achilles, who just sat at back of the map and wanted to farm, not helping his team at all.
Nevsky is a sit back and punish anyone who wants to brawl in. Unfortunately this games days of brawling fun are pretty much non existent. I still do it but my wn8 is trash from it. Not that I'm a bad player just can't stand sitting back and lifting shells at 20km. Absolutely zero enjoyment out of it. Everyone just sits at max range and hardly leaves two squares from their spawn location. Love the videos man
Nevsky is my favorite T10 cruiser. Yep, with range mod. Easily hit DD's at 17 kms like you did here. Set everyone on fire and late game have the speed and range (torps, radar, hydro) to make a big difference. She's awesome. The AP is no joke.

Love it to bits ! Sometimes struggles to do damage but usually is an amazing experience playing it ...
I run mine only at 19km range but gun mod for 5.3s reload. Captain with traverse speed, demolition and heavy sap for 16% fire and 10% extra damage, income fire alert for defense and Radio F for sneaky DDs. I time enemy BBs or CA to overextend and then spam them incoming, the turn and when they try to escape with volley of shells. Its a must get ship. Having the Stalingrad, Nevsky, Moskva and Petro, they all have different strengths.
Hindenberg is THE all rounder good AP damage and pen,ok HE damage,excellent pen and good fire chance,good hp and decent around good speed and torpedoes with a hydro hindenberg can stay back and HE spam,can AP on a broadsiding ship and it has decent armour to lead a push sometimes and torpedos incase its rushing or getting rushed the only really bad thing is the AA but lets be honest most ships AA nowadays dont really kill planes
I call it a shell sponge because even when I've been using British short fuse AP it's over penetrated when full broadside.
My issue with range mod in most ships is that I'd rather play another ship or even another game. The type of gameplay it encourages is just so boring and I don't play for stats.
I love Nevsky but I feel like it shines a lot more in Random Battles where you have a lot of options for targets and a lot of allies to keep the enemy distracted, which allows you to maneuver or buy time for your heals to bring you back. Every time I try to play it in Clan Battles I get demolished by heavy cruisers... Alaska, Napoli, Stalingrad, Petro, even Moskva is hard to deal with for me.
Nevsky has insane turret angles. If you angle well, no cruiser can touch you while you use all turrets, especially because there are very few who can trade with you at range. There's really only Moskva, Stalingrad and Hindy, and none of those have your DPM. If you use IFHE, you do a lot of consistent damage and you still get fires. One on one, none of the cruisers who beat Nevsky in dpm come anywhere near Nevsky with regards to range. It is important to know how to fight each opponent. You out-dpm the heavy hitters, and you outrange the high-dpm ones.

Nevsky is a great cruiser, its concealment is a bit of an issue but she has great utility.
Super strong cruiser. We usually also have one in the clan battles line up. See them regularly at storm+
It is the one ship in nearly every team's line-up for KOTS, but they banned it thia time, so we will see some interesting builds, definitely a lot of hindi's and Goliaths will be in the teams.
Hi Potato! I am newer to WoWs and I am grinding the Des Moines. I am on the Tier 9 Buffalo and I'm not sure how to play it. I did great in the Baltimore but the Buffalo feels like a worse Balti. Figured it would feel like a slightly better Balti. Could you make a video on the Buffalo?
Buffalo isn't easy. You have to play it more like a Pensacola/New Orleans, very different from Baltimore. Be a support ship and don't get greedy for radars. Your goal is to get to the late game.
It is a very bad grind but worth it.
how is he getting 20% fire chance without IFHE? i have the same build and flags but no IFHE and only getting 16%, what am i missing?
im playing lighthouse nevsky. So no concealment and buffs to me if spotted. Instead concealment i play rudder mod2. And it actualy works pretty good im true pain to shoot over 20km :D

Just did a 4 ship kill game qith it, Nevsky is nasty,.just watxh out for Stalingrads, Slavas and Thunderers lol

IFHE cuts fire chance by 50% but only what would normally pen. The part that pens because of it will get normal fire chance, as not pening HE get 50% fire chance.
Whether a shell pens or not does not affect fire chance. 10% fire chance is 10% even if the shell shatters.

When I played, before subs and superships ruined the fun for me, I preferred Des Moines, Moskva, and Napoli over Nevsky. I liked Smolensk, nerfed even, over Nevsky.
I mean I take reload on most ships I take range on the Slava for the extra dispersion it gives due to war gaming interesting coding
I use range mod too! I do way better with it. With the shell speed it is still easy to land reliable hits at long range on most ships!
Opinion on AA instead of IFHE+DE?
No sir, the AA wont stop any CVs, run DE your UFHE wont penetrate t11 superships but with de and heavy /aphe you van burn down bbs and blap cruisers.
The reality is: you get blasted as hell like the woorcester
What about the torpedos? Bad dispersion? The dispersion from what I saw was great you were hitting more then half the shells!
8km torps and the dispersion is standard cruiser dispersion, no idea what he is complaining about
At yes the “light” cruiser Nevsky. The T10 cruiser that makes the “heavy” T10 cruiser Zao cry with basically EVERY statistic except dispersion
The Nevsky *is* a heavy cruiser, with heavy cruiser guns. The only reason it's classified as a light cruiser in game is because it can't pen 30mm plating. There are no upsides to being designated a CL, it just means it gets weaker extremity plating, it doesn't even get the 1/5 HE pen that is standard on tier 8+ CLs.
And the Zao is a bit of a poor comparison point given it's one of the most power crept tier 10s.
She's like the Grozovoi of cruisers. Very solid at almost everything, but its worst aspect is its damage alpha.

@@Tony_Franchitti Damage alpha is how much raw damage each individual shell does. For example, Japanese cruiser HE shells are known for having the highest alpha among their peers. US cruisers has among the worst HE alpha in the game, but they are balanced by having a faster firing speed.

@@shoukatsukai nah, US HE shells are pretty average in alpha damage in most calibers. German cruisers (and ships in general) have low HE alpha

90 percent of the game you didnt use your extra range you choosed 6th instead of reload mod, i think range mod is useless
This game is a great example why I don't love Nevsky. Non stop shooting 6 ships dunked with finishing kills and only 151 thousand damage. Good game but you had shells in the air at all times and only 300 hits. Only 300 hits ha like that sucks but still didn't it feel like the damage was lite? It took awhile to kill YY and you were point blank. I know it's a very good ship and I don't like fighting it when a good skipper is on board but I just don't play it well. It seems to take forever to do meaningful damage "for me". I don't hate it I just suck playing it.
This is no counterplay to Nevsky if player knows this shipe
I gave up going up the Soviet tech tree after Tier VI. Awful, awful experience. The nevsky was my original goal, but I since switched to the British light cruiser tree and havent looked back since. I also dislike the Russian rail-guns. It requires absolute open water, any islands in the way and you can forget about hitting anything.

why? I mean sure the nevsky is a good cruiser, but is it really worth the grind? I dont know. Im on the British CL line and Im actually having fun, even without the HE spam. My smokes give me amazing tactical versatility and I dont just sit back and farm damage like almost every other cruiser in the game.
Budyonny is crap tactic, but they do get better!
You can play few (probably 15-20 games) with blue or red booster in Ops to quickly gain access to T9. For me, T5-T8 USSR lines are awful, except Tallin.
Nevsky isn't a good AA ship...it only has good flak.
Seriously, go look at LWMs AA comparison...and take it from this CV enjoyer, Nevsky is heavily dependent on the enemy plane flyer not knowing how to dodge flak. Her constant DPS isn't scary.
Even with a full AA build? Looking at the numbers this should be one of the best AA ships in the game given the range of the AA at 6.9 and potential for 11 flak. I know a competent CV can avoid flak
Yesterday I did 34k dmg to a Nevsky with a single AP bomber attack (Malta). He was stationary though

Nevsky is awesome until you see a submarine. Imagine attempting to drop depth charges on top of a submarine with this this thing. It's sad and shows the glaring oversights in the game mechanics we have to deal with.

so i think i get it, a CC is a person that encourages people to delve into the game, bringing to light ships the average player otherwise wouldnt go for. for me i wont delve into it because i am a seasoned war gaming player that knows EVERY single tech tree line is a minefield, one or or even three tanks or ships you research will be a beeeeotch to get through. but here you are at the end highlighting the reward of said slavery. who you foolin and whats your pay for making your silky smooth potato pitch for us to take us such a task? you may not know this is what your videos do to people, but war gaming seriously knows it and wants you to keep this up so weeeee spend muneee
Bit of a wierd response. If your a 'seasoned player', then you already have the Nevsky. Tech tree ships are free and again if your a 'seasoned player', your probably not giving them money anymore. Once you get most of the tech trees Completed and you play a few games each day you get so many bonuses there is no need to spend money. Oh no, you didn't like every ship in the line... So playing it is akin to slavery? These videos are a clear and descriptive look at the ships so that players can make a decision on which lines to prioritise and/or learn some new tricks on how to play the ship.
