2013 Mazda CX5 won't shut off the way off

  • Here is a step by step video on how to replace the Shift Sensor out of a 2013 Mazda CX5. Car wouldn't shut down all the way. The engine would shut off but the auxiliaries would stay on, heat/air, radio, etc. This was the problem, haven't had a issue since replacing the switch.

    Quick and easy with this video.
    My notes from doing this:
    A) It can be done without removing the console surround, but you will need a stubby Phillips screw ratchet and need some Pick Tools to release the switch assembly after the two screws are out.
    B) Once the switch is out, it can be rotated up and forward so the plug is easier to access and pull out.
    C) Note: The Metal bracket is the support for the rubber-coated tray.

    I used your video and repaired the old switch with super glue and baking soda. It cost me about $0.50 in materials, and about an hour of my time.

      @@mb3775 If you mix superglue and baking soda it cures very quickly and very hard, so you can apply the superglue in a thick layer in the worn groove. Standard superglue won't cure if it is too thick. Once it has dried (only takes minutes) you can sand it down to the original shape.

  • @peter5230

    The cause of the whole problem is not a damaged module, but a worn piece of rubber on the button, which you can even see in the video. It is enough to glue it with a hard glue to make it work properly again.

      where in the video? Timestamp?

    • @peter5230
      @peter5230 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@knexfan100 you can pause the movie in time 3:14 and see this black button, it has a rubber cap, just cover it with hard epoxy resin glue.
      I also had such a problem and a few weeks ago I fixed this way by hardening the rubber with glue. And I have no problem with the radio when turning off the car.

    Before everybody goes out and starts spending $70.00 and time doing this repair.... try slowing down your shifting motion into park. I did just that, and I have not had the problem again.The wearing sensor seems to pick up the action when slowed down. It may eventually give out at some point, but at least it will buy you some time for a while.

    • @grizzlygreg8922
      @grizzlygreg8922  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly right, My wife messed around with it for almost a year until it eventually just quit working, cold weather seemed to make it worse then spring came and got better till the following winter lol

    I have the same issue, but my one turn of Air-conditioning air flow, indicators stop working as well, when I push start button few time everything work okay, don't know whether replacing this part will help resolve all my issue ?

    • @grizzlygreg8922
      @grizzlygreg8922  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say the Shift Switch would not have anything to do with the air conditioning. That would be a possible loose connection somewhere maybe or a relay or fuse that is ready to blow or works when it wants too
