I rent and my new house is all electric, but I had a carbon monoxide detector, so I plugged it in the garage. My friend was working on my car in the dead of winter and I heard the alarm. I ran in there and the silly had the car running with the garage door closed. He was sitting in the corner "asleep" right next to the alarm. When I opened the kitchen door the CO hit me, so I hit the garage door opener and fresh poured in. That alarm saved his life. So even if you have all electric, put a CO detector in your garage. It might save your handyman's life too. ❤🌅🌵😷
@@julietannOsfan1972, some places in the USA it's a law and they make you have one.... but in many places there's no regulations or if there are regulations, there's no enforcement. (which is really sad that people have to die before they enforce the regulations.) ❤🌅🌵😷
Gosh I need you but I live in Oklahoma. I'm a wife/caregiver of my mother who has Alzheimer and stage 3 lung cancer and I've been raising a 12yr old ADHD grandson who is a cancer survivor. Lord help me I need Organization. I've been trying but slowly getting there. Any way I just love watching you.. You always brighten my day and make me giggle.
Congrats about the second season!! I'm so glad HGTV is doing more episodes The show was amazing!!!! And I like that it's different from this stuff they usually do. More realistic more down-to-earth and more attainable. That's cool that you get a contractor to work with! I really hope that they keep the contractor stuff simple though so that it's things that real people can actually do at home.
Totally want to see more of the How to Adult!!! Reminders for all us struggling! Let's see more when snow hits. How to drive in snow, prevent ice, chapped hands etc... This could be a thing. All the things the unicorns know how to do automatically.
You, you, beautiful you. Not boring at all... Hilarious, real and helpfull in so many ways. You are truly a blessing to so many people. Aren’t we our own worst critic? Yes we are! 😅 Let’s change that. Let us compliment ourselves in the morning, in the evening, in the afternoon. Even if we don’t feel it, till we BELIEVE it! 😍❤️
Hey! Because of your health updates I decided to go get checked out. I am having lower back pain on one side. So far the blood tests are showing something is wrong and we are narrowing down what it could be. Anyway, thank you for sharing. It made me decide to just ask for help instead of waiting until it got really bad!!
I've always lived in Southern California and never knew winterizing was a thing until I saw Martha Stewart do it many many years ago. The whole adventure seemed so foreign to me, and the one task that still sticks in the back of my mind is when she protected her shrubs. She put a few tall stakes in the ground around the shrub and then wrapped burlap (or something similar?) around it. I was stunned...and very grateful that I didn't live somewhere that required that much winter prep. I guess I'm just lazy!😄
Eeeeeeek I've never detached the dryer hose part, in 3+ years. You on HGTV is not bananas, it's 🎵B-A-N-A-N-A-S 🎶🎵 (No Doubt/Gwen Stefani). You got this! Now I need to get cable.
I found your channel in Roku during covid. I LOVE organizing and literary for months I'd watch your channel every day to the point my husband would come home and say, " let me guess, you're watching your Clutterbug. " I love your personality, your sense of humor, your ideas, your 'at the end' videos . I'M SOOOOOO EXCITED FOR YOUtk have this dream 😍
So happy your show is coming back. Girl if you were boring you wouldn't have a show. You are awesome and deserve it and totally worth it. I think you are awesome and I love all your videos. Keep kicking ass girl 👍😀
I live in Indiana so my husband and I started this process last week. We did our dryer vent and also took the dryer apart and vacuumed the lint from the bottom. One thing I learned when putting on a new vent hose was not to use traditional duct tape because it can be flammable! There is a foil tape that you’re supposed to use instead. Also, certain types of hoses are flammable! 🤦🏼♀️
Congratulations on the show renewal! You are amazing and don’t forget this! You are also blessed to have the opportunity on HGTV. Glad you are grateful. New York though? Was hoping Discovery had figured out the flyover states are the heart of what gets people watching. But I’m you find some people with heart. ❤️
Sometimes I really wonder how some things can be so different between North America and Europe... like heatings systems... never saw this kind of blowing warm air kind of heating around here. We usually heat with hot water running in pipes under the floors or in older houses you have radiators. So no vents to adjust ☺️ Same with dryer hose. Never seen this kind of dryer-system. But cleaning gutters and so on works here too. Not to forget to shut down outside watertaps since the waterline could burst when freezing. Liked the video and I am exited about your second season at HGTV 👍
@@mgm2008 our dryers have a long compartment where the detergent would go in a front-loader washing machine. In there the water steam from the wet clothes condensates. So at the end you just pull the compartment out and dumb the water in a sink/your garden. No outside connection needed :) Literal translation from German would be "condensation dryer"
@@LingLingW We have both kinds of dryers here in Europe. Exhaust as well as consensation dryers. One is not necessarily more prevalent than another in The Netherlands.
@@amara560 good to know. I've never seen an exhaust dryer in any of my family's or friends' homes. On the other hand I don't necessarily search out the dryer situation in others' homes 😅. Plus most of my age-group friends (25-35) don't have any kind of dryer. At the moment I'm at my grandpa's house, maybe the old cellar has an exhaust. I will be going on a cellar adventure today 😍
Another tip is to have a $ tree tarp in your vehicle and when you are home for the evening, put the tarp over your windshield and close the ends in the doors on either sides (driver and passenger doors). In the morning the ice/snow will be on the tarp and not on the windshield so you do not have to scrape the windshield in the morning
I have never seen your front yard or front of your house. So beautiful! We need to clean our gutters and the dryer vent. Ugh ha ha I am so excited for your second season! Hot Mess House woot woot!
Your channel makes me smile with each video! Thank you! I felt the need to comment about closing the vents, though. Our furnace guy (sorry, don't know his name), said that closing the vents will shorten the life of the furnace (or AC), because they are designed to move a certain amount of air throughout the house. He recommended closing doors to our rooms, instead. I admit, our bedroom, which is on the north end of our house, gets REALLY cold, and it is SO tempting to shut the vents in the other rooms, sending more heat to our bedroom. He really was strong about keeping vents opened, though. If you discover otherwise, I would appreciate what you find out! Thank you for being such a cheerful addition to my days!
Well! Now I know a whole bunch about what it takes to live with snow. And now I also know why I would never choose to live where it snows! We have so little snow in Australia that I do none of these things to get ready for winter. We clean out the gutters at the start of summer in preparation for bushfire season, because we're in a semi-rural area that has a high fire risk. We didn't even do that when we lived in the suburbs.
I enjoy your channel. My husband said to tell you he writes the date he changed the filter right on it with magic marker, so he can look at it andtell when he last changed it.
I could totally see it!! I've been telling people how amazing you are for years! It's about time the world sees it 😍 I brought loads of my family members your books for Christmas last year- think a few were insulted at first but a few thanked me months after 😅
I know right 🤣🤣 The first year I sent one to my new sister in law and I'd never seen her house so I put in a little note saying "Please don't be insulted, I'm sure you're much tidier than me but I wish someone gave me this when I had my first home"
It's cold outside? Lucky you! Here in Arizona, we had something like 143 days of triple digit degrees. This week we have finally "cooled off" into the 90s. How I long for four seasons . . . However, all of your suggestions are SO useful! Thank you so much!
@Clutterbug We love how you think about things, and I love that you make things feel better! And we love your household tips! You're no ordinary person... you're my favorite, and I'm grateful so much for you, and what you do!

Adulting tips for new adults (or old adults who never grew up) is an awesome idea for a series! The hose thing was a hard lesson to learn one winter. Our pipes froze right at the hose tap and blocked the pressure from the rest of the house.
Last spring was the 1st time I've ever cleaned out my dryer hose. We also cleaned out the hole part that goes outside. Clothes now dry faster...just when I thought we needed a new dryer. 🤷🏽♂️ never knew
I just researched closing vents and whatnot for temperature regulation a couple of weeks ago (I live in the desert, so I was dealing with the flip side - keeping things cool) with the hopes of saving money. Across the board, every site I went to claimed this can be really hard on the air ducts because closing it causes a lot of backflow and what money you save might eventually get put back into replacing the system... so it's not recommended. It was a bummer. I just wanted to throw that on your radar in case you might face the same problems with your heating system. Love your videos!
I have heard this, but we have done this for years and years. If we don't our upstairs is sooo hot and our basement is so cold. This way, only our basement is heated fully and as the heat rises, our upstairs maintains the same temp. Without doing this, we would have to run a lot of space heaters in the basement or have the upstairs really hot.
I've never had central air, but I had recently heard that warning about closing the vents. ( it made me sad, because I do anticipate having central air in the future) I popped down here to the comments to see if anyone had mentioned it. 👍🏻😁
Yes our home inspector saw that previous owners had vents closed and told me not to do that. Our HVAC guy said the same when I got a quote for new system too.
We have a significant date (anniversary / birthday, whatever) for changing our smoke alarm batteries every year. That way they never get forgotten and we are sure the batteries are fresh. Great tips for the other seasonal maintenance.
Great news on the HGTV show. I'll have to have my BFF tape it again for me. TFS and as we moved from Buffalo, NY I remember all the winter prep..........now in eastern NC and no prepping here!!!! Take care..........
Thanks for this video. I just made my husband a "honey do" list based on your list of tasks. He has a three day weekend. Also on this list is to clean out our basement window wells (they get trash and stuff blown in them) and to clean and cover the BBQ grill and smoker.
You are more than lucky 🍀, you are blessed and I love watching you since 2015 so proud of you to be on HGTV it’s my favorite and I would love to be there someday, so yes they are just normal people doing amazing things to give back life to our homes!
I’ve followed you since your Clutterbug Tv Channel on Roku....you are Fantastic .....your ideas are great, you are looking soooooo good...you’re beautiful! your hair looks beautiful, your skin is glows, and just look gorgeous.... you must be doing something right! Proud of you and your success!
Congrats on your second season of Hot Mess House! I just found your channel a week ago and watched your show On Demand. Love that you are real, relatable and Canadian....
I’ve been following you for the longest time and you are a huge inspiration. I’m so happy good things are happening to you, hard work pays off. You are amazing!
These are really great tips! You are so good at making me laugh and smile in such a serious world. Please don't ever get serious on us, your sillyness is so needed! ❤
One of the most useful videos you have ever put out! And that is coming from a super fan. We have to do all this stuff before the official start of the winter...but I'm due with another baby in 2 weeks. First thing's first: hang up privacy film on our windows so the weirdo next door cannot spy on us any more.
I'm so glad he helped you this time! I'm sure he helps you more than we all know but you've been doing SO much and had too many surgeries. Keep up the good work but take care of yourself, too!
Great tips! We actually had someone come out to clean our dryer vent. We have a 2nd floor laundry and it's difficult for us to get in there so for $120 I felt OK getting a pro in :) He found a lot of junk!!
You are gorgeous Cass and so dedicated at everything you do, you definitely deserve HGTV and much much more.. many blessing to you and your beautiful family from Houston 🤗👍
Congratulations on the show! 6 new episodes, that's great! I wish I lived in that area so I could be chosen. Good luck and break a leg (not literally though) ❤❤❤
Commercial hvac system filters are changed every 4 months. Super dusty areas, they could be changed monthly. I changed my home to a quarterly schedule. We saw our energy bill go down, so saving money, and home air is cleaner!
I suspect the dryer fire thing happens more often in winter because so many people opt to hang their clothes rather than running the expensive dryer every time during warmer months
*Applause!* You deserve this... by the way, your home is lovely. A lot of us would envy your wonderful home environment. Congratulations and good luck!
Alright, one tip about the CO-detector. It has a filter that expires after 7 years. So the battery can still work, but it does not detect anything. So pro-tip! Write down the date on the thing and after 7 years you can replace it. Be safe!
Ahhhhhh!!! I'm SO EXCITED FOR YOU CASS!!!!!!!!! CONGRATS ON MORE EPISODES TO COME!!!!! And YOU ARE FAR FROM BORING!!!!! LOL I look forward to seeing all you new episodes, whether it's here or on HGTV. Thank you for all YOU DO. Unfortunately I'm in Wisconsin, I could really use the help, I'm an empty nester.🥺😭
Loved the video. For the HVAC things: Instead of opening/closing vents, you should open/close the dampers on the system ducts to regulate the system. Furnace filters should be replaced at different intervals depending on size, MARV rating, and furnace/AC usage, from every month (cheap 1" filters) to once per year for a media filter.
I need to do my dryer vent. I will have my hubby do the gutters because I am also afraid of heights lol.. I hope hope hope you can come to my house in upstate NY.
I thought this was a super helpful video...reminding me of things we need to take care of before the holidays! Congrats on Hot Mess House...can't wait to watch new episodes!
Ziploc has there huge bags for sweaters and blankets that would work for the outdoor pillows. In addition they zip so that can really keep out bugs and rodents (if they don't chew through). You can also get a cheaper version at the Dollar General.
Cas!!!! You are far from a average boring ole mom! Or how ever you said it! You’re kinda like an inspiration! You the have chutzpah to make a change (see all your books on decluttering)! You have the tenacity to get things done (see your Clutterbug Philosophy) all while having a spectacular personality!! Not to mention You’re a small business woman, a mom, a friend, a daughter, a wife, I don’t know if you have siblings but most people do so I’m gonna say a sibling, an aunt, a cousin and so much more!!! We all have insecurities! You don’t have to listen to them you can hear them and tell them, yeah, but look what I have done! Seriously 99% of people do, I firmly believe this. Well, I don’t know about men they’re a completely different species and they confuse me, I digress! My point, my point is you’re taking those insecurities or doubts or whatever and still doing exciting and new things. I've never had central air, but I had recently heard that warning about closing the vents. ( it made me sad, because I do anticipate having central air in the future)
I popped down here to the comments to see if anyone had mentioned it.
👍🏻😁
This is what my hvac guy told me as well.
Yes our home inspector saw that previous owners had vents closed and told me not to do that. Our HVAC guy said the same when I got a quote for new system too.
Congratulations Cass! So stoked for you!
I’m so happy for you regarding your “second season” Congratulations
You are more than lucky 🍀, you are blessed and I love watching you since 2015 so proud of you to be on HGTV it’s my favorite and I would love to be there someday, so yes they are just normal people doing amazing things to give back life to our homes!
What a beautiful house, yard, and neighborhood!
As a new homeowner this is such a helpful video! Thanks Cas! ❤️
You're welcome! I'm glad you found the video helpful!
CONGRATULATIONS CAS!!! SO PROUD OF YOU!! You deserve every bit of all of this greatness!!!
A good PSA thanks! Please take care of yourself, you mentioned that you had post op pain. Health first :).
Yes! More adult-ing videos please 🙏!! This one was great! Thank you!
One of the most useful videos you have ever put out! And that is coming from a super fan. We have to do all this stuff before the official start of the winter...but I'm due with another baby in 2 weeks. First thing's first: hang up privacy film on our windows so the weirdo next door cannot spy on us any more.
❤️❤️❤️
I'm so glad he helped you this time! I'm sure he helps you more than we all know but you've been doing SO much and had too many surgeries. Keep up the good work but take care of yourself, too!
CONGRATULATIONS, so happy for you!!!
Oh so glad!!!! It was my hope that we could have another round! I love the show!!!! Love you!!!!🌹🌹🌹great info today too!!! Come to Cali please!!!!
Congrats on your show. You are so worthy!!!!!
So glad you have a season 2!!! Now more people get to enjoy your wisdom.
Looking forward to seeing more episodes of your show. Congratulations 🎉🎊!
YES....Joe definitely should be doing the gutters!! 😁 I have 4 pets and change my furnace filters every 6 to 8 weeks! Tks for another great video!!
Me, watching this from Arizona when it’s still 100 degrees. 😂
What is this winter people speak of? (Lives in So Cal and is ready to stop using the a/c)
Watching from Florida! 🤣
Ditto, Texas
Yeah, Southern Florida, and high humidity. We're lucky though.
Me too!
Alright, one tip about the CO-detector. It has a filter that expires after 7 years. So the battery can still work, but it does not detect anything. So pro-tip! Write down the date on the thing and after 7 years you can replace it. Be safe!
Wow. I did not know this! One of my CO detectors is probably more than 7 years old. Thank you.
Great information and reminders. Congratulations on another season of your TV show. Looking forward to them. XO❤
Adulting sucks but its gotta be done. I wanna send this video to my hubby but he might get mad. I love your laundry room 🍁🧡🍂
Yay I am so excited for the show! You are awesome because you are just so relatable and make things seem possible and even fun! 💕
Congratulations! “Hot Mess House” is the best show we have ever seen!!! We love you!
We had to watch the hose flinging scene 5 times! 😂🤣
🥰 Jennifer
Us, your followers we get to watch, we get to see you grow and we are so happy for you!!! Plus, we get to tag along with you! I know from the bottom of my heart that all of us who watch you are so incredibly happy for you and love you so very much!!!! The real people that is, not the thumb down people, I mean who are those people?!?! Sooooo excited to watch more of Hot Mess!! Seriously, I was doing the happy dance in my chair for you!! I was also clapping in my living room all by myself for you!! Tell Joe, great job encouraging Cas up the ladder!!
I just wanna say, Cass, I live in Texas and there’s absolutely no reason to winterize anything here, but anytime I see your videos I go 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I don’t care what it is… I’m gonna watch you winterize your house and then stay to the end! Love your channel. (PS. I’m terrified of heights, too. I won’t even get on a step ladder. 😉)
You look so cute and I really like your hair like that! You have such great videos. Thanks for sharing them with us
Thank you so much for this great video things to do. Never thought of doing some of them. So excited that your going to do a second season on Hot mess home. Unfortunately I wont be able to watch you since I don't have cable:(
Congratulations for your show. Your the best and one of my very favorite youtuber. You deserve being on tv. Because you have great information ideas in organizing and everything you do and know.😘👍👏🤗🥰♥️
Congratulations on your second season! I’m so excited for you! Thoughts and dreams do create!!You’re now seeing the evidence of all your visualization. Great job!
PS: You’re not boring! You are fun, entertaining, and you’re teaching us how to live our best life. Thank you for that. 💜
