Short curtains in the dining--I am going to shorten them because as long curtains they overwhelm the room despite its 8 foot ceilings. Long curtains in the living room are a must.

@@tarynmaria_ I love the fact that you let us know that you have done, (in your learning experience), some of the things in your home that some of us are possibly doing.
      You are not being,
“holier-than-thou” and judging anyone. We are all learning new ways of doing things all of the time. I also realize that you are, (basically), saying, if something works for US, then that is ok too.
You are simply showing us that which you have learned and if we want to incorporate something you have learned into our homes, that is ok.
I really appreciate you’re letting us know what you have learned, that works for you.🌺

A family member used to be critical of my uncle and aunt's home decor because "it never changes and always looks the same." The home was mid century and my uncle was an architect so the home really does not look outdated. It has nice decoratives that were thoughtfully purchased and rotated out for the seasons. There is something wonderful and homey about that timeless "sameness." 😂

This is my first time watching your channel. I think there are probably many women that agree with most of what you view as cheap. However, I think and hope there are just as many women out there like me, that as we get older, not old, we have learned that life is hard enough trying to keep stress low and inspire happiness in our surroundings and with the people in our lives. Everyone has different tastes. I think patterned comforters, long vs short curtains etc... all depends on what else is in the room and what the patterns are.. there are very soft colors and patterns that are soothing for those who desire and need tranquility to keep depression/anxiety at bay. Some women that have lost their spouses and no longer have to have their bedrooms or homes look suitable for a man and woman.. she can have whatever style pleases her.. determining cheap vs not cheap is in the eye of the beholder... keeping up with the Jones has been what has gotten most of our society in the unloving and uncaring state and rat race for money that is in the world today. Many women and families prefer cozy, homey, comfy environment with soothing decor,, not caring about if it makes the room look larger or if the pattern might look to busy for some... I think it would be such a boring world if we all changed our homes to these guidelines so they wouldn't look "cheap" in others eyes.. then all of our homes would truly be cookie cutter! lol Just wanted to use my freedom to give a different perspective.. I love that you are confident and feel at ease to share with us and I feel comfortable to do the same.. life is beautiful... Have a blessed week!! I subscribed to your channel..

I feel more to the point is to get over our insecurities and not care what others think of our taste. These decor decisions sound more like high school mean girls : when you are tired of your stuff switch it out and have a blast searching for the replacement but fretting over the judgement of people we invite into our homes…. Really, ditch those “friends”, better yet, let them dump you to search out souls as equally shallow as themselves.

My husband and i scraped every inch of popcorn ceiling in our house. It was hard work and such a mess. But at the end of it, i was floored at how much taller my ceilings felt even though there was maybe 1/4" of popcorn. I think it has to do with all of the tiny shadows cast. Also, i was surprised to learn it was a sound dampener! Anyway, no regrets. Glad we did it ourselves. A contractor quoted us $5k. We spent a little over $500 on drop cloths, scrapers, sprayers, and some of those stilt thingies, paint, and drywall.

I just do NOT get the grommet hate. I think some folks think they want to be part of the cool kids group aka "designer" click by hating on grommet drapes. 🙄The issue isn't the grommets. The issue is people are cheap and don't want to buy enough panels. Also, the grommets need to match the rod 🤔

I agree. In addition to the width or number of the panels to cover the window adequately, hang the rod as high as you can. There’s no point in trying to get that expanse look by having the drapes reach the floor if the rod is sitting just above the window frame.

That is a good solution as long as the ceiling is tested--lead is not the issue with popcorn ceilings as much as asbestos is. Our house is over 100 years old and the living room ceiling is popcorn, which makes me very unhappy. That noted, it would cost three or four thousand dollars to remove it in a safe manner (asbestos method). I agree with most of what you've listed here. I do make an exception for a nice quality dust ruffle that falls in heavy pleats. In talking about rugs, I'd like to add buying rugs that are too small for the space is very cheap looking. In talking about artwork...hanging a picture too high cheapens the look. In talking about curtains...buying panels that are too narrow for the window width is very cheap looking as is hanging the rod right at the window frame. Also, scrapes, dirt and chips on wall paint will instantly give a cheap appearance. Finally, popcorn ceilings get a bad rap. If they are kept clean and freshly painted, I think they're just fine. I consider myself as having very good taste and have been asked who does my interior decorating! But, I was shocked to find out an expensive media center I bought 20 years ago was “out”! It was purchased because the room it was in was oddly shaped. I loved it and it was still in new condition. When I redid the room, I moved it to the “man cave” because I could not sell it or give it away and it had been expensive and in such good condition!
Another issue in homes is artwork that is hung way too high. It is meant to be hung at eye level so viewers enjoy it.

Be careful with carpet pads with LVP floors. Be sure to read warnings on various pads. Also, we removed our bed skirt, purchased new mattress, box springs, not realizing the taller springs made our custom spread too short. I finally discovered there is an extra large queen size spread. Perfect size! But, one simple change can lead to another problem.

Even plain carpet can damage floors depending on the interaction between the yarn dyes, the carpet backing, and the flooring material. I love the restrained use of quality area rugs in my decor, and use thin anti-slip mats beneath, but check twice a year that no adverse reactions are underway (or after using a carpet cleaner because of the addition of those chemical agents).

Dust ruffles??? 🤔 Never heard bed skirts called that. If you like the cottage look, bed skirts go very well with that, if you choose. Plus, with today's super tall beds (because of the extra thick mattresses), beds can look very out of proportion and awkward with no bed skirt. But you choose. No one else will much care. I don't find bed skirts difficult to care for.

If you have someone with poor eyesight. or Alzheimer’s/ dementia These can help people found the toilet on their own. I like curtains to end either just below the sill (not halfway between the sill and the floor) or just above the ground. And the rail should be just above the window, not a foot higher, unless there is also a pelmet to cover the gap. I wish I could afford louvred wooden shutters.
And I hate bathroom pedestal mats. The idea of pee drying on them is nauseating. At least if it’s on the floor it can be seen and cleaned up.
