    Like seeing the restoration. Would have rather heard four CFM's than guitars, though.

    • @tiadaid
      @tiadaid 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      CFM sounds boring, since every 737/A320 has it. If it's a JT8D or a JT3D however, then I'd prefer to hear those.

      @@tiadaid there is a 727 that fly's out of Alliance Fort Worth and every time it takes off I turn to look for the F/A-18 and its that 727 with its JT8D's screaming rattling the buildings.

      Regardless I'm so glad this video exists. Its not often that restoration companies document this cool stuff.

      @@tiadaid don't agree with this. this sounds way different than cfm engines on a 737 and a320.

    With her CFM-56's one of the sexiest birds I've ever seen she stole my heart! Remember turning number 3 turbine just prior to pushback like it was yesterday.

    I miss flying the DC-8. I flew 50, 60 and 70 series. My first 4 engine type rating. Flew them all over the world. My last Dc-8 flight was april, 2000. Finished my career on the 747. Thanks for the video.

    The engine upgrade makes this airplane look so beautiful.

      @roughas100 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So I'm guessing the engine upgrade made it more fuel efficient? Didn't notice any black smoke ......... kind of prefer the louder low bypass engines.

      Fundamentally disagree aesthetics-wise, but the CFM's make sense from an operating cost standpoint.

    I like that plane.a.lot. I like to watch airplanes through the skies.since I have.memory, like 4 yrs old (back in 1992). Back then, LAN Chile (later LAN, now LATAM) , Ladeco, and Fast Air Cargo operated this aircraft. Of.course using the previous engine. I really missed it once suddenly.stopped seeing it flying over us in the 90s, when it was replaced by 767s. Too good to see it still flying in.other places of the world~

    I love this video, DC-8 and the fact that this aircraft is going to fly again thanks to matanance people. But I really don't like the music. Aviation lovers love to hear those engines, tires, bells and whistles in the cocptit...

  • @al2498
    @al2498 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why I love that video? Look at these 'old' guys, from the DC-8 / 707 era, and how the fight to reanimate that plane. They all seem to were already retired and now they are returning. Of course the do some things only for the camera - and the music at the end is terrible - but forget that.

  • @TheSymbolGenerator

    Why do people feel they have to put music on aircraft videos? Otherwise the video is great with sound off.

  • @awuma

    My understanding is that DC-8's are much less limited by fatigue lifetime than other jets. NASA flies a beautiful one all over the world. Let's hope there are still pilots around who can fly on steam gauges :-)

    • @orestes1984
      @orestes1984 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      By this point, the DC-8 7x in storage have less fatigue life than the equivalent 767 which is why they're being reactivated. They became slightly less efficient for PAX due to their four engines but cargo airlines don't care so much about that.

    • @orestes1984
      @orestes1984 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting concept, the DC-8 is within 1-2% fuel burn of the 767 on the other hand, its smaller, narrower, has four engines, and I'm not particularly sure how easy it would be to get parts for.

    Interesting at 3:03 into the video it shows the Capt pushing the thrust levers waaaay too far forward to taxi and his left hand is on the control wheel......while still on the ramp, which no Capt would ever do....his left hand would be on the tiller......aaaand all four fuel cut off switches are in cut off.....sooo none of the engines are running......I guess that shot was for the video.....just something from a guy who flew DC-8's for 14 years.......

    Finding spare parts must be pain in the ass and no restoration could bring a plane back to zero hour. But why DC-8? I don't think Skybus couldn't afford some recent model.
