    You're completely out of your comfort zone and it shows quite well. So I'll drop my 2 cents on the way out! ;-)
    Forget all that bullocks stories of warming up the engine, bla, bla... Start with the "oil", finish with the "oil". Or in other words crack open the sump plug, let it drain. Crack open and undo the oil filter, but leave it draining in place! Pulling the deep stick and/or the oil cap its fine. BTW leaving the deep stick laying on the engine is an excellent reminder of the ongoing operation! ;-)
    MEANWHILE go do everything else you have planned. Like air filter, cabin filter, etc. When the rest is done simply swap the oil filter, now completely drained (dry). Put the sump plug in place . Add oil as needed. Voilà, done. Without creating a mess or spilling oil all over the place. All with the old oil well drained! These PSA engines are quite easy to work on, with the proper tips or sequences it's a breeze!
    Oh! Worth mention. The old cabin air filter was an activated carbon filter. Usually used to help suppress smells. That's why it's so black, compared to the cheap non carbon filter you replaced.
    One last tip. Use the minimum number/length of extensions needed for the job at hand. It will make your life easier. Best of luck, Cheers

    Hi Nigel,
    Again a very clear video.
    Just few details:
    1) I usually put the floor pan back after re-filling. That allows to verify that there is no oil leakage.
    2) the pollen filter is hidden behind the ashtray when the steering wheel is on the left side. One must remove the accelerator pedal to access it. Quite difficult !
    3) I do agree with DoubleZeroUK : your pollen filter was not so dirty, it was an activated carbon filter. The new one is a standard one.
    Nevertheless, this video is probably the best one available on TH-cam. Thanks a lot Nigel !
    See you,
    JBK

    Use a couple of bricks on the front wheels if jacking the rear to stop the car rolling, otherwise make sure the handbrake is on. I jack up on the sills under the doors but near to the wheel arches. If you look you will see indentations, they are the jacking points. Put the axle stand in beside the jack and lower the jack so the car rest on the stand. If you search google you will find pictures.

    Great video!
    I've just done a full service on my Mondeo and found the section showing how to access the cabin filter was very helpful.
    The engineers designing this car must have been in different countries and communicating by text message, I can't understand how they managed to make the cabin filter so inaccessible. I imagine that many garages just don't bother changing the cabin filter, mine was particularly filthy.

    Really useful and clear to follow on the pollen filter. Excellent and suspect it's never been done on my 60 plate 2.0tdci Titanium X. However the oil drain plug is different (points down at the ground so very easy to do) but the oil filter is a nightmare, sitting under the front of the upper part of the engine so a socket only makes a few turns before it jams against the engine. Not seen this layout anywhere. Got it done eventually, but a couple of days after the full oil change. Grrr!!! Any thoughts why it's different? It's a 163bhp.

    Screw things back by hand as much as possible to avoid stripping any threads, thought it was best to change oil when hot, on some car makes be careful not to let oil from filter drip on to clutch, best let used oil drip out of pan a while, new plug and washer an idea, turn engine few times after changing oil before starting is an idea too.

      Hi Clint.
      Thanks for watching. The cap needs replacing either way so I wouldn’t worry about breaking it. They are cheap enough OIL FILTER HOUSING TOP COVER CAP WITH SEAL www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B077NG9PSH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_EQ4548EWPT4JDE97R9PM?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
      I would suggest either buying a belt wrench like this Baby Boa Strap Wrench - Colour May Vary www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00096JDJY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_5RN27QK0HW2ZTTMM3P39. Or create something using a strap, cloth or string.
      You could also try banging a screwdriver through the side of the cap to help open.
      Hope this helps.

    Hi Nigel, just wanted to ask in case you know. I have the exact same car as this with the same sump plug. It needs an allen key just like yours and it stripped out, no doubt from the last service of which i didn't do. Would you have any information on how to determine the specs of the plug itself? I only ask since I went to my local car shop and they only had plugs for the 1.8 with the hex rather than the allen key. Any help would be great, cheers.

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I sympathise as my sump plug is also wearing and will be replaced on the next service. I found this on talk ford talkford.com/community/topic/386513-sump-plug/. It doesn’t matter whether you replace with hex or Allen or Torx provided the thread is right. Phone Fords and see how much they will sell one to you but get the part number out of them and then check Halfords and Amazon.

    Could you do a separate video please on where to use trolley jack and axle stands safely on the Mondeo Mk4

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are plenty of videos already on TH-cam showing how to jack the car. This one is a good example. th-cam.com/video/bhdFrfNcHP0/w-d-xo.html
      I always use axle stands and a trolley jack for safety rather than the car’s supplied jack. To stop the car rolling I put a brick either side of at least one wheel that will stay on the ground. In addition I use the handbrake if jacking the front or put it into first gear if jacking the rear.

      @NigelEaland  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Use some bricks around the front wheel if jacking the rear, or apply the handbrake for jacking the front, either way make sure it won’t roll. I jack up under the sills. You will find indentations in the sills just before the wheel arches, these are the jacking points. Jack up the car and then put in the axle stand. Lower the car gently until it rests on the stand. If the jack is not in the way leave it in position sharing the load for better safety. If you search the Internet you will find pictures showing the various mondeo models’ jacking points.

    hello, mondeo 2008 diesel aisin af40 gearbox does not have any internal problems in normal driving, but sometimes when I slow down, for example, when I slow down while approaching the red light, the car gets a slight knock when it goes to idle. Sometimes it happens once a day, sometimes it happens several times a day. Is there a solution you would recommend without opening the gearbox? What could be the source of the problem. I live in Turkey and the prices are very high due to economic conditions here, can I solve it at low cost? Thank you in advance

      Hard to say. I think I would start by looking at the EGR valve. It recirculates the exhaust gas to clean up the burn. If the car has been doing a lot of local slow driving it can get coked up. I did one once on a mk3 Mondeo. It was easy to get off and I used some spray Carb/EGR cleaner. Do a search on here to find out more.

      I haven’t done one on that car but there is no dip stick. To drain and refill to the correct level there is a drain and separate filler / level plugs. The automatic, 5 speed and 6 speed gearboxes are all different. Buy a manual to see the correct procedure for you car. Thanks for watching.

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume we are talking Diesel engine? Since it’s just been service the obvious thing to check is air in the fuel line. This is caused by the fuel filter housing bleed valve has not been tightened after the filter was changed. To see if this is the case look at the clear plastic fuel pipes under the bonnet for air bubbles. If they are there then slide under the car with a spanner and check the filter housing.
      The alternative is sending it back to the garage and complain.
      Good luck and thanks for watching.

      You need to read the manual. For a manual gearbox the correct oil level is when it is filled enough that it start to trickle out of the filler hole.

    Have you ever changed the gearbox oil?

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Changing the gearbox oil is not normally a service requirement. It only gets done if the gearbox Is overhauled or as precaution if the vehicle is high mileage and had a tough life. To get to the drain plug you need to remove the front left wheel and the plastic wheel arch cover. The manual says there is a drain plug at the bottom on the right side of the five speed manual box or on the left of the six speed. Just above the drain is the filler plug. Fill the box until oil over flows the filler.

    • @NigelEaland
      @NigelEaland  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It has but I have never changed one. Follow the exhaust pipe down from the engine and it will be the first box you find. They are very expensive to replace but there is apparently a method of regenerating (cleaning) them. You need to get the DPF really hot by driving down a motorway in 3rd gear with over 2500 revs. The other thing to look at is whether the EGR valve is coked up. You can take the EGR off and clean it with carburetor cleaner. On the 2007 I think it is right at the front on the left side of the engine.
      This video explains this stuff really well. th-cam.com/video/yzRR8BTVsyw/w-d-xo.html

      Nigel Ealand i dont have any problems with the DPF but I just want to find out if my car has a DPF or not. Is there any other way than to follow the exhaust pipe to figure it out.. I have checked around and some 2007 models have a DPF while others dont. I wanted to know because i have to change the oil of the car and if it does have DPF then i will use DPF safe oil. Are there any indicators or warning signs on the dashboard that will show if i have a DPF.

    Hi Marc. I'm not planning a flush but the description of how to do it is pretty the same as shown in this video of a Mazda.

      get an oil extractor, bought one today for €69 in a local motor factors, sucky sucky through the dipstick hole. The bonus being you will never have a leaky sump plug.

      +Brian Galvin The sucky sucky job is the business only if you're sure you got all of the oil out. Any residue oil may contain gunk and sludge which will build up over successive sucky sucky jobs until you have caused major problems to your engine. Use PTFE tape on the sump plug for 100% reliable seal.

      +Kevin Murphy tried that on a drippy plug once, didn't work. I do agree though that perhaps one in three oil changes should be of the old fashioned sort.

      The plug head is just deep enough to get Mole or vice grips on and will remove easily. Buy a new plug from Ford, not expensive. Or better still, get a generic one off ebay - cheap - with a hex head instead of an allen screw, which was a stupid idea for a sump plug anyway.

    that is one awkward pollen filter, my accord one is way more straightforward, no screws or anything, also the Mrs. golf is a breeze too, just a few thumbscrews.
