    My setbacks came from trying new products. I'm going back to Shea Moisture, my hair thrived with those products.

      goldenj1981 I was thinking of trying shea moisture but I'm gonna wait til I go to USA to buy it cuz that thing cost 18 dollars(if you convert it) where I live😂

      That's my problem as well. Trying new products and not using them often to see if they worked or not. Also, my hair gets weighed down easily with products and I remember when I first went natural I used the original SM raw shea butter shampoo and conditioner and I that had my hair growing fast but I stop using it trying to see what works.

      I just bought some Shea Moisture today. Can't wait to try. Oh I purchased at Bed, Bath & Beyond. Because I purchased $30 or more, I was given $10 gift card for Bed, Bath & Beyond! So that was a nice surprise.

    Girl the crown problem is REAL 😫 the whole back of my head growing out from my crown is always frizzy and won't curl like the rest no matter how hard I try, I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong! I'll definitely try focusing more moisture on that area!!

      Try to do more protein treatments on that part of your hair as well! that part of your hair actually tends to be a higher porosity than the rest of your hair.

    Each of the set backs you have mentioned are areas of aggravation I am currently dealing with, especially the crown and bra strap length hair. I JUST cut off two inches, which irritated me to no end! I've pretty much came to the same conclusion as you, so I appreciate your video. It encourages me to stay faithful with my care, because my goals are attainable.

    The crown area can also become excessively dry because we tend to stand under the showerhead exposing that area of the hair and scalp to the warm/hot water! Mine is the same way

    I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE WHAT YOU HAVE SHARED! You have helped me as you described how you noticed you had to keep getting your ends trimmed to bra strap length after growth. I USED TO get tired of people saying my hair is long AND PRETTY BUT it isn't long to me bcz, I have been at bra strap for most of my life. I had to learn to love what I have and not take it for granted. I just wanted to get at least 5 inches. I also noticed that my ends start to break and split around 2 to 3 months. I too tried to go past 3 months and had to get more cut back to bra strap length. 😫 You just don't know how you have helped me realize that I need to trim every 2 to three months. I can't do what others do by not getting a trim for 6 to 12 months at a time. It doesn't work for me. I was SOOO relieved When you shared how YOU noticed at 3 months you needed a trim. Your timing of posting this video couldn't have come at a GREAT TIME! You have blessed me more than I can express!! WOW! I can see the light now. As soon as I see a knot, I recognize it IS time to trim. It is around 2 1/2 to 3 months... but as a dusting process,... I don't trim a lot at all. Just a tiny tiny teeny amount. GOD BLESS YOU!!!! 🤗

    Omg you are the first person that I've ever heard speak about unruly roots! I thought that I was the only one going through this, and to be very honest I felt really alone in my struggle. Part of the reason for this is because many of these "hair gurus" don't respond to questions or comments when they become big. Coming from the nail world that was very shocking to me especially since you would think there would be more camaraderie here. It's a shame really. Anyway thanks for always conversing with us bc it shows that you care. My roots have always been thick, puffy, and unruly. They're the reason why I've never had the confidence to wear a full wash and go. Now that there are so many natural products out I do feel that I can get the under control in time, but I know that my hair didn't become unhealthy quickly so it's not going to recover quickly. Two questions what did you use for your roots? I'm trying not to use any water insoluble silicones for at least a year. When you ditched the cones did you notice a difference in your hair? Lastly, I just found the best product yet, and that is the Maui moisture's agave mask. This is literally the only product that keeps moisture in my hair, and all of their masks double as leave ins. Can you please do a review on the shea mask, smoothie, oil, and milk? The line is very economical on the target website and even cheaper on www.pharmapacks.com

    • @nvrnakednails1231
      @nvrnakednails1231 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Btw for reference the perimeter of my hair is 3b, rest is 3c, and roots are zc lol. What products/techniques should I use/do?

    • @PowerInYourCurl
      @PowerInYourCurl  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey girl! I am so sorry I am just answering your questions. To get my unruly roots under control I deep conditioned 1-2x a week. Some of the deep conditioners I used had silicones in them so you can pick and choose the ones you prefer to use in your hair. I used the Macadamia Deep Repair Masque (cheaper at TJ Maxx), Theorie Argan Oil Ultimate Reform Hair Mask (cheaper at TJ Maxx), Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask (CVS), Joyce Intense Hydrator K Pal Line (Ulta), and my absolute favorite deep conditioner at the time was Shea Moisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Weightless Hair Masque (this one doesn't have silicones last time I checked). As you can see I wasn't concerned with using silicones back then so if I was having the same issue today the deep conditioners I would use are the Mielle Organics Babassu Mint Oil Deep Conditioner, TGIN Honey Miracle Hair Mask (has water soluble dimethicone), and Obia Naturals Babassu Deep Conditioner. After deep conditioning I would style my hair as normal with a leave-in, cream and an oil. At the time I was using a lot of things but my favorite moisturizing products now are in my "9 Days of Moisture" video. Also, when I ditched the cones I noticed that it was way easier for products to penetrate my hair and my hair was able to actually BE healthy instead of just FEELING healthy. Lastly, I can try the Maui line! It may be a few weeks because my next few wash days are planned out but I would be happy to give them a try 😊

    • @nvrnakednails1231
      @nvrnakednails1231 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much for replying! I know that your life has been a little crazy lately due to the move, and thieving neighbors. I will definitely give these a try. I have the mielle one, and I love it. Even though I'm low porosity like you, I think that I'm going to do the aphogee two step protein treatment on my next wash day. I used to do them before I even knew what porosity was. I so want to try the tgin mask, but I checked the ingredients, and to my knowledge the cones aren't water soluble. Am I missing something? I also have the same result from not using silicones. I always used to think that my hair was just incapable of retaining moisture. Thanks again for all your help!

    Regarding the crown: In my case, my crown is the area with the highest porosity and is most prone to dryness and breakage. It is also the area where my hair is the most dense. Because of that, in the shower I often worried that when I washed my hair that I'd "miss a spot" at my crown and not get it clean enough. Going overboard with the shampoo was probably what led to my crown issues. At one point, I even got a Komaza hair analysis and they were the ones who warned me about shampooing that spot too much.

    OMG,,,my major setback was I dyed my own hair and ended up having to cut 3-6 inches off and completely shave the crown (wow) that was last year..Today the crown is about 6 inches while my other strands are about 8-10 inches..Nothing is even on this head..lol ( because I trimmed everything except my crown throughout the year) I will NEVER dye my hair again it was a lesson learned...and I can laugh about it today...I didnt even tell my husband about it for about 8 months I just wore buns or styles that covered the middle...lol..thanks for sharing because its also educating others

    My crown was always the driest and my hair will mat up easily. That's why I don't do wash & go's ! You and I have a similar grade of hair. I have just learned to be more gentle, and not rush thru it. I dust my own ends when it gets harder to comb out. The main thing I have had issues with is finding the right products. In my boarding school, particularly the hostel I stay in, we have multiple people in the showers at the same time in separate cubicles but girls are always walking around naked. But it wasn't as bad as the time I went on a field trip at school when I was 15 where there were 7 girls in the shower at once to save time, as in in the same cubicle.

    I'm pretty much stuck at bra strap length like you were. For the life of me I can't pass it lol. I actually got a hair cut today, so I went back to right below shoulder length from bra strap. ugh. The stylist said my hair was weak and I'm behind on my trims. I'm not sure I needed so much cut, but I'm trying not too overthink it lol.
    I think I need to up my trims too. The stylist said every 8-10 weeks, so I'll try the every 3 months and see how that goes. I have fine hair so I can look at my hair wrong and it'll thin out lmao. Thanks for the tips!

    Hello i just wanted u to know that I'm a new subscriber and I look forward to following you even tho you've achieved your goal length. Your hair is beautiful btw. But I have relaxed hair. Do u think I can achieve maximum hair growth with a relaxer? And also do you know any good relaxers and products I can use?

    • @PowerInYourCurl
      @PowerInYourCurl  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much! I do not know of any good relaxers but some great brands that have products you may like are Mielle Organics, Kera Care and Design Essentials. I haven't had a relaxer in a while so I am not sure about specific products. Also, your question about reaching your maximum growth is personal to you. For me personally, I feel that for my hair will not achieve its maximum health while being exposed to chemicals and if my hair isn't at its healthiest, it won't grow to its full potential.

    What products do you use for deep conditioning and moisturizing your hair!? Also, I'm an athlete and sweat a lot so I currently keep my hair in a weave to protect it as much as possible until I'm no longer active! Any tips as far as how to have a sew in but to protect your hair so that it can continue to grow in the process!?

    • @PowerInYourCurl
      @PowerInYourCurl  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      My video "9 Days of Moisture | A Week In My Hair" shows all of my favorite products for moisture and my favorite deep conditioner ☺️ Also, I have never had a sew-in but I would think moisturizing your hair underneath the weave is really important so that it does not get dry and brittle and cause breakage during the take-down process. You could use a spray leave in on your hair underneath (Mielle Organics White Peony Leave In OR Oyin Jucies & Berries Leave In) and then seal that moisture in with an oil applied from an applicator bottle. Just be sure to let your real hair fully dry after applying the moisturizing products so that it does not get mildewy underneath the extensions. I hope this helps!

    I was wondering, do you get your hair straightened every time to get it trimmed?

    How do you trim your ends? Do you go get your hair press every 3 months or you trim your hair yourself ?

      I trim my hair in twists every 3 months and just try my best to keep it even. I will have a video on this up on my channel soon.

    Serious dry scalp issues no matter how much oil I put in my hair which is cut really low to the scalp. I don't want long hair just healthy hair. If I scratch my head the blizzard is blinding. Any suggestions? I have tried argon oil, coconut oil and vitamin e oil to no avail. I suck it up and it goes dry less than a half a day. Help!! 🙏🙏😢😢

      Do you cowash your hair with conditioner? or use a lot of product?

      Vicky Kimball Sounds like oil is the problem. I saw a trichologist and they said you shouldn't put oil on your scalp. Product build up can make it itchy with the oil. Make sure you cowash/shampoo your hair on a regular basis, at least once a week. I used to have itchy scalp with oils and since I stopped using them my scalp has been fine.

      make sure you wash & massage your scalp with a lathering shampoo and go in deep with your fingertips (I suggest switching between a sulfate one and a a sulfate free one every other week) + use the sulfur 8 balm on every wash day. sprits/moisturise your scalp/hair daily with water and massage with olive oil afterwards. you could use the sulfur 8 daily too instead of the oil

      Vicky Kimball I have the same issues. I've tried a lot of oils to get rid of my itchy scalp but it didn't work. So now I start using hair grease, BlueMagic and I feel better
