"The Rev" was his shortened version of "The Reverend Tholomew Plague," which itself is probably the most badass stage name that never got used. A7X's style changed drastically after 2009 due largely in part to his having written, co-vocalized, and established beats for their songs. "A Little Piece of Heaven" was virtually all him. The running gag for a while was that he was "extra Rev-y" in studio when he wanted to compose a bunch of songs, act squirrelly, or go ham on the set.

You said you blast the song A Little Piece of Heaven well, you guys must see them preform it Live in LBC too.
M. Shadows (lead singer) played the organ at the start of this video. He also played piano on a number of their songs most significantly “Warmness on the soul” from their first album which is a totally different vibe.
The Rev is a legend & was a beast behind the drum set. Such a talented force to be reckoned with, while he also wrote a lot of their music, sang back up vocals and played piano. He is greatly missed no doubt. This song has always been one of my favorites, just a ton of energy. A7X gives 0 F’s! Great reaction!
R.I.P. The Rev! I have watched the video for “So Far Away” so many times and it still gets me choked up. Can’t help but feel their music. Emotionally and Physically. So excited!!!! Plus, they’re from real close to where I live now. Wish I could’ve seen a live show while The Rev was still with us.

Another band with a singing drummer is Skillet, the female drummer does the secondary vocals. She's pretty awesome. Also, both Godsmack and Nothing More have main vocalists that also play the drums, though they still have a dedicated drummer too. Nothing More's vocalist plays a custom percussion apparatus live on some songs, while Godsmack has a song where both Sully (the vocalist) and Shannon have a drum battle, aptly called Battala de los Tambores.
Would love to see you guys react to more of this show, the LBC concert was absolutely amazing! Matt's vocals were incredible and the Rev doing both drums and vocals at the same time is remarkable.
Oh, as far a bands where the lead singer is the drummer, the best example is Monkees with Mickey Dolenz as main kead vocals, but you also have Don Henley in the Eagles who sang most of their hits, Genesis with Phil Collins, Jellyfish (an alternative band that was pretty big), David Grohl still plays drums on at least some songs every album by the Foo Fighters, Roger Taylor of Queen sang on almost as many tracks as Brian May so could be called a co-lead singer, Terry Bozio of the Jeff Beck Group and Zappa's Mothers Of Invention, and can't forget Ringo Starr of the Beatles.
Brann Dailor of Mastodon is also a lead vocalist as well, and honestly? He should have been in this competition, and he could hold his own against The Rev, having seen both live at least 3 times each

Love this whole album! It's been a bit since I've really listened to Avenged Sevenfold but this made me go back and relisten to them and that was definitely what I needed today. Thank you! A few of my favorites that I suggest you listen to are "Unholy Confessions", "Crossroads", and "Brompton Cocktail" if/when you get a chance. 😊🤘
The running joke about the octopus is because of the odd drumming he does in their song Almost Easy where he does something he called the double-ride-thingy, lol. There's a clip of him playing it in the studio. My god, I miss hearing him sing with Matt.
If you are a big fan of the rev, highly recommend Beast And The Harlot, Afterlife, Second Heartbeat, or Almost Easy. Any of them you can find those live at the lbc. He does vocals in most of these too

They called him mister one take as he did his tracks first take .

Sullivan was a decent drummer but by no way close to the octopus. He got his acclaim from the fans and his band mainly. Drummers that sing while playing, just a couple, Phil Collins anyone? Brann Dailor from Mastodon? Not something that hasn’t been done before. Better bodies of work imo as well but this song is pretty good.
Only other bands I can think of with vocal drummers are Atreyu (their current singer used to do it while drumming) and I think basically everyone in the band Mastodon sings. The Rev has such a great voice and pitch though

I dont know much about underoath and I would like to look into them more, but Brandon Saller is super talented drummer vocalist for Atreyu, now lead vocals and new drummer. Not a fan of new Atreyu unfortunately but back in the day with Alex as lead vocals and Brandon on the drums with some of the cleanest vocals 👌 🙌. Look up super hero from atreyu. Its somewhat new and has Shadows from A7X and both drummer vocalists I just mentioned.
I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this in the comments, but I would honesty say the most famous "singing drummer" of all time IMO IS Don Henley of The Eagles...which is a legendary band u may want to explore. Reactors usually go to, and stop at, Hotel California...but they actually have a MASSIVE collection of hits n great songs.
