You're not wrong on the first "scream" being 'unhealthy', the singer, M.Shadows has reportedly had multiple vocal chord surgerys. But man his voice is one of the more unique sounding out there.
He's only had one surgery, and that was before City of Evil. Everything he does is healthy, his problems stem from touring too much. The man sang shows for 10-12 straight years while recording albums in between. The voice can only handle so much before you need a break. On that first initial scream, you are 100% correct. Before this album, he would scream like that in almost all of their songs but his doctor came back and told him to knock it the fuck off or he would cause permanent damage. It's the main reason why they went from almost pure screamo to more melodic

Seeing how hyped you were listening to them. I really got to live my first time hearing A7X all over again through this video. You have yourself a new subscriber !
One of the most talented and creative bands. RIP the rev
I'm almost sure the song 'steambreather' from Mastodon is also sang by the drummer, and the drums in that song is insane too, that's a whole new level of talent, The Rev was so talented.
Sweetie you were impressed by the drummer because he literally was one of the best metal drummers ever, maybe the best. Exremely talented and a great person. He is missed. RIP Rev
RIP Rev. Man its great to see new people find his music. Wish I could for the first time again
This video makes me sososo happy, ive been a huge fan of a7x since i was a kid and the way you explain the sections of the song is exactly how i explain it to my friends whenever i show them their songs ahaha ❤
The Rev was magical! RIP brother
I got to see them live front row one time In San Diego and it was one of the seamless performances I’ve ever seen.
That’s why he’s called The Rev, greatest drummer ever! An absolutely talented band right here darling
Jimmy "The Reverand Tholemew Plague" Sullivan. The man was an artist. One of, if not, the greatest drummer of my generation.
The amount of reactions I've seen where they don't realize the drummer is singing as well is insane. Nice catch
Also The Rev was just fucking insane, dude was definitely magical. Rest in Paradise Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan.
As a grown man I should not get goosebumps and teary eyed when "The Revs" parts come up.
On that first initial scream, you are 100% correct. Before this album, he would scream like that in almost all of their songs but his doctor came back and told him to knock it the fuck off or he would cause permanent damage. It's the main reason why they went from almost pure screamo to more melodic
Absolutely incredible band! Check them out every chance you get, and pay special attention to the early drumming.
