I've lived and worked in Melbourne for a year and half as an international student the experience I had in this beautiful city is just amazing. This city has a lot to give and accepts with open arms. Love ya Melbs

I spent only 4 days in Melbourne when I visited Australia but definitely that city has some magic... full of chill vibes, which is not that common in big cities. Nice video
Forward to September 2020 and it's now the most unliveable city and state in the world. Terrible government , worst in Australia. No bragging rights these days..
Even after all those crippling lockdowns, protests and turmoil, Melbourne is without a doubt still the best city in Australia. I am sure it will rise again stronger than ever.
It is expensive to eat out in Australia because people are paid a wage they can live on whereas in the US such people live under the poverty line and/or depend on tips
Cracker vid on melbourne you really nailed it....loved the one in Brisbane and the Gold Coast/Byron....and the Aust Open.....please don’t tell me you missed Sydney?
Remember your USD $7 buys AUD $10 in Australia, and if you buy meat or other produce, we use kilograms which equal 2.2 pounds . Depends where you go in Melbourne, but you can get very good prices for cafe food, and we do not tip, and GST tax is already included in the prices of everything you buy.... So if you buy a meal for $10.00, thats all it will cost you...nothing else.
Melbourne is probably the most exciting/funky city in Australia. Regarding street art, you seen the street art in Toronto? If not check out graffiti alley when you are in town.
I live in Melbourne and for 6 months I have been in lockdown and everyone has and the city is so quiet, like no one is going to the city not even 1 person
On my thing to do in Australia and one thing to do in Melbourne would be to see the Australian Grand Prix. Adelaide would be see some Great White sharks and Sydney would be to see the Funnel web spiders being milked.

Melbournian here. We'd love you to come visit. If you're staying for a week or more I'd definitely recommend checking out Belgrave and/or some of the national parks nearby. They're about an hour away by train but it makes for a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the city

It costs a lot to eat in Australia for 4 reasons. 1. We pay a living wage. This is passed on to the cost of the goods. The cost of food is relative to our pay. 2. 95% of all our fresh produce is grown in Australia, but all over the country. Our country is the size of the US, but with only 25 million people. So transport costs are factored in. And less goods because of less population means higher prices. 3. Water. Weather. Fires. Drought. We don't have enough water. We are the driest continent on Earth, but growing food that is water thirsty. And we have regular droughts. We also get massive bush fires and cyclones all of which affect what grows or what dies. For example a few years ago a cyclone destroyed much of the banana crops. Bananas are usually cheap here, but they went as high as $14 per hand. If you saw someone eating a banana you teased them for being rich. 4. Food is seasonal here, so what is in season is cheap. What is not in season is expensive. So Australians mainly eat seasonally. Not many western countries eat like that any more. We do.
I'm Aussie and live in Sydney. I have lived in Melbourne. Both cities have their good and bad points. What's funny about Melbourne is how they think they are so superior, because they were never a penal colony. They even thought they should have been Australia's Capital. The fact is, the whole place was originally "New South Wales" (James Cook named it in 1770), and Sydney was founded in 1788 by the first Governor of New South Wales (including what is now "Victoria"), Admiral Arthur Phillip. Melbourne developed from an outpost of New South Wales at the head of Port Phillip Bay. The State of Victoria was established from parts of Southern New South Wales as late as 1851 by an Act of British Parliament. In reality, Australia was originally inhabited by at least 240 different indigenous culture and language groups, called "Aboriginal" by the British colonials. The "States" we have today are mere leftovers of British colonial history. So, yeh, Melbourne's a "nice" city (so described by Dame Edna), with straight roads and a cute little river, but if you want to experience something extraordinary, come to Sydney with its Harbour, Opera House, and edgy Convict tradition.
We travelled around the world, including Melbourne.
