    5:38 Holy crap it was that simple, I always wondered how most people are always able to step around moves from so far away. Just wait 'till the opponent's close or is about to do their move and then step. Friggen duh. Shows that you can always learn no matter what skill level you're at

    Love this so much, wish someone explained things like this when I tried to learn Tag 2. When you said only sidestep moves -3 to +3 that was a total eyeopener, never heard that said before it was always very vague, "just sidestep bro." Also not being able to sidestep certain moves like Law db3, I always suspected that but because I didn't see the homing I thought I was just messing up. Appreciate things like this as someone who's struggled to learn Tekken for years due to lack of information online about the game from a technical standpoint.

    I like how he says the benefit of sidestepping is firstly that it makes the opponent aware that you are using different options, and secondly that it allows you to punish options that they take. I feel like for most people, the order of benefits is reversed.

    • @BenTan89
      @BenTan89 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Depends who you are playing.
      Against a beginner/newbie - "Why are my attacks always missing?! Why the fuck can't I hit him? Fuck it, let's just mash buttons faster so I can hit him"
      Against an intermediate - "So he can sidestep, lucky prick."
      Against a veteran - "Aight he knows how to sidestep, time to mix up the timing of my attacks and throw out different homing attacks here and there".
      What I'm saying is, the benefits to sidestepping is available at all levels. The most people you are referring to are stuck between the newbie and intermediate stage.

    • @jamessummers5936

      @@BenTan89 There are a bunch of players who have absolutely zero defense, so their option is to just rush down and be aggressive af. I'm good, but not that good, so I usually have to match their energy and end up in a sloppy brawl lol. I say that to say yeah there are some players who you can't even try to employ some more advanced strats on because there's no method to their madness.

    • @BenTan89
      @BenTan89 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@jamessummers5936 There is, it's called spacing and looking for openings. You don't have to kill them, you let them do it themselves.
      You mention aggressiveness as their defense, sure of course - that's because it works against you and it's a legit strategy. Players who are mindlessly aggressive usually throw out moves that gives a lot of + frames, random launchers or mix in a frame trap or so for a CH. However if you realize that most of these moves are usually highs (which you can duck under) or slow mids which you SS, then that's all you need to do. There are lows which gives + frames too, but that's where you employ fuzzy guarding/parrying. If you take 1 round to realize they're flowcharting, that should be enough info for you to realize how to defend against mindless aggression. The fact that you said that you have to match their aggression by also being mindlessly aggressive says that you don't actually understand the game enough.

    Thing is, side step should also work on that initial jab to make it whiff. The whole point of sidestepping is to get out of the X axis, so the incoming attack whiffs. Virtua Fighter and Sould Calibur do it right, but in Tekken, X axis attacks always track, unless it has huge start up like the ones shown here, which makes the mechanic more situational than anything.

      A key point when sidestepping is never randomly do it. Always have the options your trying to deal with in mind, if the options your thinking of dont come out you adjust.. Always sidestep with purpose or you'll just get bad habits. The only other reason to step is aligning or dis-aligning the wall for you or your opponent but it has to be done carefully.

    • @MuzzYADam
      @MuzzYADam 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you mean DSS f+4 which is the kick that comes out of his stance then you should duck it instead of stepping but if it's his wr3 then yes sidewalk it since its super linear. but drag's wr2 even though it was nerfed the more distance between you the more it will track.

    • @ramireini
      @ramireini 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, it depends on timing and range, after the attack is made he's kind of locked on to his current trajectory which is when you step and avoid the attack. If you step too early then he will lock on to you after you've stepped which means it will connect with you.

  • @jamessummers5936
    @jamessummers5936 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wait, you can step EWGF? I'm assuming to your right? I'm always stepping to the left, against Kaz, because I know that can completely avoid the Hell Sweep from Kaz.

    • @ramireini
      @ramireini 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kazuyas weak side is to his right, your left, so usually you sidestep left (Same for Heihachi and Devil Jin). Electrics were made faster so it's harder now, but still doable.

    • @Sdesser
      @Sdesser 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you hold the button or tap twice before your character is able to move (recovering from block stun, hit stun, move) the game can sometimes read that as holding the button. The timing is a bit different depending on the connection between you and the opponent, try setting different connections in practice mode and stepping after blocking to get a feel for it.

    Great video JDCR another thing I learned that I must share with you all. You must learn every character sidestep weaknesses for example when facing Jin Kuzama or any mishima if you step to your right it’s their weakness which sometimes can easily be punished. So if you want to get technical in understanding the game it’s very important to study frames and technique of each character. Somehow I realize in my online battles and training mode mids frame rate is faster than low attacks also why side stepping is important to even set up your opponent for tech trapping as well avoid the tracking attacks.

    00:25 Actually, that guy had that question because Tekken 7 is the only Tekken where sidesteps sucks, or in other words: is not Tekken. So that guy doesn't even know the utility of the sidesteps because he didn't have an oportunity to use it properly.
    An example: 05:40 that's not a sidestep, it's a sidewalk, people tends to confuse them since Tekken 7 release. If you do a sidestep you will get hurt because sidesteps are pretty bad in this game, and microsidesteps doesn't exist anymore.
