They place the ball on the table a shown at the start of each frame. If you make a 147, you can then pot the golden ball for an extra 20 points. The moment a 147 is no longer possible, the golden ball is removed.

There’s no place for a golden ball in snooker it’s bull…. We don’t need 167 breaks 147 is the max end of if they introduce that in to the normal game play as a standard I will stop watching and playing that will be it! They are trying to change the game and make their own rules stuff that!

147 has never been the maximum possible since the game started. The max possible is a 155, the only person I can remember who came close to it was Kirk Stevens many years ago who was left with 2 reds on the table and missed.
