It's the smaller goth bands that have the attitude...not all goth bands but a handful I've met over the years in the early 90's many of them have been stuck up pricks and they're just club level bands. lol The Cruxshadows are cocks...very good musicians and excellent showmanship but assholes and bitches. Despite the importance of bands like Metallica, Exodus, Testament, Megadeth, Anthrax, OverKill, etc., for me, the group that definitively shaped the sound of what we know today as Thrash Metal was Slayer with Reign in Blood. I consider them the definitive and supreme band of the Thrash movement, influencing many people since then. Another interesting point is that Slayer became a big Metal band without resorting to melodic and commercially appealing songs.

I got into Slayer when I was 13 years old - I turn 50 next birthday. They still remain today as one of my favorite bands - this is one of my favorite songs off my favorite Slayer album. Reign in Blood and War Ensemble are up there as well. I first saw them live at the age of 19 on their first tour to Australia in support of the "Divine Interviention" album and last saw them in my 40's on their final tour. Have been lucky enough to see them 5 times in my home country (4 concerts and 1 festival) and twice in Europe. Always intense and I always felt "cleansed" after a Slayer show. Was privielged to have seen them when Jeff was still alive (RIP) and also all 3 of their drummers - Dave Lombardo, Paul Bostaph and Jon Dette. There is no such thing as a former Slayer fan.. once a Slayer fan, always a Slayer fan. Thanks for the reaction vid and glad you enjoyed it!

This particular album is a masterpiece of composition and rhythm dynamics. Each song transitions seamlessly into the next one (so it's good to use a music player that doesn't add gaps between them), and the grand finale is legendary especially if you've allowed yourself to really get into the music. The album contains 10 songs but is only about 30 minutes in length, so if you're at all interested it's definitely worth experiencing!

This era un slayer's history show all four members at their absolute best both technically and physicality in their playing , they were like the slayer that recorded show no mercy and he'll awaits , still a group of friends with the same goal , money started to change things as far back as the recording of the reign in blood album , managers got in Kerry's ear and convinced him that Dave lombardos contribution on the drums wasn't as valuable to the band as the contributions of Jeff and himself , tom didbt write lyrics back then so he wasn't paid the same as Jeff and Kerry , the management wanted to pay Dave half of what Kerry and Jeff were getting ( bare in mind Dave arranged many of the songs and it was his drumming that caught the attention of the metal world )
I truly believe that Dave's drumming was the thing that got them signed , if they had a less talented drummer I don't see how slayer would have gained the same popularity amongst the metal heads of the time , the way Dave puts his beats down to slayer riffs is so different than the way most drummers would approach it , he's actually left handed and footed but plays a right handed set up on his drums , that alone makes his beats and drum fills sound somehow much different to the other drummers that were coming up at the same time , there's just something special about his playing style , I'm not saying the other thrash drummers aren't as good , I'm simply saying that Dave lombardo has that something special thing that we don't see often , he is self taught and that will have a massive impact on his approach as opposed to the drummers who were taught to read drum tablature as they learned to play along .

A reference to Auschwitz tells you immediately that Slayer are going to sprinkle their lyrical gold dust on one of the horrors of modern history. Link that to Dr Josef Mengele, the angel of death at Auschwitz, and you have a band with a mission to attack and destroy. Slayer have always had the ability to paint the world with great metal music. Okay, it may not be your first dance choice at your wedding, but it could open up any metal festival. What a song…a song with a built in sonic boom. Considered one of the godfathers of thrash, and with good reason. My favorite albums are Seasons In The Abyss, for the title track & "Dead Skin Mask", both slower than their usual material; and South of Heaven, the title track which is slower too, and "Silent Scream" which is perhaps their fastest but is simply amazing both musically & lyrically (it ascends from mere thrash into precision speedmetal, in my opinion) and is also controversial. Solid rage therapy, with a little ethereal/creepy thrown in for good measure.

Here in the Netherlands we have a radio show called the Top 2000. It's a list of 2000 songs past to present times where the people from the Netherlands can vote for, and it will be played from the 25th of Decemeber till the 31st of Decemeber. People of all ages vote for this list. And for the last few years This song is in that list, and it's there to stay. Maybe this can tell you how good this song is. I guess i don't need to tell everyone how controversal this song is. Because after the scream the 1st words you hear is Auschwitz the meaning of pain. Many people who don't know about this song hear that and made up their minds. Funny story, my dad bought Reign in blood for me. And he said well put the record on. I didn't want to, because i knew that Angel of Death would be played. So i had to warn him, NOT to have his opinion based on the first words. So he knew and think about what he was hearing. My dad doesn't like any style of music. So i didn't have to tell him about the lyrics, because he didn't make it to the scream. This music was way to heavy for him. LoL

That was so cool man. Look at it like this. I'm around your age I think. I have no children. But I would be so happy to have such a funny son. And he rocks out to this. One of my favourite songs/videos since it came out. And like you said. Still looks new. It always seemed futuristic to me. Partly maybe because it's all done and filmed in Finland? I found that out a few years ago

I heard a couple of Slayer songs in passing when I was a teen but never got into them.... Until I watched this specific DVD where this video comes from, idk something about their playing and energy when playing live is something I have yet to see from any other band. I can not tell you how much fun Slayer is to see live, sadly the lead singer Tom is officially retired and they most likely don't be doing shows anymore =(

My very first concert was with Slayer as the headliner, Lamb of God opened for them too which was an epic combo, and Mastodon was before Lamb of God with their Leviathan album which is still an epic album. It was the greatest concert I've ever been to, that was 17 years ago and I feel like I've been chasing that concert ever since. Slayer opened with 2 giant upside down crosses coming out of the ceiling made of bolted together speaker cabs while Kerry King doing the opening rift to South of Heaven, to I've never been to anything that compares to that concert, 90% of the floor was a mosh pit their whole set.

Last time I saw Slayer live was in Charlotte.
They were soooooooo loud for the venue.
    Also...
Having attended a few Slayer concerts, I would not recommend venturing into the pit.
