COHO CANDY- 2 Days Fishing The Cowlitz River. Blue Creek to Barrier Dam in Search of Hens & Eggs.

- I spent two days fishing the Cowlitz River from Blue Creek to Barrier Dam. Floating eggs, bobber dogging, twitching jigs. It wasn't until I hit the Island at the Barrier Dam that I found some willing biters.
Replenished my egg supply and I am stoked for another adventure. Stay Tuned.

Good job nice fish awesome video stay fishy Redmond OREGON 👍
Thanks and thanks for watching. Appreciate it.
I have fished there and seen fish swimming almost at my feet with no upper snout. Caught lots of fish there, and yeah, you don't need to cast to the other bank.
yup
Great video Gene!!
Thank you.
I didn't know this section of the river is open. Thought it was closed
They open it when their Chinook eggs count is met. You never know when that is either.
Great job Gene!!!
Thanks!!
Another great video Gene. What river flow/level do you prefer this time of year? I haven't fished the Blue Creek to Barrier Dam area since the early 2000s. Thanks.
It all depends on the amount of fishnthat return. if there are less fish like this year I like it below 5000cfs so I can fish the Island where they're more concentrated. When the returns are high, I prefer water above 6 or even 8000cfs for a few spots lower down river where there are less people and more privacy.
@@Northwestfishingfanatics Thank you.
I fished barrier few weeks ago few days and couldn’t hook a single fish man, just so soow
It has been terrible. I fished a couple weeks ago for three straight days without one fish.
Loved the video. What kind of reel where you using ?
I think that one is the Diawa Regal 3000.
Was this video recent? Is the dam a good spot to fish off the bank? Thinking about trying that river out soon.
Last week. All my video are posted a week after the trip. Takes a while to edit them. They have raised the water over the past few days but bank fishing is very good right at the deadline. You'll see all the other anglers. Good luck and thanks for watching.
Thank you and good luck out there.
Since when was it open below the dam? I have been itching to go to that place. Is it open?
@@davidsarafinchan4291 it is open. Good luck.
Google maps (distance measurement) and the fish Washington app seem to think this area is closed to fishing. Is the posted marker upstream of the island?
They (WDFW) open this area randomly. It all depends on Chinook egg collection. There are two markers. One just below the dam and one 400ft down river.
I really like your boat. What kind is it?
It's a Smokercraft Sportsman 1660. 16ft 7in length, 60" floor, 86" beam.
Is it legal to keep salmon alive on a stringer?
I'm not aware of a rule prohibiting it. Are you?
I can't recall exactly where in the rule book it is but I am 99% sure it is. If I were to guess why, probably because there is a risk the fish will escape and suffer a higher mortality rate afterwards. @@Northwestfishingfanatics
@@kashfiqbal you should find it and be 100% sure.
Didn't you mean,
Hatchery= Clipped,
not Unclipped 😂
Probably. 😆

I want to say that I really enjoy your videos, especially the one's right out your backyard! The amount of river you get to travel is amazing! I live just above the Sandy R. here in Oregon and can't run this river upstream very far do to legal restrictions, although still do very well!
Just watched the plunking/ Tannerite shooting with your grandson! Love how you built your shooting range,
very safe!
Thanks again and keep up the good work!!
@@joepodunk284 thanks. Appreciate it.
