Do yall ever hunt those oryx? That was really special for me to see. Are there large enough populations not to have just a mess of inbreeding? Are they all free range out there but still managed? I know they are considered extinct in a bunch of their historic range in Africa.
Looks like a wonderful spot! I need to look for some land in that area.

I am going to in 2005 apply for the New Mexico tag draw for free range Oryx.
I am trying to find another person to apply double on the tag draw application because New Mexica said 2-person application have a higher draw rate than single person tag draw.
I am an Alaska professional hunting guide so I have killed every critter that can be hunted except the Musk Ox so when I found the New Mexico Oryx hunts I have to get on this to try it

Sounds like you live the dream! You think it’s possible to find a location to go chase them? What kind of dollars and cents are we talking to make something like that happen. Then stupid question but what do you think the likelyhood of even laying eyes on the animals would be? If you need a second man I may have to throw my hat in. I’m in KY and I am always willing to travel.

@@collegeguy14 This Oryx hunt in New Mexico I only found out about it by it showed up as a video option on TH-cam.
I watched the video in amazement that in New Mexico are free range Oryx.
What I gather from watching so many hunters' videos are the free-range Oryx are in the thousands.
But in all of the video's hunters say you have to cover allot of ground and be actively search with optics and the animals are hellish to get close to with they have extreme eye site and sense.
I understand also by video the hunters say even roads can turn to crap if in the rainy season and a vehicle with a winch is a must have - not a problem for me with 2 of 3 trucks I own have winches.
Reading from guided that offer Oryx Hunts is better expect LONG RANGE SHOTS !
And using large magnums to cover over long open desert.
As a professional hunting guided since 1978 and hunted all over the US I have applied for such hard to get or odd tags and when getting a tag, I always got the animal the tag was for.
I get the feeling these Oryx are like hunting Antilope and they are spooky critters.
If drawing a tag, the cost is $1630 for the Oryx tag and seasons run 9 months and in that time some hunts are 1 month long.
If you wish to chat with me about coming along, I can be messaged from my Instagram account @ dwayneb1959.
TH-cam is extreme danger to post any kind of personal info.
Just in case I get a draw tag I have started now prepping my 1991 4x4 Chevrolet Silverado 1/2 ton with a new motor in the machine shop that will be a 385 Chevrolet stroker and I have installed a carry rack over the truck canopy and continuing other projects related to travel to New Mexico if I get the Oryx Gemsbuck tag .
Also, if you have ever thought of an Alaskan Yukon Moose hunt, I do a Moose camp each for unguided hunts.

That would be amazing. I wouldn’t have but a week to apply to something like that but seems like a once in a lifetime opportunity. To apply is free I assume until you know you have been drawn? I agree I’m sure it’s dangerous to put personal info out on TH-cam. I’ll ask my wife to look you up and chat more!

This is a safety advice learned the hard way !
Never site on the side of an autoloading rifle ejection port.
The first of stupid me I stood to the side of a person going to shoot a Mini 14 and when fired I got hit right in the left eye causing a blood red burse in my eye and the pain was horrendous.
Many years latter yep dumb me did it again and I took a 9 mm spent brass from an AR 15 on the lip below the noise cutting me open and bleeding like a blood vain was cut, if that had been my eye it would have wrecked my eye.
On another day of me shooting the AR 10 in 308 I fired, and the spent brass hit my truck door then came back right at me whacking me in the head by my ear with force the next day I have a small Bruse.
No longer do I set up the shooting table next to the truck with ejection port facing the side of the truck after that goof up.
So please look over things before you do something shooting autoloaders.

@@Forrealhunters Since I posted this warning where not to sit when someone shoots an auto leader, I have had an AR 10 I hunt with in 375-300 WSM spit a cartridge out and it stuck the case neck first into the trees bark 10 feet away!
