Hey folks, it’s great to see that lots of you are excited about the new haptic buzz feature! The haptic buzz safety alert feature is designed to work in conjunction with our already existing haptic alert called pushback to give riders additional information that they are approaching the limits of the board. Importantly, because this recall is actioned through a firmware update, we are also able to make it available with little hassle to owners for the vast majority of boards still in use today. Rider safety is our top priority and is critical to the long-term success of the sport, which is why we have always and will continue innovating and delivering new performance and safety features for our products. We’ve seen quite a few questions in the comments that we wanted to hit below and figured we’d share some additional insights here. As we said in response to the CPSC’s statement last year, Onewheels do not have faulty components and they do not suddenly shut-off due to any fault with the product. We’ve always taken the position that Onewheels are as safe as any other board sport. Nevertheless, over the last year, we have continued to work with the CPSC on ways to enhance safety and the overall experience for Onewheel riders. Like any new innovation, the haptic buzz safety feature took a huge amount of work to create and it wasn’t yet developed when the CPSC issued its statement last year. We are proud to have innovated an exciting new safety feature that is the core of last week’s recall and has allowed us to turn the page on this chapter.

We should be able to turn haptic buzz off period. When I first got my GT the safety beep actually startled me into almost wiping out as it distracted my attention from where I was going to what-the-hell-is-happening, so I shut it off and haven't turned it on since and haven't had a problem and I've got well over 3300 miles on my board now. Would it possible to add a slider to adjust the intensity of the haptic feedback? Good idea but It seems to feel a little overbearing for experienced riders.
thats why they call it the Haptic-buzzkiller. also why im just going to miss out on custom shaping. they should make it toggleable if you hit 1000 miles. i think that is fair.
Guess this might help new riders , push back was never enough of a warning. I’m hesitant about downloading the firmware and messing up my board. Probably will download in a few months and see if issues arise from the firmware update
I just downloaded the update to my GT not knowing about this. I got 2500 miles on my board and regularly ride around 20 mph on the streets without issue before update, now a constant buzzing comes from my board and forces me to ride slower than I was able to before. Also the buzz is annoying, for the rider and people around. This would be an ok feature if I was able to turn it off. PLEASE LET ME TURN THIS OFF LIKE WE COULD THE SAFTEY BEEP! Haven't even tried custom shaping with this let down.
Please say you'll be able to turn the buzz off, even when your not in ORL. It's always nice with a new safety feature, but for experinced riders it isn't really needed.

@@Onewheel Will only ORL racers be able to toggle off haptic buzz after the reach a mileage minimum? Or will non-ORL racer also have this option after a mileage limit?
@@Onewheel this is kind of a scummy move to be honest even if the hapic buzz is a net positive. I ride trails (China Peak, Lakeshore CA) constantly and have near 5000 miles between two boards but I'm never going to become an official certified racer. I know the limits of my board like the back of my hand and don't really need nor want a buzzer telling me I'm near the limits.
@@Onewheelwhen you guys say one thing in the video and another in the comments… transparency on the mileage minimum is imperative. A lot of us don’t want a buzzer or vibrations. I know and respect my board after thousands of miles ridden. And I’m likely never gonna be ORL certified. Until you clarify, I (and I suspect many others) won’t be updating.
this is genuinely a great update and i don’t think it makes sense to shut it off except if you’re racing so i like that idea but i am wondering, does this work one the first onewheel, onewheel+, onewheel+xr, pint, and pintx, aka not just the gt?
onewheel plus purchaser here. Also have two pints and a GT. How about the recall credit is elegible to be used for accessories? Or even merchandise? Lord knows yall could use all of the free PR possible right now.
Looks like you can only disable haptic buzz if you are a onewheel racing league member. 2:36 makes it seem like anyone can do it as long as you are over a certain mile minimum. Super not happy with how you guys worded this. Why even include it in the video? There aren't that many onewheel racers anyways...

I have an original Onewheel and I have fallen twice and bloodied my knee both times by pushing thru the pushback. Unfortunately, this update does not apply to the earliest versions of the Onewheel. They are offering a $100 credit toward the purchase of a new one. I feel this is woefully inadequate. If it weren’t for early adopters like myself, all of you with the later models wouldn’t be riding a Onewheel at all. Very disappointed but will keep riding my unsafe but very fun Onewheel original!
I'm still waiting on a suggestion I keep bringing up of a "bike lock" option in the app - where you might be able to through the app lock your OneWheel so even if someone tries to take your OneWheel, after turning it on they still won't be able to ride off with it till you turn off your lock with your app. I put my board down to go to the toilet time to time and while someone can't get far running off with a 13kg item, they can if they just turn it on. A lock would bring alot of peace of mind
Big thank you to you guys for making these new safety features optional for those of us who have been riding for years and have thousands of miles of experience on roads and trails under our belt. Knowing your board and its limits takes time and maybe a spill or two, but as these boards continue to advance in speed and power, so too should the safety features. Features like these make me even more comfortable putting new riders on my board's.
@@57zThat's directly contradicting what they said in the video. They said everybody will have the ability to turn it off once they're board has a certain amount of mileage clocked on it.

This is the most intriguing onewheel update to come from FM in a long time. Not everyone will want the haptic buzz but this safety nerd can’t wait to try it out!
Is this speed based or is this Watt based? How does this impact batteries that have lost capacity or those that can no longer produce the proper Amp X Volt or Wattage? How does this impact those that have already done modifications to their boards, including by not limited to battery mods? Why are you only offering a $100 coupon to original OW owners if you're now saying those boards should not be ridden any longer? How does $100 cover the product and the expectations of the customer when originally purchasing?
Just recovered from a broken arm on the board. I’m genuinely exited for this feature because I would love to feel confident that the board will communicate with me to slow down and let me know when low battery, etc. perfect timing with winter too because people are going to have to take a long break anyway. Keep up the great work with the boards!
Same for me I broke my collarbone 3 months ago, i believe my GT got overheated from the long ride I did and I was at 25% from 90% charge going at around 14-18 mph and randomly turn off with no warning at all😢
Just a question, so I'll get my first haptic buzz at 18 mph on my pint x but will it stay buzzing from 19mph and up or will the buzzing start closer to the limit of the board?
Experienced rider here with 2k miles on an XR - I want to be able to turn off beep and haptic buzz on the GT I was just forced to update. PLEASE LET US TURN OFF HAPTIC BUZZ - we deserve a choice. Thank you.
now they know dude! you have to send it back to them and pay a manditory $600 for a stock battery. your board will self destruct in 24 hours if you dont have a tracking number to prove youve mailed it back to FM.
if you send a modified board back for any reason they'll update it to new firmware (for "safety"), that will turn your board into a brick. Has always been the case. They've purposefully killed all of the local repair shops so the future decision, when the board dies, will be bite the bullet and get another FM OneWheel, or unfortunately (for America), a knockoff.
PintX, and if I'm riding fast, on choppy roads or turning, the push back is what makes me fall. Would love to hear that Haptic Buzz occurs maybe 2mph earlier than push back so I know to slow down... without getting to the sometimes abrupt push back.
wait, so haptic buzz happens at the exact same time as pushback? wtf?? so now on top of aggressive pint pushback, i'm going to have pulsing and beeping to add to the anxiety? great.
My Onewheel+ is now recommended to no longer be used and as part of your "Recall" you've given me a discount code for a mere $100 off another purchase, a nice way of saying, "Save 10% off our lowest priced OneWheel!" Glad to have even more of a reason to do away with my board aside from the degraded battery, definitely won't be returning as a customer to a company who overprices their products.
I have a Quart battery in my onewheel will this update end out bricking the board just like the newer versions of the pint arent battery upgradable? I've done a stupid amount of km's riding this thing and understand the limits very well but more safety is always good but I fear my board would no longer work
Government: You guys need to recall. There are severe oversights with-- Onewheel: Introducing a warning buzz! Internet: Wow, you guys are amazing! ... I'm just going to hold out hope that people are less gullible to a companies PR stunts than what it looks like, and that they're just staff/generated comments
You missed a line after the first.... Gov: you need recall Onewheel: No issue, Gov is Alarmist!! [one year later] Onewheel: Recall, and warning buzz Onewheel users: I can't wait to turn off the buzz (likely making you liable for *all* injuries regardless)
The buzz should have been on the doors since day one. Will the board buzz before it malfunctions and shuts off? Or will it just eject the rider like it has in the past?
FYI: We just received the haptic buzz firmware update for the XR Series boards the other day. From a user community we're NOT noticing the haptic buzz pushback at high speeds. And the alert is barely audible at high speeds as well, on this model boards. The haptic buzz on the XR series boards only appear noticeable at low speeds (high torque) situations. Users should be warned that they should NOT rely on haptic buzz at high speeds as it's not noticeable.
I definitely welcome this new feature. I'm never sure if what I'm getting is actual Pushback or not, because it feels like I'm going too slow to possibly be getting it, so a rumble and beeping will be very helpful for me to know if it's actual Pushback or not.
I’ve a XR with over 1000 miles and a brand new GT, do I’ve to break 1000 miles for each boards to take off the haptic buzz? Or a 1000 miles doesn’t matter the board?
Hey, just wanted some input because I just updated it and not only is the safety beep option no longer there, but it’s not buzzing and occasionally says that the update corrupted and decides to not connect sometimes is there a fix? Still a pretty cool update though.
Thanks for doing this. Only fall I ever had was a collapse on low battery but it made me afraid I would miss the pushback at high speed so I slowed way down. I think better communication from my board is … Better!
Your firmware update will update your board. You send the firmware update to your board from the app. Open up the app, sync to your board and follow the steps to update your firmware and you should be good! - Adam
Amazing to be able to achieve that without any hardware modification !!! Great job guys ! I'm literally traumatized since my first nosedive and keep riding it close to 15mph ! I'll enjoy it better for sure
Me too! I haven’t ridden it faster than 11mph after seeing people with broken collarbones. Haptic feedback will definitely make me more confident to ride faster.
One of the things that frustrated (and still does) me about riding was the lack of, as you described, communication with the board. The best setup until now was having the speedo on my watch. Unfortunately this still required me to look down at my wrist to double check where I was at. Having an audible alarm is almost perfect and I'm keen to see if it allows me to ride the board confidently again.
I hate it! I turned off the beep because it was annoying, and I’m an experienced rider so I know my board. This buzz is going to make me want to not ride my GT and eventually vesc it. 👎🏼 Future Motion
I lent my board to a homie, how does the board get updated? Is it automatic if you connect to the app? Essentially can I use the App and not update the board?
firmware updates are a real "buzz" kill haha. can anyone tell me if the new update will impede my ability to install a CBXR aftermarket battery? I was totally planning on it, now I gotta figure out how to dodge this update forever

Is it only ORL members that will be able to deactivate this feature or can anyone do this after a certain amount of miles? sounds good as long as this is able to be deactivated when needed.
ORL only
It was important to us to maintain choice for experienced riders. We spent quite a bit of time fighting for that flexibility. Certified ORL racers with over 1,000 miles will be able to deactivate Haptic Buzz. We’ll have more info on that to come shortly.
You're important to onewheel just not that important
What mileage is needed before you can turn it off?
You can’t they lied
1k AND ORL AND if you are at a RACE
Thanks to thjs update my onewheel gt is bricked
Love the new features but will riders in the future be able to turn off the buzz without being an ORL racer? Couldn’t you just up the mileage requirement for non ORL riders? Just a thought.
✅️
XR user here. I can no longer see my battery percentage, change shaping, or adjust my lights due to a large update window in app. I don’t want to update the app, I want to continue to use the product as it was when I purchased it.
How does the public register to be a Onewheel Racing League member? How many boards can a member own?
Would it possible to add a slider to adjust the intensity of the haptic feedback? Good idea but It seems to feel a little overbearing for experienced riders.
thats why they call it the Haptic-buzzkiller. also why im just going to miss out on custom shaping. they should make it toggleable if you hit 1000 miles. i think that is fair.
Guess this might help new riders , push back was never enough of a warning. I’m hesitant about downloading the firmware and messing up my board. Probably will download in a few months and see if issues arise from the firmware update
@onewheel What's the mileage at which you have the option to turn it off?
Saw another comment saying you also have to be a “league member” whatever that is.
Alright, i now know not to update the board's firmware.
Does the torque based haptic buzz activate on lower power delivery from the battery, say due to cold temps or just lower battery percentages?
I predict they're gonna stay mostly vague about this
@@jaefrmbk2kthey commented you need to be in ORL and have 1,000 miles to turn it off. No thanks.
@@elevatedperceptionsame. our Community will Always triumph over autocratic constraints & opaque communication. the future of wheelboarding is so bright & our options are ever expanding . good luck Boosted Board Motion. the way y'all movin, y'all are really gonna need it 😄🤙🏾
They lied ... never happened ... @@elevatedperception
for 2 weeks, my board has stopped at 78% it's very dangerous! is there a link with this update? I have a oneweel xr, Thanks a lot
Sounds like your cell's voltages are unbalanced, try leaving it plugged in all night?
Because this safety feature is more like an after production addon to appease the recall, is there any chance that there could be some negative impact to the motor or other parts of the board over the long term?
I got the notification from future motion about the update for the haptic feedback update and im hesitant to go throufh with it.
To be honest, PushBack has been enough for me...
What’s the mileage limit to disable to feature?
It was important to us to maintain choice for experienced riders which we fought for. You'll need to be certified as a ORL racer but more on the milage minimum to come.
@@Onewheelgot it, so don't update unless you're in the ORL
@@Onewheelwhen you guys say one thing in the video and another in the comments… transparency on the mileage minimum is imperative. A lot of us don’t want a buzzer or vibrations. I know and respect my board after thousands of miles ridden. And I’m likely never gonna be ORL certified. Until you clarify, I (and I suspect many others) won’t be updating.
So only racers can turn off the buzz or anyone can after a certain mileage?
this is genuinely a great update and i don’t think it makes sense to shut it off except if you’re racing so i like that idea but i am wondering, does this work one the first onewheel, onewheel+, onewheel+xr, pint, and pintx, aka not just the gt?
onewheel plus purchaser here. Also have two pints and a GT. How about the recall credit is elegible to be used for accessories? Or even merchandise? Lord knows yall could use all of the free PR possible right now.
Really glad to see this - I've never been able to notice the pushback feel, and one full speed superman was enough for this lifetime
I had superman at day 1 of owning. Lesson learned. Also, 100% HELMET. EVERY. SINGLE. RIDE. end of.
Same.
I'm EUC now though so not as important anymore
How many miles on the odometer are we talkin when it comes to being able to deactivate the feature?
Looks like you can only disable haptic buzz if you are a onewheel racing league member. 2:36 makes it seem like anyone can do it as long as you are over a certain mile minimum. Super not happy with how you guys worded this. Why even include it in the video? There aren't that many onewheel racers anyways...
It was important to us to maintain choice for experienced riders. We spent quite a bit of time fighting for that flexibility. Certified ORL racers with over 1,000 miles will be able to deactivate Haptic Buzz. We’ll have more info on that to come shortly.
the + and XR had the infamous "Headlight controller rattle". Now FM is at it again making sure your board has a rattle. Good job!
What happens to my onewheel Plus that doesn't have the buzz feature?
The information given @ 2:53 is spot on! Right on Guys!
Please add Beeep sound into the app - when the app is connected we will hear it also in the phone and in headphones if we are listening music
Looking forward to being a registered ORL rider. I hope its FREE and not geo mapped to ORL races.
Thanks! The goal is always improvement. Excited to add more rider board feedback
It’s not optional for almost every rider. Only certified ORL members will have ability to turn it off.
@@57zThat's directly contradicting what they said in the video. They said everybody will have the ability to turn it off once they're board has a certain amount of mileage clocked on it.
@@counterstrike2A Watch the video again about 2:38second mark. Additionally there is a comment reply from one wheel stating what I just said… and the mileage threshold is TBD
Hm, turns out he's right. Onewheel just confirmed in a comment you'll need to be ORL certified. Gonna hold off on updating then, I want to know exactly what that entails
This is the most intriguing onewheel update to come from FM in a long time. Not everyone will want the haptic buzz but this safety nerd can’t wait to try it out!
#Nerds4Safety enjoy Jimmy
hope u give it a quick review Jimmy & highlight that it seems you can't disable it even if u have 2-3k miles under your belt
How many miles before we can turn it off?
so does this mean custom shaping soon?
Just you wait...
@@Onewheel this is noah bild btw, you should totally let me in on early access….
Yeah you just wait.... them capitulating to the government will give you more options LMAO
Just updated my board and haptic buzz is NOT functioning despite reaching pushback.
Thanks for the update guys!
Experienced rider here with 2k miles on an XR - I want to be able to turn off beep and haptic buzz on the GT I was just forced to update. PLEASE LET US TURN OFF HAPTIC BUZZ - we deserve a choice. Thank you.
Will this firmware update work with battery modified boards? And can it be reverted?
now they know dude! you have to send it back to them and pay a manditory $600 for a stock battery. your board will self destruct in 24 hours if you dont have a tracking number to prove youve mailed it back to FM.
if you send a modified board back for any reason they'll update it to new firmware (for "safety"), that will turn your board into a brick.
Would love to hear that Haptic Buzz occurs maybe 2mph earlier than push back so I know to slow down... without getting to the sometimes abrupt push back.
wait, so haptic buzz happens at the exact same time as pushback? wtf?? so now on top of aggressive pint pushback, i'm going to have pulsing and beeping to add to the anxiety? great.
Oh hell nah, pushback already happens like 5-6 mph before the limits of the board. Haptic buzz before pushback would be the worst thing ever.
I haven’t received the update on my Pint X, have you guys?
Love this but whats the milage minimum?
My Onewheel+ is now recommended to no longer be used and as part of your "Recall" you've given me a discount code for a mere $100 off another purchase, a nice way of saying, "Save 10% off our lowest priced OneWheel!"
Glad to have even more of a reason to do away with my board aside from the degraded battery, definitely won't be returning as a customer to a company who overprices their products.
Are there options on this? I would want it to be duty cycle or power based only, not speed based?
I have a Quart battery in my onewheel will this update end out bricking the board just like the newer versions of the pint arent battery upgradable? I've done a stupid amount of km's riding this thing and understand the limits very well but more safety is always good but I fear my board would no longer work
Does this mean the legal battle is over and custom shaping for gt is incoming?
Yes it does.
@@Onewheel congratulations
@@Onewheel I think this is a very reasonable outcome to all of this looking forward to more updates and new boards in the future !!
you mentioned a mileage minimum. what is that #? plan to buy a GT. currently have a Pint X.
how we gonna get this on pintx before custom shaping? :(
Way to go FM. You just made your flagship product the most undesirable product you sell.
Good job 👍👌
RIP to the people caught up in this gimmick
Government: You guys need to recall. There are severe oversights with--
Onewheel: Introducing a warning buzz!
Internet: Wow, you guys are amazing!
... I'm just going to hold out hope that people are less gullible to a companies PR stunts than what it looks like, and that they're just staff/generated comments
You missed a line after the first....
Gov: you need recall
Onewheel: No issue, Gov is Alarmist!!
[one year later]
Onewheel: Recall, and warning buzz
Onewheel users: I can't wait to turn off the buzz (likely making you liable for *all* injuries regardless)
Never understood why they didn't have a beeper built into the board. just some sound feedback when you're pushing too hard
a lot of cheap hoverboards had this feature back then. i was surprised when my onewheel didnt have anything like that
The buzz should have been on the doors since day one. Will the board buzz before it malfunctions and shuts off? Or will it just eject the rider like it has in the past?
How do I know if my pint x got the haptic buzz? I want to make sure it was updated with it. Thx!
How do I turn it on with the pint?
The Pint update will be released in the coming weeks. At the current moment, Onewheel GT is the only board to receive the update.
@@Onewheel cool thanks for the update
Good luck with the recalls.
Only my GT updated. Is this update for Haptic Buzz for the PintX as well?
Right now just GT, but PInt X will be in the coming weeks
Random question: Is that black box on the bench an adjustable power supply? If so, what model is it?
No thank you. I know my board and I'm good.
No wonder it took a while! The amount of engineering that must have gone into making already released boards be able to do this must have been crazy.
It's been in the works for over a year :)
Freaking congratulations! @@Onewheel
VESC is proud
They’ve also locked out the ability of any third party to connect to the board. This is a definite step backwards for the community.
Why you lie about everything? There’s no option to turn off the buzz even with 1700 miles on my GT.
DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS FIRMWARE.
Still a pretty cool update though.
fuck...
When will it come out on pint x
Which version firmware has this new Haptic Buzz feature, please?
Thanks for doing this. Only fall I ever had was a collapse on low battery but it made me afraid I would miss the pushback at high speed so I slowed way down. I think better communication from my board is … Better!
We hope it's helpful for you! Stay safe and have fun out there
Corporate plant...
Uh no… I’m not.
Where is the option to shut this bullshit off?
Has the firmware for this not been released yet, or was it included with the custom shaping update?
Yup, released in the same update
@@Onewheel but we have to wait 6 more weeks before we get the update for the XR?
Well now it's not only been released but forced you can't even tell your battery without downloading and installing this nonsense
Update not appearing when synching board to iPhone. Pls advise. Thanks.
So how do we get this feature into our board? Also is it just for the GT? What about PintX since I’ve got both?
Your firmware update will update your board. You send the firmware update to your board from the app. Open up the app, sync to your board and follow the steps to update your firmware and you should be good!

Amazing to be able to achieve that without any hardware modification !!! Great job guys ! I'm literally traumatized since my first nosedive and keep riding it close to 15mph ! I'll enjoy it better for sure
That is exactly my feeling, completely afraid to approach anything over like 12-13mph.
Me too! I haven’t ridden it faster than 11mph after seeing people with broken collarbones. Haptic feedback will definitely make me more confident to ride faster.
no shame in riding slower. imo... most of my wrecks have involved barking dogs and potholes. happy to only go 12mph.
Take it easy and have fun out there!
Damn there's a lot of injuries - seems like this should've been fixed earlier
Good work! Been wanting to brainstorm how to achieve this with the motor without impacting the motor response and ride quality for a while, stoked to see you guys achieved this 🙏
Thanks Nico!
I dont get the firmwhare update notification when connecting. I have version 2.6.23 installed. What can i do to get the update????

So is the GT custom shaping firmware updates the same as the haptic buzz update or are the different firmwares?
seems combined
I still have some learing to do for now but how does one join a Onewheel Racing League after the 1000 mile threshold?
We'll be buzzziiinn'
Thank you for adding this! When I first got my board, I thought it would be nice to have an audible beep or chime would be helpful in addition to pushback. I’m glad you guys were way ahead of me!
Well... lawsuits forced them. I don't think it was a priority until then
Already available in Europe ? I don't get the update in the OW App on Android ?
That's awesome! Great new feature!
I have a legitimate question here, I understand the use of haptic buzz and all but it turns on at 27 kms the one wheel app tells me other wise, it tells me I should be able to go 30kms on mission mode ( I have the XR model) ok buzz kicks in at 27 sure…. But then I change it to DELIRIUM mode which says I can go 32kms but the buzz never changed it still starts buzzing at 27kms. So the question is; you are making us feel the buzzing much earlier than the push back, can the Onewheel still go 32 kms like the app tells me? While buzzing???!!!! I’m so confused someone from Onewheel/futuremotion please respond
