Glad to hear everyone was safe and unharmed, besides the moose. I’m surprised someone didn’t come out and harvest the meat. Some areas will harvest the meat and help feed people in need. Thanks for the videos, Mike.
It’s getting to be that time of year when the wildlife gets moving bad. Lucky that van didn’t scoop the moose up and bring it in the cab with her through the front windshield. Seen that a few times.
Hi from oz mike. We have a huge problem with kangaroo's on our roads here just like your deer. The large animals that cause problems are cattle and horses that get out of their paddock (field) and camels in the outback.
That is crazy they hit a moose. When mosquitoes are that bad, you know you have to drive slower with high beams on and your head is on a swivel and always travel with a navigator to watch the shoulders and ditches. Moose hate mosquitoes as much as we do and they run down the middle of the road or in the ditches where there are fewer mosquitoes. They also do it in the day when there millions of horse flies attacking them. Fyi, never, ever say You hit a moose (or deer), always say a moose hit you. Insurance companies love to put blame on the driver and jack up rates, or deny a claim. If a moose hits you, there is nothing you could have done, but if you say you hit a moose, they will blame you. I am happy to hear everyone is ok. That is some traumatizing crap, they will be thinking of that for a long time.
Lucky lady. Some years ago a friend of my father hit a large dairy cow that ran into the road. Even though he was only driving at 30mph the cow's head came through the windscreen, also luckily for him, on the empty passenger side otherwise he would have been killed. The cow didn't survive and his car was destroyed.
Moose are the same size as a large cow, but their body is probably 70cm higher. So, instead of a head, the whole 400-700 kg moose will come through the windshield. Imagine the damage that will do!
Knew a guy who hit a horse. Came through the windshield and was positioned so he kept kicking the driver. Driver couldn’t get out cuz car was banged up pretty bad. Guy was in hospital for several months with injuries from the horse. Not the accident itself.
I’m glad everybody is OK man I ran over a deer that somebody in front of me hit one time that launched me into the air same kind of situation the stink of all the hair I could not get it out of the truck covered the mufflers and everything and the truck smell disgusting for months and monthsfrom everything off the exhaust all the hair and stuff
Have to be so careful at night , a friends son was coming home from the lake up by meadow lake provincial park same thing falling a mini van it missed the moose the kid didn't. The cow moose ended up facing forward on the console of his pickup. Somehow neither he or his sister were seriously hurt
Almost 10 years ago my wife and I hit a cow at 90km/h at night in a diesel smart car. Hit it square in the ribs and flipped the cow right up over the car. If we were driving anything else that night the hood would have taken out the legs and the cow would have been in our lap. We were able to walk out and greet the responding police officer. No lasting injuries just some really bad seatbelt bruising that took nearly a month to go away. Be careful out there!
hit a moose a few years ago. it was at the bottom of a creek, couldnt see no glow from the eyes. was able to slow down enough that when i hit him i stopped. he just fell on top my windshield, and kept running.
We were moose hunting in the Peace River area of Alberta. We left the area in the later morning on purpose to get back to Calgary. (We left later to avoid moose.) Nobody wins when a moose is hit. By the way, moose kills are regulated even if a person just hits in while traveling down a highway. Wildlife officers follow the regulations so the moose is usually wasted by the time a person could get the moose for eating. For the person in Australia, a moose is as big as a horse, or bigger. (My hunting friend crawls inside the animal when dressing out a moose. . . . no kidding.) Mike is correct in saying they topple over when hit and then their body ends up inside the vehicle. . . . we also lowered our speed when we left the Peace River area.
Damn deer hit me and caused 6K damage to a 6 month old car (first new purchase in 17 years) Hit front quarter at wheelwell, body swung around and smashed in front drivers door, legs dented rear door, antlers broke mirror and windshield trim, shit all along rear quarter, and it ran away. Went back at daylight, no trace of the damn thing. Moose would be scary, too big, too tall, too much weight up high. Keep them up north where they belong.
My godfather hit deere with his truck not even a 5 kilometars from his house he tore front bumper licence plate and his truck is 2 years old. On side of road is a few big pine tree and a christmas tree farm. It aparantly run from that field on road and he hit it
@@manitobafarmer Yes, I understand VHF, but what brand of the two way communication and type? Is the communication a ham radio VHF or CB VHF? What brand, like is it a Galaxy, Midland, 10 meter, 12 meter CB Galaxy Midland or President Washington or Lincoln cb radio?
I am getting a little confuzzled as to how big Moose are? I mean I have seen a Kangaroo shove in the front of a Kenworth yet.. That GMC looked like it had a shopping trolley hit it in the carpark ? So are Moose Big and Hollow and Kangaroo's just built more solidly ? I mean sure the Vans door was dislodged but its still attached and the A pillar is still.. well still holding the windscreen in place.. I have seen a Kangaroo wipe out an A-pillar on a Ford Transit? So yeah...I mean that was more blood on the road than I have seen come from any Kangaroo impact.. So Yeah are moose mostly air ?
I know you are probably kidding, but there is a reason why there are so many moose on the roads, especially when you are in the middle of nowhere. There are several reasons why moose are near the road. The main reason, fewer mosquitoes than in the middle of the bush or fields. Mosquitoes come in massive swarms, you can hardly breath and they attack ever inch, they will drive you insane before you die from them. Moose will run in the ditches or down the middle of the road to get away from the swarms. Same in the daytime, but to run away from all the horse flies. They also stay in the ditches because the vegetation, usually high in minerals, like salt. They are attracted by the vegetation, but it is also so they can easily run away from the never ending massive swarms of mosquitoes and bugs. I am sure being able to see predators like bears, and wolves is another reason.
@@jawick First, tailgating while passing is even worse, terrible driving technique with no rational reason. Secondly that doesn't add up, if passing they would have already been moving left by the time they got that close and the moose was on the right.

Glad everyone was okay!
Very happy that every one is ok and not hurt . Hope the lady is ok as well
Bullwinkle, RIP big fella.
Funny I did see those tracks in that field, I was like hmmm that must’ve been quite the ride.

Great video Mike
I'm sad for the moose 😢
Glad everyone is ok.
Their eyes do glow like deer. They never look into the light like deer tho. Hence why they are hard to see
The draft horse of the wildlife world. Fairly dull
Glad everyone is alright. You can always replace equipment, not people. That's why people have insurance.

We've hit 3 deer in our lives, and insurance has never denied our claims because we actually HIT A DEER! Their gonna raise your premiums anyway. IMHO

Swedish cars SAAB was the strongest against moose hits. My friend took a adult male moose head on in a SAAB 900 and walked away.

The wildlife dept should put reflectors on their animals that live on our land for free.

Wish we had Moose in Alabama🤣 a lot larger than White tale deer👍
hey
Salut Mike magnifique vidéo et la fourgonnette et le 4×4 est un peu acidate 😮😅😊
That intersection is always bad for moose and deer crossing
I stopped to help a guy out that hit a moose in that area two years ago....

Hey Mike! I would like to hear your opinion on stripper heads for combines. What the pro’s and cons are and if it would work in your operation.
I think we need to ask why the moose crossed the road?
Not trying to crack a joke, but the answer is to get on the other side. They travel between food and bedding areas pretty regularly
