Everyone's writing him off last year and even in the offseason saying they should trade for a bigger center they don't know he's one of the few centers who can keep chasing opponents outside the paint and contest shots.

While Coach is making some good points, this isn’t anything we haven’t heard of. With Draymond, healthy personnel who are smart and willing to play the system, Golden State has always had a great defense under Kerr’s tenure. Even if they lack the profile for it, they always try and know what the plan is. Draymond anchoring it helps too.

This reminds me a lot of the raptors coordination in 2019 and 2020, injuries and high roster turnover have made it tough to get the defense going this season. I do think the Raptors are trying to run this scheme, but I don't think the issue is as much the lack of Gasol (other than his defensive IQ and talking from the backline - he has nowhere near the mobility that Looney has)... a little bit of Ibaka, but the lack of Kawhi and Danny Green in terms of both iso skills and help skills and defensive IQ, that Draymond and Iggie have... and Wiggins and GP have in terms of their commitment on D. I gotta say though... this is frigging beautiful to watch. Everyone is on a string and on the same page on both ends of the court. Gasol's mobility certainly wasn't great in his last season with the raps but he made up for it with great IQ. Loosing Lowry as a "commander" on defence similar to Draymond has also hurt them for sure. I can't deny that it's beautiful to watch either way

I'd say Looney is pretty stable, great defender, great rebounder, great screen setter, although mediocre on offense, if you have Curry you just need to set things for him, Poole is still a bit streaky tho, he has improve alot but still alot more to do, his 3pt shooting goes up and down, although I like his aggressiveness, a bit lacking on defense but he knows what to do, Wiseman is still raw regardless of what people say, but we all know his upside of you watch warriors play with him on the floor, he gotta watch getting fouls tho and gotta rebound better he fumbles alot.

Hope this vid gives Loon some deserved shine. Lots of Dubs fans pick on him, saying he's slow, gets no stats, never leaves the ground.... those things are all true, but Loon is an amazing player for Kerr's system. He routinely gets into great defensive position due to his great BBIQ, despite being slow, is underrated with his perimeter defense (after famously getting shown up in 2016 Finals), and crucially for the Dubs, can keep the ball moving on offense as well.
His value to the Dubs has always far outweighed his salary, and that's why he is a starter on this team. The Dubs hope Wiseman can take over his position, but it won't be this year.

Dubs going back to their old mantra, "Strength in Numbers", and boy are the numbers astounding, 1st in Offensive and Defensive Rating, while also leading the league in PPG in the 3rd Quarter. This speaks to the halftime adjustments and the willingness of the team to play off each other, play for each other, and playing around each other. And once Klay comes back (even though he'll be on a minutes restriction), Dubs will be even more dangerous

The beautiful part here is that I still hear fading whispers from all those people who talked negatively about Steve Kerr's coaching ability; "because he had KD, Steph, and Klay they basically coached themselves" or how he inherited a pre-made system. Kerr has evolved into one of the best, if not the best, active coaches in the league. It's not that those guys are so good they don't need him but that he knows how to get the best out of his players. Seriously, Steph has gotten better every year under him.

Its one thing to have a defensive scheme for the game, its another for the players to be cohesive to execute it. Its as if they’ ve been doing it for years but its only been 15 games. They still have a ton more games to go and that defense will only get tighter. The most simple way to understand what the objective of their defense is simple, if the team makes most of their scores inside the paint or mid- range, they’ll take that away. They will force the bad shooters to take 3s and live with the results.
