Flywheel explosion slices through my car!

- Race 1 with the classic touring car racing club at Brands Hatch indy.
A lotus cortina had a flywheel explosion ahead of me and I got hit by the debris!
Refreshed Shrigley engine fitted and going great.
Managed to stick with the top 5 in a great battle of little vs large. Michael took the win in the dark blue Anglia deservedly after keeping the big Mustang and Cortinas at bay.

AH so YOU were the Imp behind the winning Anglia! Superb drive sir! Unfortunate flywheel explosion - lucky though! I knew a guy who lost 3 toes to a shattered flywheel in a Cortina on a rally once!

Impressive indeed considering the origins of the engine, a hand portable WW2 fire pump engine.
Yeah I hate repairing bodywork so the only option was avoidance!

Great, mature driving. There were many times being overly aggressive would have ended in disaster. Not a bad seat to be in, with the fords not giving much thought to racing.

Epic! Been round this track enough times to kmow how full on the short track is. I was on the edge of my seat again James! Some quick drivers out there. That was one flying saucer coming toward you! 🛸 Glad your 'trusty steed' took one for the team! Let it rain 🌧️ on race day is all I say, lets see them catch you then 😎🤣🤣🤣

I love racing on the old Dunlop tyres, makes it very exciting
@Jamesibbotson875 So they're cross-ply tyres as opposed to radial (which are basically standard now)? Is it the cross-ply tyres that cause/create the particular driving style (i.e what makes the cars look like they're constantly drifting!)?
Is it that cross-ply's give best cornering performance at large slip angles? Or am I completely misunderstanding something?!
@@MrSpanks yes crossply construction.
To get the best out of a crossply you need to be 4 wheel drifting in the turns

You are very forgiving, others should take plenty of photographs of their cars because they will need them when putting their jigsaw puzzle back together because their luck will run out soon with bad driving antics

@@Jamesibbotson875 Just thinking the same thing. Sitting on the inside of the corner most of the way round seems a bit odd. Go as deep as you can on the outside of the corner until you run out of road, then chuck it towards the inside kerb. Exit speed is king. Worth a try.
@@phildavenport4150 yes you’re correct, but when you have 2 or 3 cars right up your back bumper trying to find a way round you, running to the outside opens the door for them.
@@Jamesibbotson875 Well, you would be braking later than them, so by the time they get to where you were, you're not there any more. And your exit speed will be greater as well. Why not try it?

The Imp had good late braking & corner speed but needed more GGs for straight line speed.
